Here we go again, and it's not even Phase Two.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said states facing steep increases in new Covid-19 cases "should seriously look at shutting down."

The Aussie govt is paying businesses to keep their employees.

They upped unemployment payments to $750 a week. And at the same time they offered businesses $750 a week per employee to retain them. One small business I work for (I work for several, not as an employee but as a contractor) gets $45,000 a month and is keeping its employees. It helps offset the weekly payroll. Another small business I work for gets $9,000 a month.

This isn't endless. Could finish in September, or could be extended. It is up in the air at the moment.

Saw our financial advisor yesterday. She's a gru with Wells Fargo and seem to feel there will be another stimulus, except a different aim. More toward employers? More toward very low income? Probably not as before.

The health effects of Covid-19 go far beyond the virus, WHO says

The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on world health stretch far beyond “the suffering caused by the virus itself,” World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during an address to member states in Geneva on Thursday.

The pandemic is affecting areas such as vaccinations for children, medication for diseases, refugee health and world hunger.

Tedros said there are hundreds of millions of children who are at risk of missing routine vaccinations for diseases such as tuberculosis and measles. Many countries are also running low on HIV medications.

Refugees, who already face limited access to shelter, water and nutrition, he said, are among the most vulnerable.“Covid-19 could push them over the brink,” he said.

He also said that many people are now going hungry, and that poverty has become more visible during the time of the pandemic, citing estimates from the World Food Programme that global hunger could increase to more than 270 million people.

Countries are facing “a delicate balance between protecting their people and maintaining essential health services while minimizing social and economic damage and respecting human rights,” Tedros said.

I heard on TV tonight that Australia has repatriated 70,000 of our citizens back to our country since this whole thing started! I was shocked. It has all gone so well.

And if it wasn't for that one quarantined person (that we know of) who broke quarantine rules, our state of Victoria wouldn't be in the 2nd wave that it is now in.

Florida insurance agent fired after mask meltdown at Costco

Daniel Maples: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

This guy, went off the deep end, when asked to wear a mask at Costco. Now, his behavior has cost him his job.

I think that this is actually more of a mental health problem, and reaction to the stress a lot of people have been dealing with. The entire "Covid Experience" is a yardstick of our ability to cope, and be resilient to change. This doesn't seem to be about wearing a mask to me, but the deeper problem of being confronted by a tangible object, a mask, that really represents the intangible situation of "Covid" in its entirety. Existentialism, fear of death, disease, disability, and a factor that we really cannot control our lives now.

I hope that this gentleman gets some help.

Federal Government Sending Medical Teams To DFW Hospitals During Coronavirus Hospitalizations Spike

On Wednesday, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported there are 9,610 people being treated for Covid-19 in hospitals across the state.

Earlier this week, the CEO of the DFW Hospital Council told CBS-11 some of the large hospital systems in North Texas have shifted some staffing and patients from some of their facilities to others amid the increase in hospitalizations.

He said if hospitalizations continue to rise at their current rate, North Texas hospitals would have to activate their surge plans in the next 2-3 weeks.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson also made a request for medical personnel to White House Coronavirus Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx last Friday.

During a news conference Wednesday, Dr. Birx announced what Secretary Azar described as a glimmer of positive news. “We are in Texas seeing what appears to be a decline in the rate of growth of ER presentations by individuals with Covid-like symptoms.”

But hours later Wednesday, Dallas County reported there was an increase of 200 E-R visits between Monday and Tuesday, to 786 — representing nearly 35 percent of all such visits in the county.

The state reported Wednesday there were 9,979 new cases of the virus since Tuesday.

They had increased by more than 10,000 the day before.

Gosh, I hope that glimmer turns into a full downturn for Texas asap.

Texas County To Arrest COVID-19 Positive Residents Who Refuse To Self-Isolate

A South Texas county isn’t taking any chances when it comes to the coronavirus, issuing a warning that anyone who tests positive and refuses to self-isolate could end up in jail.

The warning, which was confirmed as legitimate by an Official with the Brooks County Office of Emergency Management, cites Texas Penal Code 22.05 (a) which states “A person commits an offense if he recklessly engages in conduct that places another in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.”

One. Person.

That needs to sink in. :(

I agree. I know of people who had anxiety who are just going off the deep end right now. It seems everything is magnified.

Growing Number Of Texas Sheriffs Refuse To Enforce Governor Abbott's Face Mask Requirement

A growing number of sheriffs in Texas say they are refusing to follow a recent executive order requiring face masks in public. Governor Greg Abbott’s mandate aims to slow the spread of coronavirus, as cases in the state soared past 200,000 on Tuesday.

Police officials in at least nine counties — including Denton, Houston, Montgomery, Gillespie, Upshur, Kerr, Gregg, Nacogdoches and Panola — said they will not impose the ruling with verbal or written citations. Some counties cited staffing issues, while others said the language in the order makes it impossible to police.

Maybe. But he was charging at people (appeared to be concealed carry, plus interesting t-shirt), while saying he felt threatened. Then he actually asked them to threaten him again, while charging forward. Like he was trying to set up a "Stand Your Ground" situation. He was trying to start something, not some innocent cowering victim.

All the while his female partner sounded scared and quietly said his name. I wonder what their evening was like.

Maybe not everyone's anxiety looks the same. I want to be sympathetic. But then I have to acknowledge that we all deserve sympathy, then. Not just certain people.

Lake Worth Nursing Home Evacuated; Some Residents Test Positive for COVID-19

More than five dozen residents of a Lake Worth nursing home were evacuated Wednesday afternoon at the request of state health officials, according to MedStar.

MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky could not say why the Texas Department of State Health Services requested they move the patients from the facility, but he confirmed about two dozen of them were positive for COVID-19.

"The state let us know that about 25 of the patients here at this facility are coronavirus positive, so that’s part of the mix," Zavadsky said. "You’ll see that we’re taking precautions on every single patient that we’re moving to protect the patients, protect our staff, and the folks at the receiving facility against the coronavirus."

Oh, I agree. While I'm empathetic, if you need help, get treatment. If you break the law, you get the consequences. Jmo

Biden preparing for 'multiple scenarios' on COVID-19 vaccine: Official

First time I have seen Biden's view about Covid. (Albeit from an official).

When asked if Biden’s Public Health Board had advised the former vice president on the likelihood of a vaccine being widely available for distribution by the time he would potentially take office, the official cautioned there is no guarantee that will be the case.

"They've advised the vice president that you know there have been encouraging signs around some of the candidate vaccines but that nothing is a sure thing and that we can't count on that," the official said.

"So we have to make provision for there being a vaccine and do the heavy lifting of what it's going to take once it's identified to get it to everyone, and we also have to make provision for there not being a vaccine and to have to live in a world where we're still trying to get the pandemic under control," the official added.

The comment came in tandem with the release of Biden’s new plan to bolster the U.S. supply chain of critical goods needed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, which his campaign says will "marshal all of the tools of the federal government" to procure the necessary supplies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, distribute a potential vaccine for the virus and shift the production of relevant materials back to U.S. soil.
