What was the Nike cover up? I haven't heard of that.
There was an outbreak in Edinburgh as early as February, it infected over two dozen people and sturgeon was well aware of it at the time but decided not to publicly announce it until May... which meant people who had came into contact with the confirmed infected people weren’t aware they had done so... maybe she wanted to save face? Maybe she wanted to appear Scotland had it all under control “more than England did”... In a similar situation in England when a “super spreader” from Brighton infected people around the country, we were all told about it at the time, the public were made aware + contact tracing was done as a result.

This article is excellent in pointing out the hypocrisy of sturgeons handling of covid19 as opposed to Johnson’s handling, which really aren’t too different after all. The media bias in Scotland gives me North Korea vibes. just saying....

Can Schools Reopen Safely? Newark Pilot Program Offers a Trial Run | NJ Spotlight

The Newark school district originally said all programs this summer would be virtual. But after the state announced last month that summer programs could take place in person if they met new safety standards, the district decided to pilot the two in-person sites while the majority of students took online classes.

Summer-school-Newark-1.jpg

Newark: Students at Thirteenth Avenue School’s in-person summer program must wear masks and sit behind barriers on desks spaced 6 feet apart.

Summer-school-Newark-2.jpg

Newark: Students at First Avenue School’s summer program go through a multi-step entry process that includes a temperature check, shoe sanitizing, and hand sanitizing.

Oh my gosh!
I need to readjust my level of tolerance.
I imagine that this number will continue to climb.
I know a person who is sorta in the "know".
Ok not sorta, he knows stuff. He is retired so able to speak enough to get the point across.
Stressing that this fall and winter will test us all.
Could he be mistaken? Sure.
This is completely against his norm.
Formal high person from NATO.
Also a brigadier General from a military force.
Mods if you need info, I can provide it.

I think we all have been thinking the same.

My granddaughter is very sick now! She is 21 months old.. 104.9 fever and a horrible rash! Her little face is so swollen!
I would attach a photo, but I have no "link" I was trying to research how is this possible? She has not left the house since March!! Her mother hasn't either. Her dad works with a mask on with 8 other men on computers all day.
They have all their groceries delivered!!!
I found this.
It's fascinating! A retired pediatric nurse and I had NO IDEA.
I thought I'd share, for those with small children in your family.
Worth the read!!

How Are My Kids Still Getting Sick in Lockdown?
So sorry about your granddaughter. I sure hope she is better soon. Poor little baby. This is scary stuff. You must be so worried. I can't read any article with NY Times though. Any highlights from it that stand out to you?

The "power" inclusion bothers me - no idea how to prepare for extended power outage. Thinking of all that food in the freezer..........

Miami-Dade County announces a $100 fine for anyone who fails to wear a mask in public

Miami-Dade County, the most populous county in Florida and the current epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, could fine residents up to $100 if they fail to comply with its mask requirement. The county, which is the seventh most populous county in the US at over 2.7 million residents, started this week fining residents who don't wear masks in public spaces indoors and outside. Police and code enforcement officers issue the tickets.

Failure to follow the city of Tampa's mask mandate could result in a fine up to $500.

Leon and Orange counties, where state capital Tallahassee and Orlando are located, respectively, have also imposed mask requirements.

The city of Jacksonville, which will soon host a pared-down Republican National Convention, has also mandated masks in public.

Of each thing or total?
2 - Beans (Black beans, cannelini, great northern) 2- veggies like corn and green beans. I tried to get refried beans and cannelini beans (I need 7 for a soup I make) and they said I had to put one back - I've been buying 2 cannelini everytime I go so I can make the soup- it's taken me almost two months since I only go twice a month.

I heard Mayor Demings on the radio this am saying they were sending out people to businesses to make sure they were complying with the County's order- social distancing, masks, hand sanitizer etc. I had to inventory boxes of an estate yesterday and wore the mask for over 3 hours - it is not pleasant and I appreciate all of the employees who are working their entire shift in a mask - when I'm in my office I can take it off since I am alone.

It's possible that Stockholm is getting close to herd immunity, as the number of new cases are not getting higher even as people are less careful of social distancing, and other means of protection against the corona virus (no requirement of face masks here in Sweden). It's possible that the number of people in Stockholm with antibodies and/or T-cells is as high as 40 percent, to get herd immunity at least 40 - 45 percent of the population have to be immune.
Stockholm kan närma sig flockimmunitet

(I love it, “flockimmunitet“. This is going to be my new word) :)

What should I be doing?
Hi Seenit,

Imo, it’s the same things we were talking about in Feb:

1. Make sure you have your prescriptions ready to go / try to get a 90 day refill prescribed and get it now. This will ensure you don’t have to go to the pharmacy, or face any possible shortages. Also see if your pharmacy delivers.

2. Have your pantry stocked with shelf stable goods that can sustain: soups, broth, rice, beans, pasta, sauces, condiments. I say condiments because they help give some excitement and variety to the banal. And if you have a ready made sauce, it’ll suffice for no fresh ingredients.

3. Have an extra bottle of bleach on hand. We know this kills the virus, and it goes a long way, better than wipes, imo, which are hard to find anyway. It can be diluted and you can get a whole bucket out of just a little bleach, with the proper ratios.

4. Have all your pet goods, including food, treats, chews and medications. (I say chews/bones because I forgot those the last time and my dog was not happy).

5. Get any over the counter things you need, a big bottle of Tylenol, tums, pain cream, etc.

6. Have minimal toiletries- soap, etc.

If you slowly try to get these, say a few extra cans here and there when you shop, then there’s no hoarding going on and less strain on supply chains when stuff hits the fan. It’s also economically easier than having to suddenly buy a bunch of stuff. Plus, you can get it now while it is available.

I’ve realized since March what I do and don’t want to live without. I’ve realized I don’t want to live without cheese and mustard lol, especially if I’m stuck eating sandwiches all the time. I think this is what you should think about: what can and can’t you live without. If you are stuck in your house during the cold months, what will you want? I have some extra teabags and coffee. I’ve also learned certain things don’t last around here, like some snacks, so I’ve been focusing on more “meal based” items for “sustenance”.

I learned potatoes were impossible to find. So the past month I’ve bought potatoes, boiled, chopped and frozen them in small portions. This way I can just grab a small portion for soup, stew, casserole, hash browns or mashed.

I have 4 stackable containers in my freezer. Each container has a pack of bacon, a pack of cheese, a pack of tortillas, a pack of lunchmeat, some meat, vegetables and potatoes.

I also have bought things like minced onion, garlic powder, etc. should fresh produce be a problem.

I wonder if toilet paper will become extinct again. I’ve gotten a couple extra packs of those now while it’s available, just incase.

These are a few thoughts. If I think of anything else I’ll tag ya. :)

Florida dad is fighting for his life after contracting COVID-19 from his son

A Florida father is fighting for his life after contracting coronavirus from his son, who tested positive after ignoring his parents' advice to stay home and not gather with friends.

John Place, from Plantation, is currently in the intensive care unit at Westside Regional Medical Center where he was put on a ventilator for more than two weeks.

The 42-year-old and his family all tested positive for COVID-19 last month after his 21-year-old son went out with friends one night and unknowingly brought the respiratory virus back to their home.

The young man, who did not want to talk to the media, had told his father and stepmother that he initially thought he had a common cold and took over-the-counter medication.

When he heard about his friend testing positive for coronavirus, he still didn't think he had it.

But members of the family started to fall ill one by one, starting with his 14-year-old brother, who is also overweight and was wheezing, coughing and lethargic.

The six-year-old sister had only a runny nose. The stepmother was achy, with a fever and chills.
