Yep, our cases are going straight up. We never were over the first wave and now our second wave is blending with the first wave.

According to Worldometers:

1. Brazil - New Cases(40,131) - New Deaths(1,364)

2. U.S. - New Cases(35,193) - New Deaths(874)

3. Mexico - (4,577) - (759)

4. India - (15,612) - (468)

5. UK - (921) - (280)

Across the board reversal from the last few days. We'll have to see if it's an outlier, or an indication we're headed back up in terms of all #'s.

This will sound ridiculous, but it looks like we're in a race with Brazil for the eventual #1 spot in terms of deaths. We're at 123K, and they're at 53K, but moving up fast. Who wants it more?

I don't think there is any doubt we are going back up. We opened pretty much everything up, in the middle of the first wave. Majority of our population apparently decided that everything is back to normal and happily started doing the same things they did before covid. And here is the result.

WORCESTER – Safwat Basha walked into UMass Memorial Medical Center about three months ago concerned that he might have COVID-19.

The 41-year-old new father, who had no history of serious illness, would not emerge from the building for more than two months. He was put on a ventilator, with a breathing tube inserted in his trachea, as he battled the disease.

Tuesday, Basha walked back into UMass to thank the doctors and nurses who saved him.

“We want to thank all of them,” said Sarwat Basha, the man’s brother.

Safwat Basha is believed to be the first UMass patient admitted to intensive care with COVID-19. His road to recovery was filled with complications, one of his many doctors, Jonathan Holdorf, said Tuesday.

“It was a very long course (of treatment), said Holdorf, a lung and allergy specialist. “He would make a little progress, and then have a bunch of setbacks.”

Holdorf said Basha, like other very sick patients, left the hospital still on a ventilator bound for a rehabilitation facility, where he needed to be weaned off the device.

“Nobody at UMass had heard his voice up until today,” said Holdorf, adding it was heartwarming to get that chance.

Mayor Gallego statement on Presidential rally in Phoenix:

PHOENIX- Tomorrow, the President will be hosting a campaign rally at a private church in North Phoenix. The event was not sanctioned or permitted by the City of Phoenix, as the city does not permit political events. Furthermore, it does not abide by current CDC guidelines during COVID-19.

While I do not believe an event of this magnitude can be held safely, particularly as Arizona sees rising COVID cases, the President has decided to continue with this rally.

City officials have contacted both the church and presidential campaign staff to alert them to the city's masking policy. The goal of this policy is not to hand out citations but to educate the public on the virus and its transmission. That is why we have started a robust public outreach campaign focused on education. The city has not changed this enforcement policy for tomorrow's event. The church has indicated that they will be handing out masks to eventgoers and taking temperatures upon check-in.

We've seen tremendous compliance with the mask ordinance that went into effect this weekend. Everyone attending tomorrow's event, particularly any elected official, should set an example to residents by wearing a mask. This includes the President.

Public health is a group effort, not a partisan issue. It requires the participation of every resident and level of government.

It’s probably obvious, but just to clarify her awkward wording about the City not permitting political events. Of course she means that the City doesn’t issue permits for political events, not that the city doesn’t allow political events. I did a double take and read it twice.

That church looks like one big covid incubator to me. Bunch of young people not wearing masks-we know they can easily get infected, and presumably at least some at that group are infected. How close is Trump to all these people?

All that the church is claiming is that there is no CoVid in their building before people come in.

Well, actually the church said in the video is that people would be “safe and protected.” What that implies is that they will be safe when they enter and protected while they’re there. “Protected” is an ongoing condition IMO.

“So when you come into our auditorium, 99 per cent of Covid is gone – killed,” Mr Barnett claimed. “If it was there in the first place. So you can know when you come here you’ll be safe and protected.”

Clearly the church leaders do not understand anything about transmission, as you wrote. By saying the ionization would “protect” them, those attending could assume they don’t need to wear masks or practice social distancing. The makers of the ionizing product made it clear that the church had misunderstood what it could do, based on testing. The church revised its statement today quoted below. Did anyone attending this rally or church services read this or understand and care about the implication? Based on the absence of masks, no.

Yes, it’s common sense if churchgoers do their due diligence and consult the company website. But they are much more likely to listen to and trust their church leaders who were on television national news last night saying “So when you come into our auditorium, 99 per cent of Covid is gone – killed,” Mr Barnett claimed. “If it was there in the first place. So you can know when you come here you’ll be safe and protected.” In addition to taking this video off the website, have they contacted church members and posted signs at the church walking back their claim that they’ll be “safe and protected”? I certainly hope so! They have that responsibility. Many people need things spelled out for them.

I'd say their chance of getting it at that rally is quite excellent.

@10ofRods I don't think that I would compare Covid death rates with Vietnam and Florida. Because I don't think that we are getting the complete data. Countries may not be reporting the deaths.

Remember in February, when the smoke from crematoriums in Wuhan could be seen from space? And they stated less than 3,000 deaths.

I was specifically responding to an earlier post in which some scientists decided to include *all* of the world's data, divided by all of the world's (reported) death rate.

It *does* matter if you tell people that their chances are blended with the chances elsewhere.

It's not about Wuhan. I am not trying to remember February. I am talking about someone who gave advice here on WS, today, and IMO, tried to spin the facts with a Daily Mail article.

The deaths in Wuhan were significant, as are the ones in Beijing right. Even the satellite data doesn't support the idea that China has an out of control pandemic the way we do.

Smoke from crematoriums in many places can be seen from space, especially in densely populated parts of the world where cremation is the only form of body disposal.

Even if you multiply China's deaths by 10X or 100X, it has nothing to do with estimating live cases and chances of a specific person getting CoVid right now. If you're in the US, your chances are higher than if you lived in Canada

Nuff said.

This makes me sad. I love baseball and I want my Cubs to be safe. They won’t be now. Imagine a legend in the making like Javy Baez getting COVID and suffering permanent damage at this point in his career. Some of these athletes are an absolute joy to watch, and it’s a terrible risk to be taking. I’d rather see Javy and the others play many more seasons than to chance any of them having a ruined career.
