Which countries have done it like this? I can think maybe Oz, NZ and South Korea? But they are having some reinfections, although small at present.

Michigan was making excellent progress in getting the virus under control and reopening the economy on a carefully-timed schedule. Due to the careless and insensitive behaviors of young people and an irresponsible owner who allowed the place to exceed patron limits, Michigan's virus numbers have gone back up I hope we can get things under control again before we end up having a surge like AZ, FL, or TX.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Health officials are now reporting 85 coronavirus (COVID-19) cases linked to an outbreak at an East Lansing bar as of Saturday.

A notice was issued on Tuesday that 14 people who visited the restaurant between June 12-20 contracted the virus. The confirmed cases related to the outbreak site grew to 51 on Thursday and then 65 on Friday...

I am sure Governor Whitmer is monitoring the situation. She is the reason the cases in Michigan came under control: there are people in this state (as you know) who hate her and call her a dictator. She will do what she has to do if she sees cases rising here. I read that that situation in Lansing resulted in cases increasing in Grosse Pointe. I am also concerned about the jobbie nooner boating gathering of thousands of people this weekend. I think the governor should have shut that down before it got started.
However, i don't see younger people doing anything to help the situation. The bars and restaurants that are opened must adhere to the guidelines because if they allow
these people to squeeze next to each other by the hundreds, we will be in trouble.

From across the pond, more good trend news. Not only are hospitalizations for COVID-19 in the UK continuing to fall, the fatality rate for those who are hospitalized for COVID-19 continues to fall—from about 6% in late March/early April to around 1% now.

Ok. Cloth/public masks are not 100% hence the additional social distancing.(2m US 1m England)
Lockdown is to slow the spread again so ICU can cope, because masks and distancing do not completely reduce risk, (eyes and touching face for example).

Regarding the car analogy, the seatbelt and airbag are mainly needed because of the brakes. Otherwise you would just shoot straight thru windscreen without it. ( This happened to me many years ago before seatbelts and airbags). Brakes are needed to stop the car. So although the FB post looks clever, it is actually nonsense IMO.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide reached 10 million on Sunday while the global death toll climbed to nearly 500,000, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

If a lot of people don't develop antibodies or antibodies don't last long, how well the vaccine going to work if at all? Vaccine depends on people developing antibodies after vaccine is applied. This is one sneaky virus, I am afraid.

I think it will have to be like the flu vax and given every year, possibly slightly modified and possibly as part of the flu vax. MOO.

Anyway, I am worried for Michigan and worried that we too will see an uptick. We just opened up outside bars and restaurants last week. I will be watching closely, as we move to Phase 3 next week and opening up more, including casinos.

Coronavirus: Scotland reports no COVID-19 deaths for third day running

Scotland has reported no new deaths of people who had tested positive for coronavirus for the third day running.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who has said the country is close to achieving the "total elimination" of COVID-19, expressed "enormous relief" at the update.


It means the number of coronavirus deaths in Scotland remains at 2,482, while the number of confirmed cases has increased by eight to 18,236.

Of those who have tested positive, 4,050 have been discharged from hospital since 5 March.

There are currently 460 people in Scottish hospitals confirmed to have the disease, five of whom are in intensive care, while eight people are in intensive care with suspected coronavirus.

Florida coronavirus: State adds over 8,500 new cases to record weekend total

The state added 8,530 new cases Sunday amounting to a record weekend total of 18,115.

There have been 141,075 cases of the virus reported in Florida since the pandemic began.

The state said a total of 72,195 people got tested Saturday– adding to a record-high weekend test count. The percent positivity for new cases— the number of people who tested positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day — on Saturday was 12.4%.

The median age on Friday followed a three-day trend of 34. The median age jumped to 36 on Saturday.

Thank you for saying this Michigan went from being third in the nation (April) with number of cases and/or deaths to our current position of #12. Governor Whitmer's restrictions and guidelines seemed tedious at times, but it was worthwhile when the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths dropped significantly. Reopening the economy was carefully planned and executed with just about every type of business now opened with some limitations on capacity, social distancing, wearing masks, etc. Anywhere that DH and/or I have been in recent weeks have followed the Governor's guidelines for reopening businesses, and we have felt perfectly comfortable and safe wherever we've been: Grocery stores (Salvaggio's, Meijer, Kroger), Costco, outpatient physical therapy (me), ophthalmologist's office and optical department, hair salon, nail salon, restaurant. I have a dental appointment on Tuesday and feel certain that they will take every necessary precaution to keep patients safe. DH saw his physician on Friday and had COVID-19 test in preparation for his return to work a couple of days a week until he retires. We hope Michigan can continue on the path to full recovery of our economy and avoid an uptick in cases of the virus as the summer progresses.

“ Followers” CAN think for themselves. I wear a mask everywhere except when I’m out walking. When I’m out walking I do have a mask with me.

In a state without a mask mandate, cloth mask won't do me much good. Pretty much everybody has to be wearing them for them to be effective. But thankfully nowdays one can buy a better mask than just a cloth mask. I think even a fake KN95 is better than cloth mask, because KN95 (if it's any good) holds water and of course cotton mask just leaks water.

It's an elastomeric respirator. What is shown doesn't have proper filter cartridges (or any cartridges). So I hope you realize you have to purchase the ones for particles. Also, they all have exhalation valve, although I don't see where one is on the photo that you are showing.

The family also gives thanks to the men and women on the front lines, including first responders, nurses and doctors, calling them the true heroes of the pandemic.

Word of the tribute has spread across the state. Some families drive an hour or more to see the stirring display. The Labbes ask visitors to maintain social distancing.

But at the same time they contained this virus and showed the rest of us how to contain it, and we didn't listen and now we both have a ridiculously higher infection and death rate. Their strict lockdowns and mask wearing worked, so I imagine they're shaking their heads and tutting more than they are laughing.

Everyone has that one friend or relative who ignores sensible advice and ends up in trouble. That's us that is.

Agreed. However their government control is scary and truly not what anyone should have to cope with. They hauled people out of their homes, screaming, after door to door temperature checks, and placed them in locked facilities. One of which mysteriously collapsed when it was full of sick patients.

I would rather look to other, democratic nations like Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, to see how they’re coping with this.
