Why should I make myself uncomfortable, when so many can't even be bothered to wear a face covering to begin with. At this point, I'm watching out for my own safety.

So this would be an argument against wearing a mask in public, since these masks, if the vent is uncovered, allow unfiltered air to escape. It defeats the purpose of wearing a mask. And in San Francisco, apparently it would be against the health department's orders.

Health Department says:

As a result, these masks are not a face covering under this order and must not be used to comply with this order’s requirements,” said the health order, signed by Dr. Tomás Aragón, the health officer for San Francisco.

The vents allow unfiltered exhaled air to escape.

If you don’t cover the vents, that defeats the point of wearing a mask, which is to keep potentially infectious oral droplets from spraying outward to other people.

I’m a Critical Care Doctor. I’m Tired, I’m Mourning, I’m Bracing for More.

We’re keeping empty units available. The virus is still here.

Opinion | I’m a Critical Care Doctor. I’m Tired, I’m Mourning, I’m Bracing for More.

By Daniela J. Lamas

Dr. Lamas is a critical care doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston

June 16, 2020

Rushing into the hospital for an overnight shift, I grab my brown paper bag of personal protective equipment, swing open the door to the coronavirus intensive care unit — and stop short. The patients are gone. The halls that were cluttered just a day ago with ventilator monitors are now empty, silent.

It has been nearly three months since we reconfigured our hospital to care for the Covid-19 surge. And as our numbers fall, from more than 100 critically ill patients to fewer than 20, most of our coronavirus units are closing.

This is good news. But there is no celebration. How can there be?

I know u were asking about purchasing N95 masks. I found this company. I have no experience with them tho. I might give it a go as our Home Hardware is out now as of today. Next shipment is end of Aug. With Grand baby coming soon we want something better than the surgical masks.

Thank you tabitha. Profound, moving read. Folks tend to forget the nightmare Health Care Workers have endured and will in the days to come.

Your welcome. I have the 8210's at work. I was last fit tested in Jan. and mine changed to the 8210. It's a very snug fit and I would think it will be fine for you.

I probably didn't word my post correctly because I was not referring to people here on the CV thread, when I said people weren't complaining about the protesters.

I was referring to the optics and the msm and the tv coverage, where we saw governors and top politicians marching shoulder to shoulder.

Those same people are now bashing those who want to attend a rally in Tulsa. It seems hypocritical to me that those who took part in the marches are now screaming in opposition to one rally that is in one city, one day=== compared to a nationwide, global wide mass protest lasting months.
JMO

And let's not forget the hundreds of public health "experts" who published an open letter in support of the protests, in spite of the risk of COVID-19.

Prices seem pretty cheap but I see that a lot of products are not available.

yep you're right - I just clicked on a few - the ones we need are not available

Masks have been made mandatory on public transport in UK in the last week as people go back to work. Also some European countries too - to coincide with end of some lockdown measures in our case. (UK)

Is most of Canada out of lockdown?

no the provinces are all different and even cities within the provinces are different
not really sure what any of the rest are doing ... my city has just gone to stage 2

Man so sorry LadyL. Check on the other N95's. I didn't have time to check it all out. Go to your Home Hardware site local to you also. Call them and give them the SK # and they can look up when the next shipment is coming in.

I think Windsor and Toronto are still in Stage 1 since they are a hot spot. It could have changed today tho.

If I find any valid info I will let you know. I am tempted to ask our Health and Safety Lady where I might find them. If she doesn't take my head off. She keeps firing us emails noting folks are not wearing masks and fiddling with them etc.etc. I think she is driving around looking for us :D

Is Windsor a hot spot because of its proximity to Detroit? Or for other reasons? Just wondering since sometimes we have conferences at University of Windsor, and wonder how it will be this fall.

We have some of the vented masks as well, and they are quite comfortable to wear, especially for long stretches. I think the whole argument against them is pointless. Some home made face coverings are a single layer of cotton or knit fabric. Like that's more effective.

These empty beds remind us that the virus is still here, and if we do not stay far from one another and wear our masks and wash our hands, if we do not continue to sacrifice our desires and do these uncomfortable things, the beds will inevitably fill again.

Posting this snippet of that excellent article for emphasis.

It does seem the border City's have more cases. There are many Nurses from Windsor who work in Michigan. Border is still closed to non-essential. It's my understanding that Nurses were staying in Michigan and housed there. I cant speak to all. I do know of one Nurse who came home but lived in her driveway-trailer. Windsor/ Detroit is/was very heavily travelled.
ETA-Lots of folks in SW Ontario fly out of DTW in Michigan. So lots of travelling during those early winter months

It doesn't defeat the purpose of wearing the mask if the purpose is to protect the wearer of the mask. Valved N95 protect you just fine, they don't protect people around you. If most people around me aren't wearing masks, I have to protect myself. There is no mask order in my state. So people don't have to wear any masks at all. If I am wearing a mask that protects me, that has a purpose. And I guess Trump thinks it has another purpose. Apparently he thinks some people wear mask to demonstrate their disapproval of him. Actually I am trying to be conscientious so I put a gaiter on top of a mask. Since gaiter itself counts as facial covering, I feel that is good enough.
Trump says some Americans wear coronavirus masks 'to signal disapproval of him'

US - Officials: Masks are required in Orange county, Florida due to increasing coronavirus case numbers.

I guess I just don't understand why folks simply cant put a dang mask on. Thankfully they are not folks in full PPE for 12 hrs. with the facial marks/rashes as a reminder.

I think some people are reading false rumors on social media how masks are dangerous and so on. Then of course we have Trump saying masks are signaling disapproval of him.
