Some people live where the virus is under control so masks are not needed,

We haven't had a new case in three weeks, and masks were just mandated in our area. Better sooner than later, doncha think?

For me, it's about observable public behavior in the time of CoVid, naturally.

It turns out that in the middle of my viewing of this event, up popped a protest. There are differences between the protest group's CoVid-related behavior and that of the people in Keystone - but really, right now, the interesting part is that now two largish-crowds are taking up all the coverage (hopefully, the president will arrive by helicopter rather than by car).

One wearing masks and one not.

There's almost no one on Times Square, nor on any Florida or California beach cam. This is pretty much it for virtual anthropology today.

Just want to record that one group is definitely wearing masks and distancing.

Laughlin casinos confirm COVID-19 employee cases; some close

LAUGHLIN, Nev. (AP) — Some hotels and casinos in Laughlin. Nevada, have closed again after employees tested positive for COVID-19, officials said.

Harrah’s Laughlin confirmed seven team members contracted the coronavirus since the site reopened on June 4.

The Avi Resort & Casino has closed its doors until July 10 after several of its employees tested positive, KTNV-TV reported. As a result of the suspension, the July 4 fireworks show will be canceled, the casino said.

The president's Coronavirus guidelines for America:

Avoid gatherings of more than 10 people
Avoid discretionary travel eg social visits

https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/03.16.20_coronavirus-guidance_8.5x11_315PM.pdf

I'm genuinely so confused about why 11 people is too many but 7500 is ok
Is that indoors or outdoors? I couldn't see that it made it clear. Everyone a couple of weeks ago said outdoors was fine. Now it is an outdoor event, it still is criticized.

Covid 19 coronavirus patients' details leaked: Investigation launched as agencies scramble

Confidential patient details of all the active Covid-19 cases in New Zealand have been leaked, including their names and dates of birth.

The massive breach of privacy contains the details of 18 confirmed cases, ranging from a 30-year-old woman in Auckland to a 70-year-old man in Canterbury.

It includes the personal details of the man in his 30s receiving care in Auckland City Hospital.

The leaked spreadsheet, seen by the Weekend Herald, also shows which border facility the Covid-positive people were staying in when they tested positive and where they were moved for quarantine.

Seriously tresir, a hoard of 7000 people from who knows where, sitting on chairs strapped together, with no social distancing, and doubtful use of masks. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm not sure who 'everyone' is? Is that the same as those mysterious 'they' who people refer to as experts?

Some people were saying that going to the beach was okay, and then, when too many people started getting sick along with all the friends they went and hung out on the beach with, government had to step in and close down beaches.
Everyone is everyone on here (when the last two Trump rallies were being held at indoor venues) who said it would be ok if it was outdoors, like the protests. Now this is outdoors, but the opinion has changed again and for some reason this outdoor event is not au fait with everyone any more, despite it being held in a county with a low CV rate.

I regret that I’m not close enough to any large firework events. Some of us are still venturing out with social distancing and masks when appropriate.

Poor guy. I have that, too. I had such a habit of passing out in formation when I was active duty that the squadron started leaving me out to save everyone the disruption. lol

I hope hubby is okay now.

Thanks, he is, but I don't think he will be doing any more singing outside in hot weather again! Maybe in the fall.

They are planning to do fire works, which is dangerous with dry weather.
It is the same date every year though and that hasn't stopped fireworks all over the country before, to my knowledge.

Oh my! anyone else see the chairs for tonight's "event" they are zip tied together. It was explained as a safety precaution. In the event folks have to leave the area quickly. I guess they see the chairs as a hazard but not the virus :eek:

Well, there is the fact they're concerned that setting off fireworks where they stopped doing them over a decade ago, due to the Extreme Fire Hazards involved, could set off a fire somewhere on or near the grounds, and cause an evacuation to be necessary. Another bonus of holding a campaign rally and fireworks show in the forest during a pandemic.

Exactly. The virus transmission is less likely outdoors than indoors, with proper social distancing. But that's not how they want to run this, do they?

When DH was in Hospital he had a roommate he described as rather arrogant. Spoke of all his accolades and Boards he sat on. Including the very Hospital he was in. He told my husband he just needed to make a call and he could get his wife in. My Husband said if your Wife gets in then mine gets in. Roommate makes the call and was emphatically denied his wife visiting. My Husband said it really irked him when our Children popped in

That's great!

From your link.

"There are currently more than 30 national emergencies in effect. Mr Trump has declared several national emergencies in his presidency, including one last year to redirect military funds to build a southern border wall to prevent illegal immigration."

I don't believe any of these have prevented fireworks for July 4th celebrations before.

Many of the seats at Trump’s speech tonight at Mount Rushmore are being ziptied together, guaranteeing no social distancing for scores of people attending the event. Source: Jim Acosta

"We won't be social distancing," says South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem of Trump's Mt. Rushmore event.

Whenever there is a high risk of fire, we don't have fireworks in those high risk areas. In our region, it happens about every 5 yrs or so.
