We are very far away from that "goal". However, this is interesting, due to our very low Covid rates, real estate sales are spiking here. People are buying houses here without even an in person showing.

This is unverified, but from friends telling me that the real estate market in Montana has never been better. Lots of sales from out of state buyers.

According to my son, it's happening in Vermont too. He said a house that had been for sale off and on for years suddenly sold.

Public Health Education is a central mission of both the Infectious Disease Center and the CDC. So yes, these people should be out front on this story.

What good does it do? It puts science front and center and gives medicine a public face. Their job is NOT to work on "critical hotspots" (that's not what they do - that's what local public health and medical doctors, nurses and others). Their entire job (and their budgets) are related to showing the American public what research does and what the CDC recommends.

Dr Fauci chose CNN because he knew they would air his interview in its entirety, not cut and paste, and that's exactly what they did.
Mission, Role and Pledge | About | CDC

Mission
CDC works 24/7 to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.

CDC increases the health security of our nation. As the nation’s health protection agency, CDC saves lives and protects people from health threats. To accomplish our mission, CDC conducts critical science and provides health information that protects our nation against expensive and dangerous health threats, and responds when these arise.

The best source is always CDCs own words, without censorship.

What overflow area?

It's not for me to say whether 9 deaths are acceptable from a gathering of 9,000. That's for the governor and mayor and OK Supreme court who made the decisions. I am just saying what the worst scenario could be. This could also be applied to all the mass gatherings in the last few weeks too. This rally had temperature screenings. The protests didn't.

The President's campaign built an outdoor stage in between the two venues. Pence and Trump were both supposed to speak (to be streamed to the indoor venues and of course, via an approved local news affiliate).

That didn't happen. The stage was built, a few hundred were waiting (I personally think they were allowed inside if they wished, but many did not want to go inside, for obvious reasons).

Then, without any known apology, the Campaign decided that Pence and Trump would *not* speak there (too few people?) and while the few hundred remaining people watched, they immediately began to dismantle that stage. It sent a clear signal to those waiting outside that their wait was over and that the promised speeches would not be happening. It was abrupt. There's video footage of it around, but it's easy to imagine.

Temperature screenings are mostly CoVid theater, of course. Unfortunately, super spreaders are the ones who are highly contagious with minor symptoms and no fever.

In the video of the waiting crowd, one could hear a woman coughing. She probably just had a cough. I felt for her, because I have a cough right now, too - so I do not go out in public whatsoever, knowing how triggering that is for my fellow citizens. But if they wanted to be effective in preventing CoVid among Trump voters, they might have considered handing out a checklist of symptoms (which I know Fauci would like to use his own public time to do - but isn't allowed) and asking people to excuse themselves if they had 2 or more symptoms. Something like that. Set a precedent for how to regain public balance.

I need to move to a utopia.

I suddenly had problems loading it w/o Java Script enabled, so maybe they have made some kimd of update recently, but with Java enabled, go to Worldometers, scroll across to "Tests/1M", and click on the little up/down arrows in the header. This will organise the list from the country most tests/M to the fewest. You probably knew that already, but just in case someone else is trying to figure it out.

Coronavirus Update (Live): 8,982,339 Cases and 468,062 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer

Yes I really like that feature that clicking in the header box of any column sorts the data based on that column. I notice that I have had the problems since they have started putting ads on the platform. But I will check out the Java Script tip TY.

Holler !!!

As I stated I pulled that from the link that was already posted. I don't need to post an additional link. Are we only posting what Trump says on here now? I must have missed the memo.

Needless to say I will point it out to you so you can find it in the link you have posted above.

"The president also referred to the false claim that masks can harm wearers, while saying that people should wear them only if they wanted to. ”You know, there was a time when people thought it was worse wearing a mask,” he said. “I let people make up their own decision.”

Click on the blue "false claim" and that is where my quote comes from.

Yes
I was only quoting what President Trump said about people wearing masks at the rally
Intentionally
I thought his words were significant in terms of where he stands on the issue

What reason would I have to go get a Covid test? I have not been sick at all this year. I live in a small, quite isolated community in Montana. There have been about five cases in our county.

So? Why would someone like me even need a test?

Perhaps you need medical tests and have to be cleared prior to entering a medical facility, or you might want to visit a friend in long term care, or you might volunteer with a community service group, or you may have kids in daycare, or your dentist may require it, or you were named in someone else's contact tracing list, or it may be required for any number of reasons.

Does this mean that 9 people dying is acceptable from a gathering that was irresponsible to hold in the first place?

Who is the winner here? Would 9,000 more tests be necessary if the rally was not held? Someone has to ultimately pay for the tests - often taxpayers, but not always.
It will likely be more than that anyway because those stats are made up by OP based on a report from one city’s testing results after a protest where the circumstances were entirely different.

  • #109
Will that whole audience need testing now? I notice he was classed as asymptomatic.
Probably. Especially the ones sitting close to the stage.
Why can't everybody just go to the doctor and get a test? Get it over and done with?

If the % are right then it is only 2-5% that have Covid so how on earth are we going to achieve this 80% herd immunity? Is it just a myth?
No, it will just take a couple of years for 70-80% to get infected.

Here is OK details so that can be used instead if needed. I used the protest % as that was a similar mass group situation, although outdoors. This link indicates between 3% and 4 % but that would be all situations. 4% would mean doubling the results in the example I worked up.

ETA out of 281k tests, 10k have CV19 of which 381 have died

Why does Fauci need permission to give interviews to begin with?

Any government employee needs permission from Public Relations and supervision prior to participating or speaking to media. Even if it nothing to do with their job.

It can be especially tricky for someone as prominent as Dr. Fauci, he really can't separate himself from his public persona and his private persona.

People are moving to red states.

That wouldn't surprise me. I felt like we are in a bubble zone here from the rest of the world.

Sorry to hear that.

At least we won't have to worry about Tulsa in a couple of weeks as hardly anyone came to a rally that was held today---or so I've been reading.

I’m not so sure about that. Hoping to see the final count of how many people were in fact there. Even if it was half of the expected numbers, that still will present a risk, especially since the rally lasted so long (almost two hours), and there was a lot of cheering, as well as no masks and distancing.

Thankfully, the numbers will hopefully be a lot better than they could have been, but this is not to say for sure that there will be no transmissions as a result, jmo.

We do know that transmissions have likely occurred via all the prior protesting, and again that was outside with masks.

Public safety, public health shouldn't be political. It should be easy to disseminate the correct information, which is based upon science, not upon feelings or economics or political party. It should be a priority to keep all people safe.

I live in a tourist area. The tourists are back, in force. A month ago, I was getting curbside meals from favorite beach restaurants in order to both feed my family and support these restaurants. I can't do that now, because last time I did, the only unoccupied spots in the parking lot were the curbside pickup spots, and I'm too afraid to eat food from the same places that the tourists area.

My favorite restaurant ever, an intimate lovely place, closed for a month even though they didn't have to and paid their people anyway, opened for curbside until they were allowed to have dine-in, didn't have dine in but sidewalk dining and were extraordinarily careful, and had to close two weeks later when an employee tested positive.

My nephew is awaiting results after his coworker became sick. He has Type 1 Diabetes.

My daughter-in-law's friend spent 8 weeks away from her children, including 6 weeks in the hospital. She is okay, but has scarring on her lungs. She's 29 and had no underlying conditions. Lest somebody jump in and say she's probably obese, she's not - I'd estimate her at 5'6", 130 pounds.

I was not able to attend the funeral of a woman I've known for 20 years, with whom I shared a hobby. She was 74. Yes, she was COVID-19 positive. I never knew her to have anything other than high blood pressure, under control.

My daughter-in-law will probably, based on bloodwork from last week, be admitted to the hospital and have labor induced on Tuesday. She will be allowed only one person in labor with her. She's frantic. She needs her mother. And she needs my son.

Yesterday's coronavirus update indicated that 21% of new cases are not locals. Did they come here for our tiny protests? Or did they come here for our beaches?

We don't know. It's not political. Coronavirus isn't political.

We also live in a tourist area and it’s ramping up to be busy and all health rules are being pushed aside for the tourist dollars. This means that we will be travelling further afield to shop for the summer to keep ourselves safe. It also means that following this two month tourist business boom....we will no longer be shopping local to keep the businesses going over the ten quiet months. We will feel no loyalty.

SBM
Younger people are being exposed because they're the ones out on the streets with their 'peaceful' protests all night, every night---even in cities that have a mandatory mask requirement for anyone out in public. They're not subject to the mandatory requirements, like everyone else. I haven't seen many elderly people on the streets all night.
No wonder the median age is dropping.

Indeed, and this is certainly something that we predicted from the beginning/knew would happen, that the “younger folks” would ultimately turn out to be the super spreaders, and that was before these protests.

The protesters were not all wearing masks. I was actually surprised at the number of them who were, but it certainly can't be said that they all were. The ones screaming into the faces of the riot police for minutes on end, while they stood there and took it, certainly weren't.

You are correct. Many were not wearing masks. Some were, which is more than we can say for the indoor rally.

Believe me I was having a heart attack during all that too, as my posts during that time indicate. What really got me was much of LE who were not wearing masks. I specifically remember a photo of the NYPD Chief kneeling in a group with no mask, as well as other LE around the country, including another Police Chief.

I think and hope we can all agree that all of these events were counterproductive to helping to slow the spread.
