Considering all the video going around today of Fauci doing the same with his mask shortly after the camera was off him, I'm afraid the mask campaign may have just taken a hit with the general public. :(

Pshhh, that's nothing IMO, Gov. Cuomo never wore one for his briefings, and he was praised to the heavens for those.

I saw a Johns Hopkins scholar on TV talking about his prediction that face shields are going to become the new thing, moo.

Eta / quick reference:

“Plastic face shields offer another means of deterring COVID-19 that some might find easier, said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, in Baltimore.”

[...]

“"Face shields may supplant these masks, eventually," Adalja said. "I think there's much more evidence supporting their use.”

Could Face Shields Replace Masks in Preventing COVID-19?
We'd be wise to take our ques from those who are the most informed and taking the largest risk ... the staff caring for the infected patient.

Just think about their view of Covid-19. "The virus causes respiratory distress requiring intubation and then a ventilator to breath with a great likelihood of permanent lung damage." <- That is what they see. So they don't skimp on precautions because they sure as heck do not want it.

Thank you for thinking of us! :-)

Kali, don't know if this is what you guys applied for or if it'd be worth contacting them, but KNSD is looking for local business owners who had applied for assistance earlier on during the pandemic.

Given how much publicity and needing help to stay afloat did for Cali Comfort BBQ in Spring Valley, and all the traffic their restaurant got for to-go orders, etc. early on as a result, I wonder if some local press might do the same for you guys?

Because of what I used to do when I still lived there, I still follow most of the media people in SD and it was amazing to see how many of them were purposely going to Cali Comfort once the story first got out, even those from other stations, and they were all putting it on social media and then showing their followers getting food from there also.

I know you're up in North County, but if they got that many out to East County, maybe it'd have a similar effect for you guys?

Anyway, just a thought!

They are wearing masks and shields together, not shields alone. Many are also wearing several masks, but I don't know how they are able to breathe in more than one mask.

Neither do I. In fact, the mask must be fit well enough that you don't need to en-train room air from around the sides. Entrained room air has a higher speed and pressure to pull in viral particles.

I just bought a box of masks to keep in my car, and I found them to be worthless as protection from the virus. Ideally, I'd wear a face shield over a well fitted mask. Our eyes are so vulnerable.
What kind of masks? I bought KN95, likely not up to standards, but I think they are still better than regular cloth masks. For one, they provide a better fit. They also can be tested by several tests. I did water tests on mine and they hold water just fine. Obviously a doctor or a nurse in a hospital shouldn't wear those masks if they are not up to the standards, but I still think they are better than cloth masks regular folks are supposed to wear.

Yea, some strange claims were coming out of Europe. Like two Italian doctors claiming that covid became much weaker. Well, it doesn't seem to be becoming weaker in the US. It certainly is spreading just fine. Hospitalizations are also up, which means people are getting sick enough that they are admitted into hospitals and ICUs.

:eek::eek::eek:
oh no00
Mexico needs to shut that border
They are going from Mexico into US, so it US that would need to do something. But most of them are US citizens (per the link), so can US refuse them entry?

This article described the tests you can do on your KN95 at home.
"You’ll want to confirm that the respirator face mask you’re relying on is reliable, but it’s unlikely that you’ve got access to the laboratory-level testing equipment that OSHA uses to set their N95 quality standards. These standards can be applied to the KN95 face masks, as well, as both provide a minimum of 95% airborne particle filtration."

Do you have a source for ways to test these masks? I had no idea you could test them by pouring water into them. I have an N95 and a KN95 mask (plus several cloth masks).

ETA: Just saw your link! Thanks.

That's exactly why I'm not sold on sending kids back to school. As a parent, it's my job to protect my kids and I intend to do so. Until more research is done to fully understand the role children play in spreading the virus I think it's foolish to send kids to school. Right now, my vote if for online/distant learning. At least until we have this more under control and know what the risks are.

I don't think being weaker stops the spread any less. I just think the point is the symptoms may not be so severe with a weaker strain, so maybe not so fatal. MOO.

I bought a visor off amazon. It's dark purple in color so you can't even see what underneath it. So I can wear all kind of masks under it.
I saw one on Amazon that fit your description. Some of those shields will allow someone to hold up a bank without detection, LOL! Last week a woman at the food market was arguing with the store manager about wearing a mask. She was so nasty! I confess that I stuck my tongue at her and no one saw it behind my mask :(
