I live in a smallish city in Texas, but my loved ones, including grown children are in a very large city a few hours away. It’s easy to take a look at the rapidly growing numbers and see that we need a hard lockdown before the hospitals are completely overrun, not after. We need it before the schools and daycares open, not after! I don’t know anyone who wants that, but as Taste123 said, sacrifices must be made in order to protect lives. MOO

My work is online, I am alone, and that’s not good. I had to put my cat and my dog down within the last 3 months, (unrelated natural causes). It is too hot to walk or garden for more than a few minutes. I am keeping it together but just barely.

I’m very grateful to be able to converse with everyone here at WS! I look forward to Trisha’s podcasts. It’s like having a few friends (and their pets),over in my living room.

I’m ready to bite the bullet with a complete lockdown because this has got to be stopped, the sooner, the better!

I am retired and live alone also. I do have my dog here, otherwise I would probably sleep until the afternoon, so thank goodness for him!
My son lives 10 mins away, but him and his wife are always working so I rarely see them but I do drop off things on their porch often and visit every other weekend (we sit in the backyard w/masks)
Otherwise, I am alone too, and probably over compensate for that by being online too much.
Very hot where I live, I am a runner, but not in this heat, so that bums me out. I can't even take the dog out in this, since he is older and gets overheated easily.
Just wanted you to know that you are not the only one!

Our area in Virginia is heading towards either dropping down a phase (we are at phase 3 and I don't think we should be here) or another lockdown. Guv will be having a press conference tomorrow to let us know the plan. We are skyrocketing here and there are so many not wearing masks, even though it is a state wide mandate.

That's unfortunate. He's been trying so hard all this time, but seems to be up against an avalanche at this point. I wish either he, or Mr Cuomo, were our governor. We need help.:( jmo

Coronavirus pandemic: Updates from around the world

New Mexico closes indoor restaurant seating as Covid-19 cases rise
From CNN’s Konstantin Toropin

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has re-enacted restrictions on indoor seating at restaurants and breweries in response to a rise in Covid-19 cases in the state, a statement from her office said.

The new public health order again prohibits indoor dining at restaurants, which had been allowed with limits since June 1, and restricts indoor seating at breweries, which was allowed with limits since June 15, according to the statement.

The latest numbers: In the past two weeks, the state has seen at least 3,049 new positive cases of Covid-19, representing 20.2% of the total positive cases statewide over the course of the pandemic, according to the governor’s office.

The same in western Virginia, major outbreaks number doubling weekly, little testing. No involvement from the health dept and our county leaders struggle to even understand the numbers for our county. We cannot really compare or get a picture together because of data from the State HD, is reported so no one can figure out what is happening locally. Testing is by entire district, nursing home/jails/mental hospitals deaths/cases don't show by district or city, just one lump sum, no grafts by county,, deaths and cases are by city but can't compare with testing. I met with 3 of my BOS 3 weeks ago and tried to do a Covid 101 class on our numbers, at the park. They just defer to the local helath dept which refuses to speak publicly. We can't expect elected officials in small towns to have the expertise or understand of complex infection control, controlling community spread and tracing.

Virginia hit almost a 1000 new cases today and Northam announced Saturday he would "speak" on Tuesday. I don't see the entire state going back to phase 3 but I do see him allowing Hampton Roads since that's "his neck of the woods".

He announced phase 3 in a tweet and FB, as the last 4 pressers were tailored to the encouraging the protest and a show a many local Richmond BLM leaders. Then he just abruptly stopped all PC 2 weeks ago with no word or warning.

Its like he just stopped talking about Covid since the end of May. Hope he gets a handle on this quickly. IHME is projecting >5k deaths on the last update, prior to the update we were projected around 2,500 deaths. And the UVA model Northam uses hasn't been updated since the first of May.

Moo...

Oh, Florida. :(

Coronavirus pandemic: Updates from around the world

ICUs are full at this Florida hospital. Here's how the staff is coping with surging hospitalizations.
From CNN's Aditi Sangal

As coronavirus cases continue to soar in Florida, Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Florida, is past its ICU capacity, and the team is now “creating space at every inch of the building,” CEO Leah Carpenter says.

“We’re at an ICU capacity of 103% and then if you just carve out the Covid ICU, it’s at 180%. That’s a 26% increase from last Monday,” Carpenter tells CNN.

“We've set up tents outside of our emergency rooms to help with the capacity in the emergency room. We've converted many non-traditional areas in the building to patient care areas. For example, auditoriums, conference rooms, classrooms.”

L.A. Unified School District will not resume in-person classes when school year begins Aug. 18: Superintendent Beutner | KTLA

The Los Angeles Unified School District’s next school will begin Aug. 18, but students won’t be returning to their classrooms, District Superintendent Austin Beutner announced Monday.

“While the new school year will begin in August, it will not start with students at school
facilities,” Beutner said. “The health and safety of all in the school community is not something we can compromise. The news about the spread of the virus continues to be of great concern.”

O.C. Board of Education to tell schools social distancing isn’t necessary for students and masks could be ‘harmful’ | KTLA

The Orange County Board of Education is set to meet Monday to push for the reopening of campuses without many of the widely recommended coronavirus safety protocols.

Ahead of the 6 p.m. meeting, the board released a document of recommendations for reopening schools, saying that social distancing among students is “not necessary” and wearing masks is difficult to implement and “may even be harmful.”

Ooooof.......didn’t people get the memo that we had a similar pandemic in 1918 ?

We all here saw this coming months ago.....

Let me guess....now I’m only guessing here, but......the schools will all reopen......then more people will get sick.....

I’ll call it the second wave......and it will be worse than the first wave....

Hello everybody.....I’m still in my lock down mode....and watching.

The boardwalk is full of non masked people.

The boardwalk has an unusual and over abundant smell of ...marijuana......I hear....hehe

Stay safe all.

Nancy Pelosi or another high-ranking government official needs to take a stand now before this goes any further.

I can't believe it's gotten this far or that any school board would do this. Eye-opening. Gut-wrenching.
