GA was just shy of 3,500 cases yesterday. I shouted when I read it. I was thinking it might drop for a day after the giant spike the day before. I'm truly nervous about today's numbers. I sat in the car as dh made 2 in person trips in a mask to finish up our shopping for a month. The OVERWHELMING majority of people were not entering or leaving the store with a mask on. I only saw a handful of senior citizen ages with masks on.
What are people thinking??????

https://www.newsweek.com/gop-rep-refuses-wear-mask-thrown-out-gettysburg-museum-1515302

An Ohio state representative said she was told to leave the Gettysburg Museum in Pennsylvania on Thursday after she and her husband refused to wear face masks in the building.

The Republican state lawmaker said the pair's tickets were refunded after they declined to wear the protective gear, despite the Gettsyburg Foundation website clearly warning visitors that face coverings are mandatory.

Posting on social media about the incident, Rep. Keller also called requirements to wear face masks "unconstituional" and suggested Americans were "losing their rights" amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that the GOP lawmaker had previously refused to have her temperature checked as she entered Ohio' State House of Representatives.

Unbelievable.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined guidelines for the public amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. That includes social distancing, frequent hand-washing, and wearing of a mask in public or in confined spaces.

The Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center has posted on its website, “For the health and safety of all, individuals who enter the building should wear a face covering. Face coverings are not required for children under the age of 2 or for those with medical issues.”

Thomas Macias posted he regretted attending a party. He died of coronavirus the next day - CNN

“A friend who was at the party reached out to Macias to say he had coronavirus, and he was aware of the diagnosis when he attended the gathering but didn't think he could infect anyone because he had no symptoms, Lopez said.

"Our understanding is that a gentleman had called him and said 'hey I was at the party, I knew I was positive. I didn't tell anybody,'" Lopez said.”
—————-
.....his “friend” had tested positive and thought he couldn’t spread it - but did not tell anyone until AFTERWARDS.

What if his friend had told him - do you think the guy that died would have gone?

That is a very good question: hard to speculate but it sounds like Mr. Macias really wanted to go to that party-- i am just thinking if he did not have symptoms he probably would have gone. Hard to know for sure.

Many, many actions should have been taken months ago by many, many businesses.

Yes in other parts of the US should have taken our lead. The northeast, particularly NJ, at the very least installed plexiglas and mandatory masks in grocery stores by mid-March.

Trump's Mt. Rushmore 4th of July Event Will Have No Social Distancing

This is what a coronavirus spread looks like in its preliminary stages ... chairs crammed into the same area together, inches apart for the folks who will be celebrating tonight.

The site is Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, where the Governor has proudly proclaimed there will be NO social distancing and optional masks at tonight's event with President Trump.

Private Jet with US tourists rejected at Italy’s borders

Passengers on a private jet coming from Colorado US were denied entry to the country at a customs check at Elmas airport in Cagliari, Italy.
There were about ten people aboard the plane. Five of them were in possession of American passports. The U.S. is not on the list of non- EU countries to which Italy has decided to open its borders, and the passengers were repatriated.

The remaining five passengers were from Italy, New Zealand and England. They could have stayed in Sardinia, following a mandatory quarantine for 14 days before being allowed to move freely. However, at around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, they decided to return to the U.S. with their friends, out of solidarity.

My friend's daughter mentioned that when the kids return to school in September, she will hold off sending them back till a few weeks after term begins. Wait and see what happens to the others.
Our system makes you commit to a semester or stay at home.
We dont have the option to go in a few weeks later.

Things really must be getting desperate.
There are unfortunately some people who are so hard headed and/or just don't get it / think it's a hoax, they won't comply otherwise. They asked for it, now we got it.

With a worsening pandemic, California bans singing in places of worship - ABC17NEWS

While you can still attend in-person church services in California, you can’t sing.

The state, to curb a rapidly worsening pandemic, has temporarily banned singing and chanting in places of worship.

“Practices and performances present an increased likelihood for transmission of Covid-19 through contaminated exhaled droplets and should occur through alternative methods like internet streaming,” the state’s Department of Public Health announced in an order Wednesday.

It may be disappointing to know there will be no singing, but all kinds of ordinary worship leading folks will be making pre-recorded videos. It's a great opportunity for creativity.

It seems odd to read that folks had been singing in churches. The last time we sang in churches was the first week of March. (Ontario)

I don't know what can be done, really. Unless you can prove someone tested positive and knew they were infected, it would be difficult to penalize them. In the US, anyway.

Pretty sure a couple of people in the U.K. were arrested and sentenced for claiming they had Covid and intentionally spitting on people.

Spitting in public should be banned anyway, disgusting habit

Hang on... a few examples, there are a handful more. Scumbags.

Man jailed for spitting at police officer
A 53-year-old man has been jailed for 26 weeks for spitting at a police officer after claiming he had coronavirus.

Man jailed for spitting at bus driver
A man who spat at a bus driver and told her he had Covid-19 has been jailed. [He] admitted battery and was sentenced to 17 weeks in prison.

Man jailed for spitting at nurse in A&E ward
A man who spat at a nurse while he was being treated in hospital has been sentenced to sixth months behind bars

He attended without a mask and he knew he was taking a chance.

My 84 year old daddy has FINALLY conceded!!!
He is afraid now and he isn't going to leave the house until further notice!!!
(Little party in my heart)
And... my mother in law's cancer is BACK! She is 85 and has beaten cancer 4 times, but the PET scan showed 3 new tumors on her collar bone and both lungs...
Not real sure how the doctors are gonna handle it this time.
I'm really worried about her having to go to multiple appointments for chemo/radiation etc...
The doctor kinda sounded like due to COVID, he wasn't going to do anything for her at this time because the danger of COVID is more likely to kill her before the cancer can.
Stressing a lil bit for her and my husband.

This is so undeniably irresponsible that I can't even handle it.

I am sorry you and your family are going through this. The pandemic has put so much more stress on already stressful situations. There are so many people who have serious medical conditions that cannot be treated because of this horrific virus. I wish you and your mom and dad good luck

Proudly? I really don't understand. We're not as politically vehement as America (we don't have rallies or anything like that) but I'm just at a total loss with this.

Safety - Washington, DC, Fourth of July Celebration (U.S. National Park Service)

Public Health Considerations

For any viewing location, the public is asked to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases by following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for events and public gatherings:

It’s sad. We should have taken Canada’s lead and cancel these events and come up with something fun and entertaining online or to broadcast on TV.

Now those from other countries can understand why some in our population won’t wear masks or socially distance.
