Yes or work from home or do separate days from each other or have plexiglas cubicles.

I’ve seen more than one news story saying that ‘open offices’ are going to have to majorly rethink these cool bullpens and return to individual separators. I think the open office trend is hideous and I can’t stay focused for more than 10 minutes in one; but considering how much cheaper they are I have my doubts.

Also colloquially, a lot of NYC employees on SM claiming their employers have told them not to count on being in-office until 2021; and Jack Dorsey famously saying that as far as he is concerned the entirety of Twitter can work from home in perpetuity.

Oh boy...

200,000 were at the 1918 Philly Parade. :(

(eta: every time I type “1918 Philly Parade” you have to drink)
Kool-aid or alcohol? I have concerns here, I do.

I saw that. I feel so bad for the state in general. But, IMO somedown there should be ashamed of themselves. Are these numbers all young people going to beaches and bars, etc.
IMO-It really is getting bad here again though. However, most of the cases I think are in the bigger counties.
Our governor really does think we are doing o.k. though. She doesn't understand that our numbers of 400-600+ plus per day are our bad numbers. IMO-she thinks we need to be 1,000+ per day. I looked back and our highest number was in the high 700's when we had the Tyson outbreak and we had 22 deaths one day. If Iowa had 1,000-3,000 cases per day the people of Iowa in general would not be very happy with her (some aren't now). Again all IMO. I guess I would expect states like Florida, California, and Texas to have higher numbers because of a larger population.Still, over 10,000 is nowhere near what I think should be your high numbers. What was your smallest numeber if you remember? Iowa was less than 10 daily in March up to less than 100.
We live in a small university town, and 30,000 students will be returning to live and shop and drink and party in this town in August. Will try to stock up before they get here and continue to isolate as much as possible.

colleges?? Such mystery ahead.

This is disappointing.

WHO halts hydroxychloroquine, HIV drugs in COVID trials after failure to reduce death

GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Saturday that it was discontinuing its trials of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and combination HIV drug lopinavir/ritonavir in hospitalised patients with COVID-19 after they failed to reduce mortality.

The setback came as the WHO also reported more than 200,000 new cases globally of the disease for the first time in a single day. The United States accounted for 53,213 of the total 212,326 new cases recorded on Friday, the WHO said.

“These interim trial results show that hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir produce little or no reduction in the mortality of hospitalised COVID-19 patients when compared to standard of care. Solidarity trial investigators will interrupt the trials with immediate effect,” the WHO said in a statement, referring to large multicountry trials that the agency is leading.

It looks like the Remdesivir trial is continuing. MOO

Imo the best thing we can do for our country today is stay home. That is real patriotism, protecting our country and the people in it.

Eta: And having respect for our health workers and emergency responders.

I will say this much, that trying to accomplish tasks, that require spoken communication, when both parties are wearing masks, and also have a barrier wall of plexiglass is a comedy of errors.

Quantified based on the respective ages of each individual.

Today is such an important day in the big scheme of things, as is every day, but specifically wrt to the potential for superspreading events relating to the holiday. We have seen the effects of Memorial Day.
I'm dreading tonight. One of my greyhounds is terrified of fireworks. She curls up in a ball in the corner and just pants and shakes until it's over. I feel so bad for her on New Years and July 4th.

I couldn't go out to celebrate/see fireworks even if I wanted to.

Same deal here. I think many doggies will have a rough night. Mine was hiding last night due to fireworks.

Re: this upcoming potential super spreading event, I personally might have to resort to intravenous elephant tranquilizer.

300,000 people?!! That’s more than the Philly Parade of 1918!

Have you seen the thunder shirts? I used one on my late Redbone hound dog. She did the same thing.

@tresir2012 sorry I missed your post earlier asking if it will feel weird to come out of lockdown.

Honestly, not a lot will change for me. I've been working from home since March and that will continue longer term. Mr HKP is a key worker and has worked throughout. I cut and coloured my own hair and like the £150 saving! There is a local pub in the village opening today but with Mr HKP's shifts we rarely go out in the evenings anyway. I shop online for clothes etc.

I suppose I'm quite the home bird! Happy here with my little dog and no long commute but do miss the office socialising and nice coffees.

Work wise, lots to do. Bringing catering staff off furlough part time. Not easy, stressful actually.

V selfishly, I hope the supermarket delivery slots are more available again. I went out for my once a week outing today, Waitrose woo hoo. I hate it! I'm one of the only mask wearers. Today a man in his 70s was walking around, coughing, not even trying to cover his mouth.

Sorry this all sounds a bit miserable. I'm not feeling miserable! I'm just trying to get my head round the fact that this is my new normal. I need to make a plan, so that I can I can get healthier and also somehow not feel isolated.

Generally tho, I'm glad things are starting to loosen up a bit just hopefully people can be trusted. My parents need to emerge soon and I want it to be as safe as poss for them.

DH and I, being old, have been staying home for Independence Day for years. We are content to watch events and fireworks on TV. :D

Thankfully, my neighborhood generally stays pretty quiet on the 4th.

This patriot is stocking her new freezer today thanks to Walmart and Kroger pickup. After supper we'll watch the fireworks from our deck since all surrounding neighbors are setting them off again tonight.

This post lands at random.

It is a violation of TOS to post off topic. Political and other off topic posts have been removed and serious TOs are being issued for those who derail the thread with such posts.

WS does not have a staff of hundreds to deal with all the Reports of TOS violations, not to mention it is very discourteous to members and guests who come here to read about the virus.

Stay on topic or there will be a loss of posting privileges.

'We need to live with it': White House readies new message for the nation on coronavirus

We just need to learn how to "live with it". Unless you die. Great message.
Right, when you take Grandma to the hospital because she can't breath, because you infected her, the hospital tells you they're full and you'll all just have to learn to live with it. And doctors and nurses should refuse to work overtime anymore, and should tell their patients in ICU to just learn to live with it.

Occasionally I forget that it’s only in NYC that I’ve seen banks with huge walls of Plexiglas for each teller. Then I go upstate to my folks’ and there are zero barriers.

similarly, one has to practically go south of 96th Street in Manhattan to visit a liquor store where you can actually hear what a clerk is saying to you because ditto.
