We are doomed - the nurses I know wear full PPE so who’s paying for our teachers PPE? Will it be medical grade ? Because if not - we are doomed - and by the way the b-ballers at the park were at it again tonight and there was rain and lightening too - so they really are invincible I guess

Exactly why no visitors are allowed in the hospitals.
No court being held because a jury can't be seated and expected to stay well f I r the duration of a trial. Here in Georgia anyway.
No court until September or later!
Kids in schools makes zero sense!
Just something else that'll backfire.

Yes I believe we are in real trouble - I don’t think there is any plan in place to equip our teachers - many I personally know are buying masks and asking their parents to make the kids start wearing masks so when it’s time to start the 7 hour school day they will be used to it - which implies to me kids haven’t been wearing masks because it’s not a statewide mandate - I work with lawyers who go to lunch every day - our tenants let their kids come and hang out in the offices because they are bored - no masks - while I personally don’t go anywhere except work and the grocery - they are out and about every day and bringing their exposures back to the offices and shared bathrooms kitchen copy machine etc. and Florida is wide open - although I think they aren’t allowing bars to sell drinks after the numbers revealed their patrons were spreading Covid because again- no masks and no social distancing was observed - and the basketball players just playing every night like there’s nothing wrong - they go home, then come to work and every person they played with could be a carrier and so the spread continues - until this stops yes - I feel we are doomed - quite the turnaround from the cruiser who “rolled the dice” march 13 eh?
And thank you @10ofRods I'm trying but it’s everyone around me that I can’t control

It's exhausting. And crazy-making. I find myself uttering platitudes in various ways: Oh, it will get better or umm...vaccine?" But it's getting bad so quickly in several states. California is right behind you - but I do not think we will open the schools, so we haven't turned that particular dial all the way up.

Mask wearing has gone up in coastal SoCal (except Orange County, they've decided apparently to run an experiment on themselves).

To me, it seems that there's this Big Thing looming over us, and first it starts a little fire here - and then another one over there, and it just grows. Sometimes it seems like not nearly enough is being done by public health and tax dollars.

Exactly - no jury trials here in Central Florida yet but yes let’s send those kids, teachers and administrators to school because everything’s fine and we need to learn to “live with it” - I hope there is federal money to pay funeral expenses - oh wait - are funerals even allowed ? We just had a client pass away so I will see what they do with the body - cannot believe I even have to wonder ...

Oh, @oviedo, I wish I could make the worry melt away from you tonight. Sometimes it helps to just tune everything out, light a candle or pull out some nice-smelling oils, and just listen to those hours-long nature sounds videos on YouTube...

The average New Yorker is now getting their COVID-19 test results back in three days, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Wednesday, as the city works against a national “logjam” in diagnostic testing.

This week, test result time has started to “rapidly” decrease in New York City, de Blasio said, though with the caveat that the data was preliminary. “Based on the latest information, the average — this is not everyone — but the average for test results is down to three days.”

That’s roughly twice as fast as the nation’s leading laboratories, which this month revised their expected turnaround times up to a week or more as cases surge across the country. Earlier this week, de Blasio said the national “logjam” had slowed down test results in New York, where some 40,000 people are tested everyday.
Potentially elongated wait times came at a moment when the virus is spreading fastest among young adults, a demographic that is more likely to be asymptomatic or only mildly ill, and who have shown to be more cavalier about social distancing and other precautions. Some of the most egregious examples of people flouting the mask mandates and distancing guidelines in New York City have been crowds of young adults around bars, restaurants and parks, particularly in Manhattan.

Total infections among 18-to-44-year-olds in New York City grew three times as fast as the infections among people 65 and older in the first two weeks of this month, according to data from the city’s health department. Hospitalizations among people 18 to 44 years old rose roughly twice as fast as those 65 and older during that timespan.

We've been livestreaming funerals here. And then had parades to the cemetary where everyone stayed in their cars. Well that was a month or two ago. I'm not sure what we're doing now. Jmo

My faith is shaken by the fact both countries have some of the worlds most horrific coronavirus stats. Really, who'd have thunk it?! Both leaders remained blasé while other countries were acting fast and slamming their doors. Donald "we're doin' great" Trump and Boris "wash your hands" Johnson made many early mistakes in their addresses to the public, and continue to issue confusing or conflicting guidelines.

I'd like to have faith in the governments, I really would, but on this issue I definitely have more faith in the medical experts.

As I said, we the electorate put them and their administrations in charge, now we have to let them complete the task at hand. Plenty of time for recriminations in the future IMO. I think both countries have come up with exceptional funding to help the public and businesses while devoting resources to the health services. Each country has it's own challenges to overcome. Constant attacking policy or personalities is not going to help anything while we are still fighting the pandemic. Purely MOO.

Yes, me too. There are some governors and mayors who have emerged as total heros here in the States. It has been one silver lining to know their leadership has been so strong, and compassionate.

Here on the east coast the messaging has been very consistent. And, the importance of messaging cannot be understated. It provided an anchor when other people at the top, and half the states just spun out of control.

Hoping our friends in England will be ok. The pics I saw of peeps in the streets on pub reopening night were worrisome.. and that is an understatement. You should know in two three weeks how that worked out?

Part of our problem here is the number of people with no health care or insurance. And the underinsured. They’re sick, spreading the virus and not ending up in the hospital until they are deathly sick. It’s a very sad piece of this time in need for the USA.

And the inconsistency of national messaging has spun this country out of control. Friends not living on the east coast are really besides themselves with worry. It’s just no way to live, much less try to survive a pandemic.

Oh you and @10ofRods and others have made me feel better - I’m watching masterclass great British baking show, just did a zoom meeting with one of the lawyers and now I’m having some of my infused raspberry vodka so for the next hour I’m going to pretend all is well ... thanks for the virtual hug

That's just not fast enough though because of who they will infect while awaiting a result. So the top national labs take 6days? Just not fast enough. It has to be turnaround in less than a day.

Madison County leaders worry people not quarantining while waiting for coronavirus test results

“This is why you hear us like a broken record. If you're tested, assume you're positive and stay separate, stay isolated, treat yourself as if you are positive," she said.

Hudson said she's heard stories about many people who have been tested and didn't quarantine while they waited for their results.

Madison Mayor Paul Finley said he's heard similar stories.

"My first instinct is why are you out? But my realization in talking to folks is in many instances they don't feel bad, they're asymptomatic. I will stay until I'm sick, but that's not what you should do," he said.”

White House Strips CDC Of Data Collection Role For COVID-19 Hospitalizations

"Since March, hospitals have reported daily information on the availability of hospital beds, ventilators and personal protective equipment to an established data collection network run by the CDC called the National Healthcare Safety Network or NHSN, which has operated for years.

As of Wednesday, hospitals are being instructed by HHS not to use that system and instead to report to a new site set up by the department using a private contractor called TeleTracking.

The new system was set up by TeleTracking, a private company based in Pennsylvania, which was awarded the $10 million contract in a noncompetitive bid in April. Sen. Patty Murphy, D-Wash., the ranking member of the Senate health committee, wrote a letter to CDC Director Robert Redfield on June 3 asking why TeleTracking was awarded the contract on a noncompetitive basis."

This whole thing stinks to high heaven, IMO.

What type of country are we?
No concentration on the big problem that is on everyone's mind and agenda: the virus.
Not taking national level control of a major national health issue.
Attempting to send our youth into a high risk situations. No juries. No funerals. Bars and churches (some areas) closed. Major sports events w/o fans. Schools, however, are told to reopen, endangering both youth and teachers.
Holding rallies and events, endangering lives.
Attempting to take away health care during a major health crisis.
Attempting to withhold from the public pandemic statistics.
Not listening to scientists who have for years studied and focused on health information.

I literally have no idea if this is for real or not.

Hebrew U. scientist: Drug could eradicate COVID-19 from lungs in days

The team then reviewed a panel of eight already-approved drugs that could possibly interfere with the virus’s ability to reproduce. Tricor caused the cells to start burning fat, Nahmias said. The result was that the virus almost completely disappeared within only five days of treatment.

I have been watching business closely here in SW Ontario and those who care about my health will get my business. Those who do not- too bad so sad for them.

I totally agree with what you are saying. I stopped using our local grocery store a while ago....too many tourists..and I just transferred my prescriptions from my local pharmacy to another further away. It’s too bad but if the stores can’t enforce distancing I wont go there. Come September when the tourists are gone I wonder how many locals will even return locally to shop. Not me, I’m getting set up in another community where there are fewer tourists and more rules.
