Have just heard on the radio that CV UK care home deaths were 20k. So that is 45%. Will post updated link once I have it.

This was reported by Reuters a couple of months ago.

Exclusive: UK coronavirus outbreak kills at least 20,000 in care homes - Reuters calculation

ITV, Standard, Mirror and Independent all reporting it now.

That would represent 45% of UK deaths. Personally I think it will be higher if they were talking 20k two months ago.

Government sued over care home deaths 'disgrace'

This is one person's story.

Coronavirus: Five-mile travel restriction in Wales to be lifted from Monday

The five-mile restriction on travel in Wales will be lifted from Monday, First Minister Mark Drakeford has announced.

Mr Drakeford said the end of the "stay local" requirement would coincide with allowing two households to form one extended household, enabling families to be reunited.

"From Monday, we will lift the requirement to stay local and introduce new changes to the rules to enable people from two separate households to join together to form one extended household," he told a news conference in Cardiff.

"These changes will be welcomed by many as they represent a further easing of the lockdown - but this doesn't mean that coronavirus has gone away.

"We all still have a responsibility to keep on doing all the things, which make a real difference to the spread of the virus.

"This means maintaining social distancing, thinking carefully about where we go and why, so together we continue to do all that we can to help to keep Wales safe."

People found travelling outside their local area without reasonable excuse have faced being fined by police.

Sorry, I was referring to those people who claim this is all a hoax and it will go away on Nov 3rd.
I think I responded to the wrong post!
Anyone who is willing to go into a crowd like that has to believe they are invincible or have super human immunity.
The stories are out there.
People who decided to knowingly go to a party without a mask and were there with a covid + relative/friend...
Sadly in one case, he is now dead.

My theory about those who claim this is all a hoax, is that they are likely poorly educated, and have never been outside of their community. They are not able to make rational conclusions based on facts. In fact, they don't seem to be able to separate facts from fiction.

I see them as child-like in their understanding of the world. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same people who would blame the medical authorities for not knowing, from the start, all the details of how CoVid manifests itself, as if scientists are born with all the facts.

Hoaxers don't understand how scientists can say one thing, and then a month later change what they are saying based on further research, or how two groups of researchers can put forward seemingly conflicting information. That throws them into confusion and they rush back to their comfortable, hoax-based understanding of the world. They don't know how learning works, because they've never had the experience. jmo

Many US states have started the process of reopening, which means larger numbers of people are venturing out to attend protests, rallies, or dine at a restaurant.

Cases of the virus are spiking across the country and the US top disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci has warned that there could be 100,000 cases a day if the appropriate actions aren't taken.

Dr Georges Benjamin, the executive director at the American Public Health Association, breaks down the risks.

Florida congressman: Spike in coronavirus cases 'obviously' an indication of increased testing

Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., pushed back on New York's decision to quarantine travelers from Florida, arguing that the Sunshine State's spike in coronavirus cases is the result of increased testing.

"I mean, the first thing is there's 200,000 tests a week that we're doing in Florida so, obviously, you're going to see a spike in the number of positive cases," Steube said during "Cavuto Live" on Saturday.

His comments came amid concerns that states like Florida reopened too quickly and were seeing a higher number of cases as a result. Vice President Mike Pence, who leads the White House's coronavirus task force, has maintained that the nation is experiencing the effects of higher testing rates, not hasty reopenings. As of Saturday, Florida has tested 1,830,791 with 7.2 percent testing positive overall. The number hospitalized has reached just over 14,000.

"The vice president had it right," Steube said. "You're seeing asymptomatic individuals between 18-35 who are testing positive. They don't have symptoms, and so that's a good thing. We don't have an elderly population, you don't have people in nursing homes because of the things that Governor Desantis has put in place to ensure our elderly population is protected unlike the type of things that you've seen in New York."

That is certainly a factor in California’s spike. But not the only one, especially since most wore masks.
Everything went bad when we opened up. Memorial weekend also really kicked things off. We are facing spread due to all those factors.

I live in Orange County and the 4th is going to be a nightmare. We have legal fireworks around here and people gather in parties to watch. I’m dreading that. I expect to see more spikes in the next month as a result.

Yep, I’m next door in SB County & work in the restaurant industry. We were open for just about a month and it amazed me how many people were dining in. Even with masks mandated again, there are still so many people not wearing them.

All but one major firework show has been cancelled but I can still see several people on social media who are basically saying “you’re not the boss of me” and are planning to have get togethers over the weekend.

Not us. We will continue to stay home. My kids have been home for going on 4 months now and have not complained once - even they understand the seriousness of it. I just really can’t wrap my mind around what is going through some people’s minds.

The initial opinion of Fauci and the Attorney general were horrendous and false. They said no need to wear masks; i believe the surgeon general said somethi

Surgeon General Urges the Public to Stop Buying Face Masks

This pernicious comment from the surgeon general sent this entire country on the wrong path-- The country has never recovered from it. I believe Dr. Fauci also said
no masks: now we know why: Political opinions in and of themselves are not
bad but many of the political opinions we are getting now are downright harmful especially when you have a president who said two days ago "this will disappear soon".
Trump didn't say the virus will disappear "soon".
"I think we're going to be very good with the coronavirus. I think that at some point that's going to sort of just disappear, I hope," Trump said in an interview with Fox Business Network.

He did say that he thinks there will be a vaccine soon.

He added, "I think we're going to have a vaccine very soon too.

Doctor breaks down impact a vaccine will have on children suffering from Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome related to COVID-19

https://twitter.com/abc27News/status/1279035002991362048

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting two additional cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children in Clark County. Both patients tested positive for COVID-19 and required hospitalization, but they have since been discharged and are recovering.

The children with the two cases in Clark County are fortunate as they are recovering from MISC, but others in different parts of the country have died from the rare disease. 8 News NOW spoke with Dr. Constantine George, an internal medicine and pediatrics doctor who says while there isn’t a known cause, many children with MISC had the virus that causes COVID-19 or came in contact with someone who did.

“As with any kinds of vaccines, that we give children or adults, we reduce the infections happening, nothing is 100%, so when you give someone a vaccination, you reduce the incidents of them coming down with an infection, so if they get it, it will be a lot milder and less severe, so we won’t have multi inflammatory syndrome that we are dealing with,” Dr. George said.

MISC creates inflammation in different body parts, and until there is a vaccine approved for COVID-19, treatment includes supportive care, and medication to treat the inflammation.

Coronavirus quarantine order for travellers entering Canada extended to Aug. 31

OTTAWA — The federal government has extended the mandatory quarantine order for most people entering Canada until the end of August to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Any travellers entering the country — by land, air or sea — will have to isolate for 14 days, whether or not they are showing any symptoms of COVID-19.

The order made under the Quarantine Act, which first came into effect in late March, was set to expire at midnight Tuesday, but will now remain in effect until Aug. 31.

It carries penalties that include six months in prison or a fine of up to $750,000, which could go up to $1 million if the person caused death or bodily harm by wilfully and recklessly breaking the rules.

Abbott: This is the ‘last, best chance’ to contain COVID-19 before shutting down again | KXAN Austin

AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Gov. Greg Abbott says right now is the last chance for people in Texas to work to contain the spread of COVID-19 before having to force the economy to shut down.

“If we do not contain this measure right now, we will lose the last, best chance to slow the coronavirus for anything short of having to shut our economy back down,” Gov. Abbott said in an interview with KTAB. “That’s the last thing we want to have happen in Texas.”

According to the Governor, rising positive cases, hospitalizations and deaths since June were behind his decision to order Texans in counties with more than 20 positive cases to wear masks.

“Our goal is to make sure that people will be able to continue to prosper while also protecting their lives,” said Abbott. “We can achieve both by having people wear face masks.

By the way TX governor at least started to do something. FL just keeps on going. No mask order, no closing of businesses, covid cases going through the roof.
On the other hand....

Texas GOP will proceed with in-person state convention in Houston this month

Despite rising concerns about the coronavirus and new pandemic restrictions from Gov. Greg Abbott, the Texas GOP's executive committee voted 40-20 on Thursday night to hold an in-person convention in Houston later this month.
And in Houston too. Where covid case are going through the roof.

Very interesting (and long) article about research into why bats seem to carry so many viruses, including corona, without becoming ill or dying.

Trump didn't say the virus will disappear "soon".

He did say that he thinks there will be a vaccine soon.

Trump says he thinks coronavirus will 'just disappear' despite rising cases

Then on 31 March, after states across the US sheltered-in-place, Mr Trump claimed that “It’s going to go away, hopefully at the end of the month. And, if not, hopefully it will be soon after that.”

As cases neared 300,000 on 3 April, with more than 7,000 deaths, president Trump again said “It is going to go away. It is going away.…I said it’s going away, and it is going away.”

Then on 29 April, as Covid-19 continued to spread, he appeared to admit that “It’s gonna go. It’s gonna leave. It’s gonna be gone. It’s going to be eradicated and – uh – it might take longer. It might be in smaller sections. It won’t be what we had”

“They’ve never shown up again (other viruses). They die, too. Like everything else, they die,” he said on 8 May. “It’s going to go away. And we’re not going to see it again, hopefully, after a period of time.”

...... on 17 June, he commented that he did not want to talk about “really good therapeutics” because coronavirus was going to “fade away”.
Less than a week later, he complained to an audience in Phoenix, Arizona, that “We did so well before the plague and we’re doing so well after the plague. It’s going away.”

All the times Trump claimed coronavirus would disappear

Some pushback on the COVID party meme. This is from the Wired site:

‘Covid Parties’ Are Not a Thing

Edited to fix grammar

Adding

"After viral story, Alabama says it hasn’t found students participating in ‘covid parties’ to see who can get sick first."

https://twitter.com/PennLive/status/1279031055694155776

The University of Alabama had known “for weeks” of rumors that Tuscaloosa County students who knew they had COVID-19 attended parties in the county, but a “thorough investigation” by the university did not identify any UA students who took part in the parties, the school said Thursday.

Tuscaloosa City Fire Chief Randy Smith told a pre-meeting of the Tuscaloosa City Council earlier this week that he confirmed rumors of students in the county attending parties while they were aware that they had COVID-19. Smith said he was able to confirm the reports through local doctors’ offices and the state
Health Department.

While Smith did not specify which students were attending so-called “COVID-19 parties,” where partygoers were allegedly trying to infect their peers for fun, UA conducted its own investigation into the rumors, the school said.

“We have been aware for weeks of the rumors about COVID parties. We conducted a thorough investigation, and although we have been unable to identify any students who may have participated in these types of activities, we will continue to follow up on any information we receive and educate our students about essential precautions,” the university said in a statement.

“Our students want a return to on-campus instruction and the extracurricular opportunities they enjoy, and we fully expect them to safeguard their personal health and safety and that of everyone at the university and in our city.”
