Interesting, although the Chronicle of Higher Education reports that 62% of colleges and universities in the U.S. plan to reopen for the fall semester. That is the plan in Ohio. Students and parents are saying that they won't pay full tuition for online learning for another semester. So this is driving the reopening. We are having a virtual faculty senate meeting this week to discuss the reopening on our campus. Because I am in a high-risk group as defined by the CDC and ADA, I am able to work remotely. But that won't be an option for most people, and they are concerned.

I did not accuse POTUS of lying. I’m not going to repeat my point. We will have to agree to disagree in how we analyze his use of statistics in a political speech. JMO
This is where the 40 million comes from. He confirms in a Tweet it is from tests. This is the live Guardian link from yesterday.

Donald Trump is charged up ahead of tonight’s Salute to America if the blur of activity on his Twitter feed is any indicator. The US president has fired off no fewer than 55 tweets or retweets since noon today, including a message of congratulations from Indian prime minister Narendra Modi so nice he retweeted it twice.

The alarming nationwide trends around the coronavirus pandemic, which barely warranted a mention during Friday night’s Mount Rushmore speech, have not been Trump’s preferred subject these days. But he’s chosen to address it head on in the hours before tonight’s extravaganza, repeating the debunked claim that increased testing is responsible for the spike in cases.

“Cases, Cases, Cases! If we didn’t test so much and so successfully, we would have very few cases. If you test 40,000,000 people, you are going to have many cases that, without the testing (like other countries), would not show up every night on the Fake Evening News,” Trump wrote. “In a certain way, our tremendous Testing success gives the Fake News Media all they want, CASES. In the meantime, Deaths and the all important Mortality Rate goes down. You don’t hear about that from the Fake News, and you never will. Anybody need any Ventilators???”

Politifact, a Pulitzer prize-winning fact-checking organization, punctured this fallacy last month, but it hasn’t prevented Trump from trotting it out with bold regularity.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, Trump campaign official and girlfriend of president's son, tests positive for coronavirus

“Kimberly Guilfoyle, a senior Trump campaign official and Donald Trump Jr.'s girlfriend, tested positive for coronavirus while in South Dakota on Friday, according to a person familiar with the situation.”

Just wondering....
Was she tested prior to leaving and received her diagnosis in South Dakota?
Or was she tested after she got there?
If she was asymptomatic, why was she tested?
Did she take a commercial flight?

OK, I'm probably going to sound like a Pollyanna even though I don't mean to. I'm 78, live alone and have several health conditions so maybe I do know where people are coming from.

There is no need to be depressed, the world is an interesting place even though right now we can't go running around in it. Get on YouTube and watch movies, documentaries, all sorts of interesting things on there. You can even learn to knit, crochet, cook, probably tat if you want to. There is no need to let your brain atrophy, use it, enjoy.

Take a look out the window in the morning and see the beautiful sunrise/sunset. Read the Bible, marvel at the beautiful world God has given us. Pray.

You can read a book, write a book, call up for take out, get a bowl of fish, a canary. The possibilities are endless.

Learn to sew, work on a photo album, write your memories of this virus and everything else that's going on in the world. Who knows, in a hundered years someone might find your writings and learn something from them.

Take this time to work on yourself, do not sit around contemplating your naval, be glad you've still got one.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but there is sooooo much to do at home, to learn about in this world. If push comes to shove, you pick up the phone and cheer up someone else.

lol, you are preaching to the choir. Every.single.day. I take a bouquet of flowers to my 130+ neighbors, I started a FB garden club for the neighborhood, every single day I reach out to someone less fortunate to me... I have given flowers every day to brighten up others since March 1st. I pick them and I call others.

I am doing it. I get up every day and cut flowers, put in a vase, and walk the hood to meet or just drop off at doorstep. I am really a big garderner with cut flowers to share which is the ONE thing that gives me joy.

Just saying...

I am doing it, every single thing you stated dear, and still very very depressed.

Even though folks help me, shop for me, talk with me...etc.

But thanks for the pointers...your support

I have no idea what this post is saying about 100% positivity and it's meaning at United States Coronavirus: 2,952,171 Cases and 132,378 Deaths - Worldometer I don't see where this is said. And even if so, it would show veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy bad testing, tracing etc. But could be a build up and processing issue over the weekend.

Again, have no idea where the 100% came from as no link to such.

I'm outta here again for a while... back to other WS cases.
I think it was from the JHU link I posted that OP was responding to. I don't know why they didnt quote me to help with the flow.

@tresir2012 posted the link a few pages back - it looks legit enough, I'll see if I can find it. Here it is:

Which U.S. States Meet Recommended Positivity Levels?

I hate reposting a link with an obvious error in it - and as I said, someone should have caught it, but I'm completely over the part of this where I personally try to find who is responsible and email them.

Seriously! When it comes down to it, certain retrofits might be quite cost-effective in the long run. But it's more tempting to have a young, desperate TA do it all for peanuts (and no health insurance).

Yeah, well, I wouldn't pay high private tuition for that. Maybe that's why the state university system is seeing all its classes filling up for Fall.

For the profs, it's not just the classroom space, it's the ventilation and the buildings themselves. The ventilation issue is huge, especially in places that get hot enough to need A/C or cold enough to need heat. We have public health recommendations where I teach that when the classroom gets over 85° we have to start warning medically vulnerable people about heat issues and when it's 90° we are supposed to give alternate assignments and suspend the ongoing class, because that's when some students start having symptoms/passing out. Naturally, it's only a tiny number, but it's still a big deal for the school.

Some of us feel uncomfortable being in the undistanced masses that are passing time at a university (even though outdoors, there's still some small risk).

But it's the classroom itself that's the issue. At many places, really large lecture classes are divided over 2-3 auditorium style rooms as it is, with two rooms seeing the prof on the screen, and a TA in the other rooms to manage behavior and launch questions at the prof. But even if that delivery method is used for way fewer students, the number of classes that *must* be real world would take over those spaces quickly. Try teaching nursing without real world meetings. Or dentistry. Or dental hygiene. Or...respiratory tech.

CPR cert renewals? How do we do them? Phlebotomy certificates? How? It's all just too much.

If we had really fast testing, the Big Expensive Universities could surely work something out (but that doesn't seem to be on the horizon, even for well endowed places like Harvard and Stanford).

Problems in Israel

Deputy health minister: 2nd wave worse than 1st, mass gatherings must stop

Deputy Health Minister Yoav Kisch on Sunday warned that the second wave of coronavirus infections was worse than the first outbreak and that mass gatherings must be stopped to slow the rate of infection and perhaps prevent a future full lockdown.

“We’re facing a long war of attrition,” he told a Knesset panel dedicated to the pandemic response. “We are in the second wave [of the pandemic] and it’s worse than the first — we must bring back restrictions.”

“We’ve doubled the number of sick in 10 days. There is a larger number of new serious cases. The infections are spreading all over the country,” Kisch said.

Ah beautiful Dixie.

Very very depressed is way different than occupying myself with distractions.
Yesterday morning I made a miniature corn broom for a garden knome.
Yep keeping busy!

@ Dixie,
Hang in there Baby!

eh I work for a commercial glazing company that has a contract with a state university and corresponding hospital. We’ve done so many partitions and barriers in the past few months. It’s not exceptionally cost prohibitive. Especially since it’s common for schools to have existing contracts like this in place already.

England has reopened its doors to pubs and restaurants -- on what they're calling "Super Saturday" -- but the government's warnings/threats seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

Check out the scene in the SoHo district of London, where an insane number of people broke loose Saturday from their flats and hit the streets and bars. There's zero social distancing and masks are few and far between.

Here's the thing ... the UK has banned gatherings of more than 6 people and there's a strong recommendation that people stay 2-meters apart. Clearly not the case.

Pubs closed back in March due to the virus and the lockdown. The government has warned if people don't follow the rules the pubs will be the first to get shut down again.

Europe has 280,000 confirmed COVID19 cases and 44,000 deaths.

The government has also allowed hair salons, outdoor gyms, playgrounds, hotels, movie theaters, museums and libraries to reopen.

Looks a lot like America.

LIVE: Coronavirus cases surge in Saudi, UAE after curfews lifted

15:30 GMT - Kazakhstan imposes 'second wave' of restrictions as coronavirus surges
Kazakhstan on Sunday imposed a second round of nationwide restrictions to counter a huge surge in coronavirus cases.

Shopping centres, gyms, swimming pools, hairdressers and beauty salons have all closed down for the next two weeks, a measure that authorities may choose to extend.

Kazakhstan imposed a strict lockdown in late March that saw important sectors of the economy grind to a halt and prevented most travel.

But it was one of the first Central Asian countries to lift restrictions in late May, when it had less than 9,000 confirmed cases.

Since then however, coronavirus cases have risen more than five-fold, reaching over 47,000 with 188 fatalities.

Your post gave me another idea, something to DO. We're having somewhat of a drought where I live and I know little critters are suffering. Therefore, I'm headed out the door to put a footed bowl of water out for the birds and a pan of water for the other critters. I am NOT, however, putting it close to my garden, LOL. This AM I saw tiny birds in the garden with me drinking the water off my freshly watered plants.

We need to concentrate on others, and when we do, we forget about our own discomforts. This is good for me as well as ideas for others. We can ALL help others, human or otherwise through these hard times.

Good for you. Have you reached out to your Dr? I would urge you to. There is no shame in needing a little extra help along the way. Awesome how you are reaching out to others.

I wonder what it says about priorities when countries and states open bars/pubs before schools.

14:00 GMT - Greece shuts border to Serbians after virus spike
Greece announced on Sunday the closure of its frontier for Serbian nationals until July 15 because of a coronavirus spike.

Serbia declared a state of emergency on Friday in the capital Belgrade because of the highest rise of coronavirus cases since April.

Greece had made its decision after analysing the epidemiological data, said government spokeswoman Aristotelia Peloni.
