Get an annual flu jab. They are very good. Usually around October time frame, our doctor writes to us and tells us to go in to the surgery or a pharmacy. They are free in the UK to Seniors or health workers but only about £10 if you have to pay.

Why does a "jab" sound worse to me than a "shot"? :p

I apologize if I put words in your mouth. But to say he's using resources someone else may be more entitled to have comes close in my opinion. Jmo

It's really sad when you victimize people, especially the elderly, who are infected with COVID-19. And especially sad when people do so because of their politics. Did we say that Trudeau's wife took away treatment from essential workers, or Boris Johnson? Or the protesters? And if someone on here or their spouse gets infected because they take the risk to get their hair cut, or play golf, or have a backyard get together with their family, or other event that some deem as "non-essential", will we have the same victim blaming for them as well?

Prayers for Herman Cain and his family, hope to see him back on the trail soon.

It does. But the British have a stiff upper lip and we don’t. :D

While I do not agree with your comments, they are political.
Which, is not allowed on this thread. Please see beginning of thread sticky in regards to The rules, set up by the thread administrator. Thank You
I understand that. But the reality is in this circumstance, you cannot mention 1 without acknowledging the other. With the latter creating dire consequences X

Start stretching out for tomorrow so we don’t pull something or take a hip out and I’ll meet you tomorrow for happy hour. Maybe cousin @otto has some of his vodka hand sanitizer left and can join us.

We have a standing "cocktail hour" via Zoom with 5 friends on Fridays. No dancing, though! (we're all old and would probably hurt ourselves ;) )

Two reasons:
We'd rather be hit by a hand than a bullet
Shots are for drinking (mine's a sambuca, cheers!)

Florida shatters records with over 10,000 new COVID-19 cases in single day

“(Reuters) - Florida shattered records on Thursday when it reported over 10,000 new coronavirus cases, the biggest one-day increase in the state since the pandemic started, according to a Reuters tally.

Outbreaks in Texas, California, Florida and Arizona have helped the United States break records and send cases rising at rates not seen since April.

In June, Florida infections rose by 168% or over 95,000 new cases. The percent of tests coming back positive has skyrocketed to 15% from 4% at the end of May.“

Maybe no deaths?

Here we go, today's UK numbers:

89 deaths
576 new cases
252084 tests

EDIT: Just realised this is the first time we've had a two digit death rate (on a weekday) since March. Cautiously encouraging news.

McDonald's to pause U.S. reopening of dine-in services by 21 days

(Reuters) - McDonald’s Corp (MCD.N) plans to pause the reopening of its dine-in service in the United States by 21 days as the number of coronavirus cases rise in the country, according to a letter seen by Reuters.

The fast-food chain, that saw a 30% dip in global sales in the first two months of the current quarter, has been hurt by the shut down of its restaurants.

During the coronavirus-induced lockdowns, fast-food restaurants had to limit operations, leading to lower sales. Nearly 99% of McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. remain open for drive through, delivery and take-out options.

Somewhat pertinent, and pandemic related:

In order to help support Colorado restaurants during the pandemic, they are now allowed to sell alcohol to go. Previously, alcohol had to be bought at liquor stores (or grocery stores, but they were limited in how strong the alcohol could be.) When I first heard this, I thought "that's nice."

Last week, I had to run an errand to near where I used to live, which was one block away from one a restaurant which is a favorite of my friend and I. We would get lunch there and we would each have a margarita every couple of months. I asked my friend if she would like me to pick up takeout so we could have lunch together (six feet apart) on her deck. I called in our order of a chicken quesadilla and chicken enchilada. When I got there to pick it up I asked if I could get two margaritas on the rocks to go. The restaurant worker looked at my gray hair and said "sure" and added two margaritas in plastic to-go cups.

I don't believe I have ever before driven with open alcohol in the car in my life but I figured that I could point to the time on the receipt and the full cups if I got pulled over. My friend lived about twenty minutes away so the food was still warm and the margaritas were still cold. Best d**** margarita in my entire life.

Just spotted this addendum on Worldometers. Not sure what the exact numbers are, but if there's a large rise in California cases this might be why:

NOTE: California: Marine County and Lassen County have started to report prison cases on June 30 (retroactively reporting all cases). These are not included in the "Federal Prisons" reporting entity shown separately in our table and have been therefore added to California, after historical redistribution

Sounds perfect to me!
