I’m really disappointed and angry that the President is going to hold this rally.
But what scares me even more is if the virus really starts ramping up again, whenever that may be, he doesn’t have a leg to stand on to advise people to shelter in place, etc.
Sadly, we are all witness to the complete loss of common sense. And, whether it's based on economic, political, or any other number of reasons, we are not going to get this horse back into the barn. Heck, we can't even find the horse anymore. IMHO this is 1918-1920 on a steroid drip. Godspeed to our healthcare workers, as they continue to face this unending storm.

Headline news in the UK today

Is the pandemic getting worse in the US?

Re Arizona, just a few weeks ago I remember my discussions here with a previous member. She was posting about few people wearing masks, and going to the hairdresser, and in another post eating out inside a restaurant with no masks two nights in a row just because she could. Dont know if anyone else recalls it.

The point is, it's not a criticism over her personal choice but for me it is frustrating to see where the complacency leads to. The point is not how low cases are, it's where they could get to.

At the end of the day, the beauty salons and restaurants were open (maybe they still are) and now 17.4% of tests are coming back positive in AZ according to this article.

Ha! He will never advise that! Remember? When cases go up it means more "testing" is being done, that's all.....

And, this isn't the only event. Next will be Texas, Florida, and North Carolina, the very states where the numbers are rising.

On Friday, Clemson announced 28 student-athletes had tested positive for COVID-19, and The Athletic's Grace Raynor is reporting 23 of them are on the football team. You read that right, 23 Clemson football players have tested positive for coronavirus, an addition to two staff members. The school has said voluntary workouts will not be shut down as a result of the outbreak.

Just resuming college sports is IMO crazy.

Given the mass events of tens of thousands of people that have been encouraged over the past few weeks, I’m not sure there are ANY political figures who actually have a leg to stand on should they want to shut things down again when things get really ugly.

However, I also sincerely doubt we will see another widespread shut down like what we saw in early spring. The average American won’t stand for it.
Yet they would stand for more cases and deaths. There once was a book... The Ugly American...

Florida, another 3800 cases over night.
And alert! It ain't about testing more.

When you live in Florida, you have to develop a stiff constitution as you watch a hurricane coming. I have had to evacuate 3 times since living here. It's a choice, its planful...but disturbing none the less.

Florida’s Covid-19 surge shows the state's reopening plan is not working

We are living in that "hurricane wait" every day now... The numbers are so high, but it is almost as if it is easier to NOT believe them.

When I think of just how hard Cuomo has had to work, and then see cowboys like Florida's governor, GEorgia's governor.

I guess I don't care about me too much... I got this isolation thing down pat... but what is this doing to all the health care workers, and all the seniors in care homes.
I just get so angry.

If they hold that convention in FL, it will be beyond denial and edging into completely delusional.

My oldest daughter lives in Florida, my youngest in Brooklyn NY. It’s been a real eye opener listening to these two and their completely different lifestyles the past 3 months and going forward.

My NYC daughter was locked down for 3 months, only leaving for food, wears a mask, caries sanitizer, etc., even to this day.

My (Orange County) Florida daughter (now living in FLL), went car shopping, traveled, apartment shopped and moved all in those 3 months, as the numbers in Florida continued to rise. Oh, she was shut in for about 2 weeks or so before it was lifted and immediately ran to get her hair and nails done. I asked if she at least wore a mask and she said no, but the stylist did.

I just can’t.

IRS is allowing people to take money out of their retirement accounts without a penalty due to the pandemic.

As always, it will be taxed upon withdrawal, but if the funds are returned within 3 years, apparently the taxes on the withdrawals will be reversed. Not sure how that works, but should be information on the IRS website. Another resource for those who lose their employment during the pandemic, or have other financial challenges, and want to consider this option.

Your FL daughter sounds like many others I'm seeing in FL (I live in a neighboring county to Orange). I'd say *maybe* half of the people wear masks...maybe, on a good day. And don't get me started on the panhandle area (Destin/Ft Walton Beach)...my hometown there still has July 4 fireworks celebration planned and people act like Covid doesn't exist. IMO

(edited for clarification)

Two further deaths in Ireland, government accelerates roadmap once again: Today's Covid-19 main points

Ireland

THE GOVERNMENT HAS brought forward the stages of the roadmap once again, announcing yesterday that the reopening of hairdressers and barbers, cinemas, and churches will be permitted to reopen from 29 June.

All three were due to reopen their doors for the first time from 20 July but with the spread of the virus remaining significantly low in Ireland, a decision was made to bring forward many elements from Stage 4 to Stage 3.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Ireland is continuing to claim lives in Ireland as two more deaths were confirmed by the Department of Health last night.

Here are today’s Covid-19 main points:

More and more, I consider doing my own business. People who survive the virus, some of them may be severely disabled, with multiple disabilities. Even those who are relatively unscathed, may have unseen medical conditions and problems that could interfere with their jobs.

Disability management may very well be a niche business that could be huge. This includes comprehensive assessment of current functioning for activities of daily living, case management for applying for disability benefits, vocational assessment for potential job restructuring.

Did the legal challenge to stop it/force distancing and mask rules fail? Just checking in.
