Dr. Bhadelia said. “I would move it to the outdoors, I would reduce the number of people, I would introduce social distancing, and I would require everybody to wear a mask.”“

I have a question for you smart folks: So, I have been wondering about this. Today Orange County, CA reports a total of 8573 cases. That number includes 221 deaths. A total of 4091 have recovered and 290 are currently in the hospital. That leaves a balance of 4192, and my question. It seems to me that the 4192 must be people with the virus who are not hospitalized, and not counted in recovered yet. Would that be correct or is there another explanation for the 4192 who are not categorized?

Thanks.

Yes, I believe that's the case. I keep wondering what it takes to change the status to recovered. I think it's 3 negative tests over a certain period of time. Where I live, about 1/3rd of the positives who are not recovered are listed as quarantined at home.

Some may be lost to follow-up. Perhaps the remainder haven't been virus-free for long enough? I'm wondering if each area uses the same rules.

Report: 40,000 cruise ship workers still trapped at sea

...
More than 40,000 cruise ship workers are still stuck at sea because of concerns about the coronavirus.

The Miami Herald reports that at least 42,000 workers remain trapped on cruise ships without paychecks, and some still are suffering from COVID-19, three months after the industry shut down.

The US Centers for Disease Control has prohibited cruises in US waters through July 24.
Some cruise ship workers have started being repatriated to their home countries.

About 3,000 Carnival Cruise Line workers got off in Croatia earlier this month to catch rides and flights home across Europe. MSC Cruises has flown more than 1,000 Indian crew members home on charter flights from Europe and South America. Royal Caribbean also flew more than 1,200 Filipino crew members home last week from Greece, Dubai, the United States and Barbados, according to the Herald.
Several Caribbean countries haven't allowed cruise ships to dock in their ports out of concerns that they would cause spikes in the number of virus cases. Only Barbados has allowed for crew repatriation flights from its airports.
Cruise lines stopped sailing in mid-March after several high-profile outbreaks at sea. More than 600 people fell ill aboard Carnival Corp.’s Diamond Princess while it was quarantined off Japan, for example. Fourteen passengers died.

Tulsa Health Department director 'wishes' Trump rally would be postponed as local COVID cases surge

“Expressing concerns about COVID-19’s increasing spread, the Tulsa City-County Health Department’s director said he wishes the campaign rally for President Donald Trump at the BOK Center on June 20 would be pushed back to a later date.

In an interview with the Tulsa World on Saturday, Dr. Bruce Dart said Tulsa is seeing a “significant increase in our case trends” that makes a large gathering like the rally dangerous for not only attendees, but the president himself.

“I think it’s an honor for Tulsa to have a sitting president want to come and visit our community, but not during a pandemic,” said Dart. “I’m concerned about our ability to protect anyone who attends a large, indoor event, and I’m also concerned about our ability to ensure the president stays safe as well.”

State officials on Saturday reported 225 new cases of COVID-19, once again marking a new high in daily increases for both the state and Tulsa County.”

[...]

“Dart said his concern stems from a sudden spike in cases he said likely comes from a combination of factors, but not increased testing.”

Most of us have had a terrible flu etc. at some point in our lives. You get thru it. I cant imagine getting this virus and wondering hour to hour if it's going to kill me. Some start to feel better around day 7 then suddenly crash.

That is just one of the ugly thing about this nasty virus: a person can start to feel better and think they are over it and bam- it knocks them down with a vengence, and often kills.

public health officials need to do more than wish Trump would not go there- they need to mandate he cannot have the rally at this time. it is too dangerous.

our restrictions have lifted a little and we're allowed a social circle of 10
our family has way more than that so no family gatherings yet
but we did go to see my Mom today and tried to social distance sitting outside in chairs 6 ft. from each other
brought her some hand sanitizer and potato salad
but I totally forgot to wear a mask!!!
so annoyed with myself

That is unbelievable: other wordly- they need to find a place to bring these people: you can't leave them out there endlessly- it is outrageous. some remote place: somewhere for goodness sakes.

Ranking locations on a scale of 1 to 10 for contracting coronavirus, with 10 being the riskiest.

Hair salons = 6
Backyard BBQs = 5
Grocery stores, golf courses = 3
Pumping gas, walking/running, biking = 2
Restaurant takeout = 1

Other activities/locations mentioned, but these are the ones that got my attention.

These places pose the greatest risks for contracting coronavirus

Being my county, I check the OC Health site Covid stats every afternoon if I can.

Today's news flash....the Highest single day total of New Cases since start of pandemic at 304. And the 4 Highest single day totals(259, 260, 290, 304) ALL happened in the last 10 days.

Yeah, I noticed that too. A lot of these cases are in Anaheim.

I'm due for a hair cut. I think I will break out my hair cutting kit and do it myself again.

I did a pretty good job on my first try so I hope the second attempt will be even better.

Oklahoma had about 348 total deaths by June 8. Oklahoma has not quite 4 million residents.

Clearly, one reason they've fared so well is their relative isolation. Not many people have been traveling to OK recently. It's really worrying that so many potentially non-mask wearing people might head to OK on June 18-19. Keep safe, Tulsa - everyone wear PPE!

I suspect the projection for OK will change after this big event, but let's hope not by much.

It is interesting, though, how this particular event (large, lots of yelling and talking, indoors, quite a few older people) becomes another test of what we know about CoVid. There will surely be A/C because it's projected to be 97° that day. More humid than, say Phoenix or Tucson, which is good - but with that many people, they'll probably run the A/C full on for the day before and the day of. We know very little about what it's like to have a crowd that's not distanced under those particular circumstances. Las Vegas isn't having conventions yet - and they are supposed to be keeping casinos lightly stocked with humans.

Why I hate, with all of my being... wearing a mask.
Many here have questioned, "What is the problem with wearing a mask?"
I can tell you how I feel about wearing a mask.
I feel like I no longer live in the United States of America.
Within a few short months, I feel like I've been transformed from a free person, to a person living under a regime.
I hate (knowing full well the strong meaning of the word" hate.
That my world, and the people of the United States of America now have to wear a mask in order to go about their normal business.
I hate it. Hate it.
Yes. I wear the damn things. They are in my car, they are in my business, they are everywhere in my community.
I cannot believe that in such a short time, we are now doing what the Chinese people have had to do for over a decade.
I pray, for the day to come soon, that we don't have to wear masks.
I hate them, and why we are forced to wear them.
Every single time I have to put one on.
So pissed.

I don't like wearing masks either although of course I do wear them religiously. I have to remember to practice deep breathing. Otherwise I feel panicky and nauseous and dizzy

I bought some really pretty ones to make wearing them more bearable.

Bringing this post over from the Daybell/Vallow case thread... so perhaps @KonaHonu can research and have any questions here re COVID

I was someone who suggested Covid-19 should not be ruled out. I still don't think it should be ruled out but I think it is very highly unlikely.

I read this week that there was very unusual activity (Many more cars in parking lots) at Chinese hospitals last summer (June/July) that suggests something was spreading as early as then. We know from what we saw once it was acknowledged in January that it spreads everywhere and fast unless significant precautions are taken. They are also starting to re-evaluate some US deaths last summer and fall. I'm all for thinking horses and not zebras. But we are learning more and more that there likely were herds of zebras in the US last fall so I don't think it is crazy to consider coronavirus a remote possibility in both Tammy's and Alex's deaths.

(If you don't get the zebra reference it comes from the expression "when you hear beats think horses not zebras" meaning consider the simpler, more common explanation first)

KonaHonu, you may want to follow this thread as your information is perhaps misleading to folks who have not been educated and follow the science re COVID.

There has been collection of many samples all over the world to see if COVID goes back... and deaths last summer and fall in the US are NOT COVID. Fact. As to thinking that Tammy and Alex died of COVID in isolation last year in this case... nope, MOO. Not credible.

Coronavirus: Man dubbed ‘miracle child’ after Covid-19 recovery receives $1.1m hospital bill

Coronavirus: Man dubbed ‘miracle child’ after Covid-19 recovery receives $1.1m hospital bill

Danielle Zoellner

...
A Seattle man who was dubbed “the miracle child” when he recovered from the coronavirus after being the longest-hospitalised patient has now received a $1.1m bill for his lengthy stay.

Michael Flor, 70, almost died from the novel virus, but he joked his hospital bill also almost killed him after his 62-day stay rounded up to $1.1m in fees.
...
The 181-page hospital bill listed all the treatments and fees Mr Flor racked up while staying at Swedish Medical Centre in Issaquah, and the official amount owed stands at $1,122,501.04.
Fortunately for Mr Flor, he was on Medicare when entering the facility, which means a majority of the bill will be covered.

The US government could also foot portions or the entirety of the bill because Congress set aside $100bn to help hospitals and insurance companies amid the pandemic. But officials have warned this amount might not be enough, with estimates reaching $500bn in costs to treat US coronavirus patients.

I can't fathom the discussions going on within health insurance companies as to how much to raise premiums next year. How will they project next year's financial exposures due to COVID? They are going to skyrocket MOO as they pass the costs along to everyone for their premiums. MOO

Hundreds queue as shops reopen in England

Pent-up demand has prompted queues at some shops as rules are relaxed in England after a three month lockdown.

Long queues were reported outside Primark shops in London and Birmingham ahead of their 8am opening time.

The chain, which like other clothing shops has been closed since 23 March, does not offer online shopping meaning customers can only buy in the store.

All shops in England are allowed to open, although retailers have had to introduce strict safety measures.

Jaydee Darrock, from Warwickshire, was one of the first inside Primark's Birmingham store after queuing from about 07:00. She described it as "surprisingly calm".

"We thought it would be chaotic, it's not, it's quite nice," she said.

In Manchester, people waited for almost an hour for some shops. Big queues formed outside Primark,TK Maxx and Foot Locker.

Retailers are required to introduce plastic screens at the tills and floor markings to keep shoppers two metres (6ft 5ins) apart - measures that are already a regular fixture in supermarkets.

Other measures will include pleas not to touch items unless customers intend to purchase them and decontaminating shopping baskets after each use. Retailers are promising there will be plenty of sanitiser on hand for customers. Toilets will remain closed in Primark's shops but facilities in other stores, including John Lewis and Selfridges, will be open.

You see something you like, you get your size and take it to the register.
No touching every shirt in your size as you go through the selection at TJ Max.
I cringe now at the thought of using a dressing room.
