In the UK I can testify the government package of both self employment help and the furlough scheme has been a life saver. Those previously on benefits are still on benefits too.

I think most of the uptick is due to protests, proms, parties, venues not following capacity guidelines etc. That seems to be indicated by the age group of the upticks too. MOO.
His statement that someone else is not his responsibility is especially explosive. Wonder how he takes care of his family, or are they not his responsibility. You just can't fix stupid.

Texas coronavirus hospitalizations hit record highs for a full week
"Thursday marked the seventh consecutive day that Texas reported a record number of hospitalized coronavirus patients, with 2,947 people currently in hospitals being treated for COVID-19, according to data released Thursday by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
The latest seven-day average for the number of people hospitalized is 2,468. Since the beginning of June, hospitalizations have increased almost every day. There's almost twice as many people hospitalized because of the coronavirus than there was on Memorial Day."

It depends on what you consider poorly educated, but Dr. Hotze earned his MD from The University of Texas.
I don’t think it is as much political as it is self-promoting. I believe he is promoting himself and his product in a roundabout way, he can’t help himself. He lost his way somewhere during his career.

Four months into the pandemic, demand for coronavirus tests is soaring, as protests, the opening of the Texas economy and a resurgence of cases sends nervous residents searching to confirm that they’re virus-free. Problems beset almost every stage of the testing process, starting with the glitching websites and unanswered phone lines used to schedule appointments, and extending to long lags before test results come back.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. A late April report from Gov. Greg Abbott said "testing is the foundation on which the plan to open Texas is built."
But problems persist, hampering the state’s ability to slow the spread of the virus and identify people who need to isolate.
“It’s not easy at all to get a test,” said Zuniga, an educator. “This is a pandemic. It shouldn’t be, ‘Oh you have to wait two days, you have to wait four days’ for your appointment and then once you get there you have to wait another four or five hours. I’m disheartened.”
Zuniga tried to register for a test at CVS, which is providing free self-swab exams in partnership with the government, after learning she and her daughter might have been exposed to the virus. The website kept crashing and she turned instead to a local clinic.
Her daughter got a test appointment earlier this week. They sat waiting for what felt like “forever,” Zuniga says, two or three hours.
It’s not an uncommon experience.

“Have we been having an uptick? Absolutely,” said Elizabeth Perez, a spokesperson for Harris County Public Health. Testing capacity is “maxing out” every day, she said, with scheduled test slots often claimed by 9 a.m.
Experts and health officials attribute the wait times to systemic issues that have tripped up the state’s testing efforts from the get-go, including a shortage of supplies and an underfunded public health system. That’s coupled with surging demand that some health care organizations say is due to the spread of the virus, employees returning to work and more people being tested in nursing homes, prisons or before medical procedures. Plans for outdoor testing have also been foiled by weather.
In some places, the results are plain to see. Part of the state’s online test hub has been disabled, and the site says the wait time for phone calls can exceed 30 minutes because of “excessive request volume.”

Andrea Rosales, an Austin resident, waited nearly three hours in the car with her young son, who had been in contact with someone with the virus.
Officials were counting the cars and cut off the line behind her. Still, the queue moved slowly, she said. Her son became hungry. She had to use the restroom. A car in front of them broke down.
“I’m just like, “‘Oh my God, we should have [eaten] lunch or something,’ she said. “I just didn't think it was going to take that long.”
A testing location in San Patricio County, on the Gulf Coast, closed early Friday after reaching capacity in the morning.
In remote Alpine in West Texas, people queued up for four hours last weekend waiting for a state-run unit to perform tests.
And in San Antonio, a public test site was booked solid for days last week, and a registration system where people could sign up for appointments was temporarily shut down.
Galileo Gonzalez was able to get tested at a San Antonio clinic earlier this month. But the “ordeal was crazy,” he said; he had to phone the public health hotline for an appointment more than 50 times because the line kept dropping.

After nearly four months of lockdown, Ireland is almost back to normal(ish) from today. Fingers crossed it goes well...
Hairdressers, restaurants and more reopen as restrictions ease
Many of the remaining parts of the economy that were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions are reopening today.
Pubs serving food, cafés and restaurants, hotels, hairdressers and beauty salons, tourist attractions and remaining retail outlets can all resume trading.
However, they all must continue to abide by strict public health measures, including observing social distancing requirements and the wearing of protective equipment in certain circumstances.

She was diagnosed with COVID-19 in April, about a month after her symptoms — cough, congestion and extreme fatigue — began. Now, those symptoms have evolved into weeks of low-grade fever and a burning sensation under her skin.

Last week, the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also acknowledged such reports and said they are working to better understand the recovery phase of the illness.

Coronavirus: Leicester to be told it must stay in current lockdown for extra two weeks after spike in COVID-19cases
Government officials have recommended the current lockdown measures remain in force in the city of Leicester for an extra two weeks as restrictions are eased across the rest of England from this Saturday.
Leicester's mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said he received a report by email just after 1am on Monday detailing the suggestions which he said were unjustified and had been "hastily cobbled together".
He said it had left him "angry and frustrated", adding that a meeting due to take place this morning between him, the council's director of public health Ivan Browne and Whitehall officials to discuss a local surge in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, had been cancelled.
"What they are recommending is that they extend for two weeks the present level of restrictions when the rest of the country has them lifted on 4 July," he told LBC Radio.
