I've been following the stats here since Ohio started reopening. Daily comparing new cases, deaths, hospitalizations and ICU admissions to the 21 day average. Except for a couple times the 24 hour reports have stayed below the 21 day average. I'm somewhat hopeful but most of the protests here were in our state's hotspots. I guess another week before we'll learn how they affect it.

HOPEFULLY, this trend will continue...

No new coronavirus cases reported in Lake of the Ozarks partiers, health official says

There have been no new cases of the novel coronavirus among the hundreds who flouted social distancing guidelines and attended pool parties at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks over Memorial Day weekend, a state health official said this week.

ideos and photos that showed hundreds of partygoers prompted health officials in the state to express concerns that the large gatherings would lead to a surge in cases of COVID-19. Those who attended were urged to self-quarantine and get tested, while officials in St. Louis County — Lake of the Ozarks is a popular getaway for people who live in St. Louis — later issued a travel advisory.

I need to start posting our % tested positive. It's falling almost daily. (Indiana)

This is where all 50 states stand on reopening

Florida phase 2 is coming - it's a bit of joke considering the lack of social distancing during the past week with massive crowds IMO.
How can they be serious with these 'phase 2 reopening' rules, after condoning and supporting thousands of protesters chanting and screaming and marching shoulder to shoulder for hours at a time.

Controversial COVID-19 papers retracted from the Lancet, New England Medical Journal amid backlash

Controversial COVID-19 papers retracted from the Lancet, New England Medical Journal amid backlash

The influential New England Medical Journal and the Lancet have retracted controversial papers on COVID-19 treatments amid backlash.

A database by the Chicago company Surgisphere Corp. was used in an observational study of nearly 100,000 patients published on May 22 in the Lancet that tied the malaria drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to a higher risk of death in hospitalized patients with the virus.

The validity of the data, however, has been called into question. The Guardian reportedthat Surgisphere “has so far failed to adequately explain its data or methodology” and says that the company’s “handful of employees appear to include a science fiction writer and an adult-content model.”

CONTROVERSIAL HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE RESEARCH UNDER SCRUTINY AS EXPERTS RAISE 'SERIOUS SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS'

Today, three of the authors have retracted "Hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine with or without a macrolide for treatment of COVID-19: a multinational registry analysis" Read the Retraction notice and statement from The Lancet https://hubs.ly/H0r7gh50

“They were unable to complete an independent audit of the data underpinning their analysis,” said the Lancet, in a statement. “As a result, they have concluded that they ‘can no longer vouch for the veracity of the primary data sources.’ The Lancet takes issues of scientific integrity extremely seriously, and there are many outstanding questions about Surgisphere and the data that were allegedly included in this study.”

Although it wasn’t a rigorous experiment that could give definitive answers, the Lancet study had wide influence because of its size. The World Health Organization said it would temporarily stop a study of hydroxychloroquine and France stopped allowing its use in hospitals.

The WHO announced the “temporary pause” on May 25, but confirmed this week that the hydroxychloroquine trial will restart.

Anyone really interested in how the COVID19 rates will be in the areas with civil unrest? I am, especially as the protesters are outside. Wondering if that will make a difference?

I am extremely interested in this question and I think the numbers will be lower than what we might expect. It's possible that most people who were actively coughing and sneezing tended to stay home (rather than get into fights with others about their sneezing and coughing). Some people did wear masks, but not many.

California has tested about 2 million people, and found that only 121,000 were CV+. Of those, just over 4000 died. Naturally, it's symptomatic people who are more likely to get tested...

Hospitals were ready for CV patients in California and had more or less adequate PPE in many places. We are even more ready now, which may account for the low fatality rate - or perhaps it's something else. But a 3.7-4.0% per case mortality rate is on the low side, compared to other states - but not compared to Vietnam or South Korea or China.

Wuhan has now tested over 9 million people (and found no symptomatic people, but 300 asymptomatic people - I think they're going to retest every 10 days). Naturally, those CV+ are in firm quarantine in Wuhan.

Seems like covid spreads a lot easier inside than outside. Which hopefully means it won't spreads as much because of the protests.

Interesting that some people are super spreaders and some are not. So much mystery about this disease.

I WAS WRONG!!!:p

I was certain that Las Vegas was going to die a slow death....who was going to go back there, even if they reopened, I thought...

Boy was I wrong. Just saw news clips of thew long lines, waiting for 1st day of reopening. Interviews with the crowd, celebrating, happy, ready to spend...ummm...lose...money...lol

Actually it looked kind of fun...;)

Okay. Give it a few months. Then, you will see the real results. Right now, everyone in Vegas is flush with cash, getting the extra $600 a week in unemployment insurance. They haven't been anywhere, they are happy to get out and mingle.

But, the big whales, are probably not coming in. No, I think that the real results will be in August and September.

So, did these folks all take public transportation to get to their protests? That seems to be the "Super Spreader".

Pittsburgh hospital officials say coronavirus appears less potent than before

Doctors at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) said Thursday that the coronavirus appears to be declining both in virulence and infection rate.

“The virus may be changing,” Dr. Donald Yealy said Thursday during a news conference. “Some patterns suggest the potency is diminished.”

More info at link but trying to stay within 10% guidelines.
I don't know what is mutating in Pittsburgh but many other states are not seeing that. There is an increase in ICU admissions in Houston.
Med Center sees uptick in COVID-19 patients in ICUs; warns if trend continues, capacity could be exceeded in 2 weeks

No clue. Roads were blocked in many of these protests. So how did they get there?

I don't remember. Did they have a peak yet?
No, it's going up in TX. Despite TX having hot humid weather. I just think before announcing that the virus is mutating, they should actually sequence it and see if it did mutate. I don't think it's a responsible thing to do without sequencing the virus from new patients.
