This is the reason that Colorado keeps having public fireworks despite our dry as dust summers. It professionally siphons off at least some of the enthusiasm for things that go "boom." I like fireworks, but I am very glad that I don't have any noise phobic dogs right now.

West Texas doctor claims to have “silver bullet” for COVID-19

He claims a 100% success rate so far. This is interesting to me as I have a family member with asthma.

"ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - A West Texas Doctor claims he’s found the “silver bullet” for COVID-19, but the treatment is not currently approved by the FDA.

Dr. Richard Bartlett works at various clinics around West Texas, and says he’s found a successful treatment for the coronavirus.

“The treatment plan is inhaled, generic budesonide,” Bartlett said. “Using some generic antibiotics to protect from a secondary bacterial infection. Using zinc, which interferes with virus replication. It’s common sense. It’s intuitive.”

Budesonide is a steroid, that can be inhaled directly to the lungs using a nebulizer.

The drug has been used for decades to treat asthma and is approved by the FDA. However using it to treat COVID-19 is not.

“I am not aware of any doctors anywhere that are using this specifically for COVID-19, yet,” Bartlett said.

Bartlett said he treats people as soon as they show symptoms.

“Early treatment is better with this disease,” he said. “And I’m having a 100% survival rate. I don’t even know how many I’ve treated...dozens. I have 14 that I’m treating right now.”

Third day in a row without new COVID-19 cases in Latvia

June 23, 2020

Latvia recorded no new cases of COVID-19 on June 23 for the third day in a row, the total number of cases remaining at 1,111 on Tuesday.

No further fatalities were recorded either, with the death toll remaining on 30.

The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said 1,413 tests had been conducted during the previous 24-hour period.

In total 140,437 tests have been carried out since February 29.

So far 903 patients have recovered.

Nine patients are in hospital, most of whom have moderate symptoms of the disease but one of whom is designated as being in a serious condition.

This news means Pfizer and its partner, German company BioNTech, are still on track to produce 100 million doses of a coronavirus vaccine in 2020, according to Dormitzer.

"The goal that we've set is to distribute millions of vaccine doses in 2020 and executing on that, of course, means everything has to go well," he said. "We need the regulatory approval to do so. But that is our plan."

Good article. I know some of us are not surprised at this. It was hypocritical to back these, which have continued for weeks and then expect others to stay indoors IMO. I don't know if tests will reveal much as we know travel was from other states for some of these events. If some of the upticks are due to this, we hopefully won't see deaths as the age groups seem like they are not in the high risk age groups.

The Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has turned down a White House invitation to celebrate the new regional free trade agreement in Washington with US president Donald Trump and Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Trump and López Obrador are due to meet Wednesday in Washington, but Trudeau spokesperson said that while Canada wishes the US and Mexico well, Trudeau wont be there.

A senior US administration official said Trudeau had multiple conflicts related to the start of Parliament and coronavirus regulations which require Canadians who travel abroad to quarantine for 14 days on return. The official said Trudeau has asked to speak with Trump by phone. López Obrador also said he would be speaking to Trudeau by phone.

Coronavirus cases are rising in Texas child care facilities

Texas Department of Health and Human Services reported at least 1,335 positive Covid-19 cases throughout the state's open child care facilities.

Of those cases, 894 are among staff and 441 are children.

The positive cases are reported in 883 of the state's child care facilities. The department said that there are 12,220 open child care operations throughout the state.

How these numbers compare: On May 15, the state reported a total of 59 cases in 53 child care facilities — 36 staff and 23 children. And on June 15, there were 210 reported cases in 177 facilities, 141 staff and 69 children.

San Antonio is a week away from running out of hospital beds, mayor says

If coronavirus cases continue to rise at the current pace, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said the Texas city is “a week away from running out of hospital beds and ICU capacity.”

“The time is now ticking in terms of our hospital capacity in San Antonio just hike a lot of other big cities in Texas.”

Testing has also seen a change in Texas, Nirenberg added. “The situation for testing has been playing catch-up in Texas from the very start, and we have now just started to get to a point where we're seeing our positivity rates increase to nearly 22% to 25% nearly week over week,” he said. Earlier San Antonio was testing everyone regardless of symptoms, which led to a great demand at public labs. But that’s changed now, Nirenberg said, and labs are now focused on getting tests for those who are exhibiting symptoms or may have been exposed to the virus.

“This is a very important week for San Antonio and for the rest of the state of Texas,” he reiterated.

Since the mask mandate went into effect, the mayor says he sees people take the order seriously but Nirenberg criticized the mixed messaging from federal and state leaders.

Interesting. My DH uses budesonide, not via nebulizer but added to his NeilMed nasal rinse that he uses daily to help with his allergy/sinus problems.

Last week began with overnight camps set to reopen as part of Massachusetts’ coronavirusreopening plan in phase 3. By the end of the week, the camps had been moved to phase 4 with a timeline for reopening set for the summer of 2021.

Overnight camps, according to the state’s four-phase reopening strategy, are now prohibited from operating until the summer of 2021. Recreational day camps resumed operation in phase 2.

Penn State is tracking those in contact with a 21-year-old student who died of Covid-19 complications

Penn State announced students, faculty and staff would return to campus in the fall for classes and activities in "a limited fashion."

Both students and employees will return to campus in phases, the university said, and there will be health measures in place "including mask-wearing and social distancing."

There will also be a testing and contact-tracing program in place and Penn State said it will hire additional employees to assist all campuses.

"The University also is building capacity to isolate and quarantine impacted individuals, including support for isolated persons, to facilitate proper medical care," it said.

Tensions rise over contact tracing between Miami-Dade County and Florida health officials

Miami-Dade County is the epicenter of the Covid-19 crisis in Florida, yet according to the county, it currently does not have its own contact tracers because only the state is allowed to do that work.

On May 14, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced during a press conference that the county would hire 800 to 1,000 Covid-19 contact tracers.

When CNN asked the county today how many contact tracers the county had hired so far, the county replied by email saying that only the Florida Department of Health can contact trace in the state.

“In Florida, the Florida Department of Health is the only entity authorized to conduct contact tracing. We are in discussions with the state on how the County can supplement their efforts. As soon as these discussions conclude, we will have a direction in what we can do to assist in the contact tracing efforts. So, we don’t have our own,” the Miami-Dade statement said.

Here's a look at New York City's latest coronavirus numbers as it enters phase 3 of reopening today

New York City continues to meet the thresholds to continue moving forward with reopening, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

There were 62 new patients admitted with a suspected case of coronavirus, under the city’s threshold of 200. At the height of the pandemic, 850 people were admitted for suspected coronavirus cases in a single day.

At least 276 patients are in the public ICUs of the New York City health and hospital system, with a threshold of 375.

1% of those tested were positive, with a threshold of 15%. It’s the lowest percentage of positive the city has seen.

As the city entered phase three of reopening, mass transit usage is going up substantially faster than car traffic, the mayor said Monday.
