I'm thinking that MOST vulnerable people, especially here in the USA, sat out the weekend celebrations for our Independence day yesterday.
We certainly did.
Cases will definitely keep spiking as we expand testing.
The big question for me, is, will deaths?
Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend.
P.S. I am very appreciative for how much my mate and I love and like each other.
I cannot even imagine going through all of this without a patient, loving partner.
I will always feel horrible for those that have had to go through this without.

I hope not. Of course we are all scared about the deaths but I’m very scared of the hospitalizations too.

I am terrified of the ICU. And being damaged permanently. Many of the things I love best (other than my human family) my animals, hiking, biking, running, home improvement, would be denied to me. I’m actually allergic to animals but cope with it. But if my lungs were damaged I couldn’t live with my babies. And I couldn’t exercise. Frankly I wouldn’t want to live that way.

And after he seemed to be recovering, too. He just suddenly went down hill.

Well, they said yesterday he was getting on the lung transplant list.

The whole course of his illness seems very rough and I so feel for his wife. He did seem to have survived the prior surgeries and the ventilator...but, I think he's been listed in grave condition for a while. Poor guy.

Aww he fought so hard too. His poor wife and baby. This has honestly saddened me X

But, don't you know that that 99% of coronavirus cases in America are "totally harmless." Quotation: Donald Trump

I see life as we knew it changing toward technology before our very eyes, brought along by COVID-19. It's going to affect a ton of jobs. Many restaurants will close, especially fine dining, most likely many boutique type stores will disappear, more grocery shopping online, fewer gyms, more Amazon. I wonder about church and bar attendance. (Friends of mine really like online church services.) Major league sports and college sports? And, most of all, schools. (Many parents are now concerned with regular school days.)

I couldn't agree more. Grocery stores are going to change (why have an outside Instacart if you can keep the money inside - and why have a regular grocery store at all - have just one per larger region).

It's all going to be automated, big box stores and gig economy deliveries. Those people upset that their job at X business is gone already have a lot of new opportunities - there are jobs being advertised, just not at a restaurant, instead loading trucks at Amazon.

Or picking fruit and veg. Or packing meat. Or training to draw blood. Our local hospitals are all hiring and pay for the 3 day training...

Well, here we go. Our state of Victoria is going to close its borders and self contain. Its new covid cases crept into the 3 digits yesterday. Seems small to others maybe, but for us it is not acceptable.

The Victoria Premier, the NSW Premier (the only state who has left their border open to Victoria), and our Prime Minister have conferred and agreed that this is the best course of action at this point in time.

Not small, seems very much the right course of action. Good for Victoria and good for the whole.

I don't see the relevance as we accept reports coming out of China. Turkey is a US ally, also part of NATO and hosts a USAF base, so they are trusted in that regard. The initial speaker in the article is the Acting Turkish WHO head also.

Then here's another A/C article for you:

Europe PMC

I'm still compiling.

I am happy to hear this - about the 9 residential towers in Victoria that have been completely locked down - the counselling services are going in there now. I was wondering how any non-prescription drug users might be faring.

Mr Andrews said public health teams would begin going door-to-door to test every person, and he was confident all residents would be willing to comply.
He said work had been going on throughout the night to organise food, medical support, drug and alcohol support, family violence support and other essential services.

Broadway Star Nick Cordero Dies

Over the course of 13 weeks, the Tony Award-nominated star woke up from a medically-induced coma and underwent a leg amputation due to COVID-19 complications.

Broadway star Nick Cordero has died after a months-long battle with the coronavirus. He was 41.

He is survived by his wife Amanda Kloots, whom he wed in September 2017, and their 1-year-old son Elvis Eduardo.

"God has another angel in heaven now. My darling husband passed away this morning. He was surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth. ⠀ I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him. Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone’s friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk. He was an incredible actor and musician. He loved his family and loved being a father and husband. Elvis and I will miss him in everything we do, everyday," she wrote on Instagram Sunday.

"To Nicks extraordinary doctor, Dr. David Ng, you were my positive doctor! There are not many doctors like you. Kind, smart, compassionate, assertive and always eager to listen to my crazy ideas or call yet another doctor for me for a second opinion. You’re a diamond in the rough," Kloots continued.

"I cannot begin to thank everyone enough for the outpour of love , support and help we’ve received these last 95 days. You have no idea how much you lifted my spirits at 3pm everyday as the world sang Nicks song, Live Your Life. We sang it to him today, holding his hands. As I sang the last line to him, 'they'll give you hell but don’t you light them kill your light not without a fight. Live your life,' I smiled because he definitely put up a fight. I will love you forever and always my sweet man," she concluded.

I just saw this horrible news: he was so young-- he fought so hard--- it is so sad and tragic- rest in peace

What is so astounding is that he was a perfectly healthy 41 year old man-- this is truly a tragedy. I was shocked when I saw that headline.

To clarify my last post.
It's not rainbows and unicorns over here.
Nor is my husband and myself singing kumbaya.
FAR from it!
We are each, very much on edge.
Which can quickly escalate.
Most of that has to deal with our business.
We try to be good to each other.
Making coffee, meals, cleaning and giving each other space.
It's not nirvana by any means.
It takes effort and keeping one's mouth shut, and understanding.
Just thought I'd clear that up in case you all thought we were dancing our way through this frigging pandemic.

Mayor Kate Gallego of Phoenix said on Sunday that with cases and death counts soaring in Arizona, testing sites in her city and surrounding Maricopa County are overwhelmed, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency has rebuffed her pleas for help.

She raised the issue on the ABC program “This Week,” saying that it “feels like they’re declaring victory while we’re in crisis mode.”

An aide to the mayor said that FEMA had responded to the city’s most recent request by saying the agency was “getting out of the testing business.” Maricopa County officials were told the same thing when they asked FEMA for help, the mayor said.

Unbelievable. Poor Arizona. And any other state who has yet to experience its first surge.

<modsnip: quoted post was removed>

I need to say this because it bothers me every time I see it. The continued stressing of "they would have died in 5 or 6 months anyway" strikes *me* as flippant and callous. Well, maybe they would have died peacefully in their sleep, but instead they died a horrible death, ventilator or no. <modsnip: quoted post was removed>

My mother is almost 94. And while we have a very rocky relationship, I'd just as soon she not die from Covid19.

Thanks for listening. :)

My brother told me when they first closed all businesses in April that it was the wrong move. He said ‘when it’s your time, it’s your time’. I did not agree with that at all and still don’t. Who wants to watch a loved one suffer in ICU and if they recover have damaged lungs forever? My brother is a mean person.

Smh. It's a slow motion trainwreck. And my state is #3.

Soaring U.S. coronavirus cases, hospitalizations overshadow July 4 celebrations

In addition to rising cases, an alarming percentage of tests are coming back positive. The World Health Organization considers a positivity rate above 5% to be cause for concern because it suggests there are more cases in the community that have yet to be uncovered.

Ten states averaged double-digit positivity rates over the past week – Arizona (26%), Florida (18%), South Carolina (17%), Nevada (14%), Alabama (14%), Texas (14%), Mississippi (13%), Georgia (13%), Idaho (11%) and Kansas (10%), according to The COVID Tracking Project here a volunteer-run effort to track the outbreak.

You have a great question there. The grocery store clerks say they are "happy" to "still have a job." But are they? And what happens when the smaller stores start closing? What happens if CoVid wipes out everything but professional instacart shoppers and check-out people (all in hazard suits and with hazard pay)?

We are in together for sure - because everyone who eats food has to now pay for those people to provide it. Somehow. By doing something. That's how the economy works.

But to risk the grocery chain's health merely to get people back into hair salons? Really?

You think we who are locked in our houses are lucky? Then I am going to say that you, too, can work from home - it's a thing and there are jobs, if you think that's right for you.

I do not feel lucky AT ALL to not see my family, I miss my students, I wish I could go to the doctor IRL, and I'm not a happy camper staying home.

Long term, all of us who still have jobs will feel lucky - whether public-facing or not. And trust me, most jobs do not face the public. The vast majority of jobs are not retail or grocery store work or restaurants.

I hope his death is a wake-up call to those who deny COVID-19 is a problem. WEAR A MASK, PEOPLE!

I seriously don't get what is going on. Well, I do, but I hate to see it. Everyone is now being left to combat this pandemic on their own by the agencies who are funded by their taxes.

"Fatalities are a small percentage of cases"
"We're going to tell you about treatment drug studies soon"
"We are not going to assist overwhelmed areas with testing"
"Get used to it"

I remember clearly when we all became aware of this virus, we were
tolddont wear a mask, they wont help--so for at least a month until we were
told otherwise, we didnt wear a mask-- we went grocery shopping a couple times a week with no mask-- we are grateful we didnt get the virus---as i recall, early on, we were
not advised to social distance either.my husband and i are in our 70's---
