You're amazing! I didn't start until the original poster put up this thread. Then I got busy!

Don forget lots of online video of how to safely can. Its not hard. I still can "country"sausage in glass jars.

Also many vegetables can be "dried" and rehydrated before cooking.

Neat trick, at the end of summer I take all the GREEN tomatoes, can't have any red, wrap in newspaper and store in a cool spot in the basement. Come Christmas, I have sliced fresh homegrown tomatoes to serve.

Yum Yum...

I dreamt last night that Dr. Fauci was mine and my dead ex-husband's marriage counselor. At one point Dr. Fauci even got in our bed....LOLLLL

We need a thread just for covid dreams lol.

Sadly mine have been scary, I saw a loved one’s feet hanging over the end of a hospital bed with a toe tag and I woke up screaming. I also have these dreams where people come close to me without a mask lol, which actually just happened while I was out walking, again people with no mask not respecting distancing. I turned my back, cut a new direction, held my breath hoping I got zero viral load.

I've had several COVID related dreams in which I'm out at a store or some other public place and suddenly realize no one is wearing masks, including me! And people are getting too close to me. In one dream I ran all the way home (kind of) with no shoes on, LOL. I'd been shoe shopping in the dream, and was sad to leave behind the pretty white sandals I had been trying on.

Abdominal and testicular pain: An atypical presentation of COVID-19

Am J Emerg Med. 2020 Jul; 38(7): 1542.e1–1542.e3.

This case report describes a man who was referred to the ED for abdominal and testicular pain who was subsequently found to test positive for COVID-19. Due to the lack of respiratory symptoms, proper protective equipment (PPE) was not donned, and it led to several patients and health care workers being exposed.

Speaking of CoVid dreams, they were really horrifying (and hallucinatory) for DH when he was at his worst. He said his dreams and thoughts were difficult to distinguish from a kind of scary reality.

Iowa news today: as of 10:00 a.m. today, we have 879 new confirmed cases for a total of 37,616 confirmed cases (IDPH has 37,668 at 11:00 a.m.) of which 27,551 have recovered (IDPH has 27,554 at 11:00). 5 more have passed away for a total of 782.
IMO, this is the highest 24 hr. 10:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. total to date. July 17: 879 new COVID-19 cases in Iowa, state passes 400,000 tests
Iowa COVID-19 Information
Gov. Reynolds: Iowa schools must prioritize in-person learning Several schools in Iowa had already confirmed that they were going to do remote learning, so now they have to replan again or get permission to do so.

Yes, Iowa is experiencing an upswing (but it looks like Iowa is also taking mitigating efforts seriously).

It's worrying (for teachers and teenage students especially) to prioritize in-person learning but I do get it.

Florida coronavirus patient went from diagnosis to dying in her daughter's arms in a matter of days

The illness began with stomach symptoms, but Laurens' daughters soon noticed she was very weak and not making sense, Fereira said.

Late Wednesday, July 1, her daughter brought her to the Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Florida, Fereira said. Due to virus precautions, his aunt could not stay at the hospital with Laurens, who had underlying conditions including diabetes and did not speak English.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, the hospital called the family to tell
them Laurens had been diagnosed with coronavirus, Fereira said. On that hospital phone call, Laurens cried to her family that she was scared.

According to a medical document provided by Fereira, she was released around 3 a.m. on Thursday with instructions to pick up prescriptions and to call her doctor for a follow-up consultation in two days. But her family had no way to make contact with her directly, because she did not have a cellphone with her, and it was 6 a.m. before the hospital let them know she could be picked up, he said.

The hospital system said it couldn't comment on Laurens' specific case but that admission decisions are based on a number of factors and the physician's assessment.

That Thursday night, still feeling unwell, she was taken by her daughter to another Memorial Hospital Miramar location, Fereira said. She was again diagnosed with Covid-19 and prescribed new medications for her symptoms, according to documents provided by Fereira.

Although documents from the hospital instructed her to schedule a follow-up visit around July 4, Fereira said medical offices were closed for the holiday and she got an appointment for early that week.

But Laurens didn't make it to that day, Fereira said.

They should have seen the testicular thing coming. Lots of ACE2 receptors in the testes.

I make jars of blackberry jam every year, it's nearly that time again, loads already starting to grow on the hedgerows - jam is very easy to make and usually I make enough to last till January.

That oughta inspire some men to wise up if they haven’t already, testicular pain.

Yes, same thing with Chris Cuomo: he has spoken about his hallucinations and dreams.

Chris says he is still struggling with the after effects, says you do not want to get this virus. He claims to have a new symptom of depression, which he didn’t have before. Of course many are encountering depression as a result of this situation, but I got the impression he thinks this is directly related to him having the virus, moo. He says you don’t want to get this virus, it will take things from you that you may never get back.

Coronavirus updates: 356,000 Californians infected; public schools close for fall

“The coronavirus has infected more than 356,000 Californians [...] Over the last week as of Wednesday, about 7.2 percent of all coronavirus tests came back positive. That rolling average is close to the state’s self-imposed benchmark of keeping the positivity rate at 8 percent or less before reopening the economy.”
I thought WHO recommends 5%??

“Jul 5, 2020 · The World Health Organization's recommended positivity rate for reopening is 5% or below over a period of 14 days, according to John Hopkins ...”

source

I wonder where the 8% figure came from. Was it based on medical science, or did someone in leadership just pull that number out of the air? Frankly, if they chose a figure that is higher than the WHO recommendation of 5%, then rising rates were totally predictable.

Capt Sir Tom Moore knighted in 'unique' ceremony

"Captain Sir Tom Moore has been knighted in the Queen's first official engagement in person since lockdown.

The investiture to honour the 100-year-old, who raised more than £32m for NHS charities, was staged in a "unique ceremony" at Windsor Castle.

He has been recognised for walking more than 100 laps of his garden in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire.

Capt Sir Tom, originally from Keighley, West Yorkshire, said it was "the most special of days for me".

"I am absolutely overawed," he said,

"This is such a high award and to get it from Her Majesty as well - what more can anyone wish for? This has been an absolutely magnificent day for me.

"The money [raised] is very useful but you've only one Queen and when you get a message from the Queen there's no value that can be placed on that."

The Queen personally praised Capt Sir Tom, telling him: "Thank you so much, an amazing amount of money you raised."

In May, Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a special nomination for the war veteran to be knighted.

Buckingham Palace believes it is the first time the ceremony has been held in the strictly socially distanced format.

God bless the Queen and Sir Tom.

Post of the Day Award !!!

I cried, Tom so deserves to be knighted. I was so afraid he would not have this opportunity.

The Queen is one sneaky little lady !!!

Hail to the Queen!!!

Yes I've heard CC mention this. And I have seen articles recently discussing the possible effects of CoVid on the brain.

DH told us he once dreamt there were refrigerator trucks at the bottom of the bed, waiting for him. It was such a vivid experience for him, he couldn't shake it for quite a long time. And...he's a psychologist who often does dream interpretation with clients.

Riverside Community Hospital Staff to Picket ‘Unsafe’ Working Conditions

“Following the death of two of their co-workers from COVID-19, Riverside Community Hospital staff plan to picket outside the facility Friday because of what they say is a lack of personal protective equipment.

“Workers report widespread shortages of PPE and the unsafe recycling of single-use equipment like masks and gloves,” said Steve Trossman, a spokesman for SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West, the union that represents more than 1,000 employees at the hospital.“

[...]

“In May, Rosa Luna, a housekeeper of 25 years died from the virus, union officials said.

“She suffered a horrible, horrible death. This not like the flu. It’s a thousand times worse,” Luna’s daughter Dora Reaza told NBC4.”

[...]

““We’re risking our lives every single day,” Raymond Valdivia, a nursing assistant at Riverside Community, said in a statement. “But HCA management isn’t giving us the PPE we need or telling us if we’ve been exposed to COVID-19, even after two co-workers died from exposure and more are coming down with the virus. It’s not safe for us or our patients. Do we have to see more hospital workers die while HCA collects billions from taxpayer bailouts?”“

I finally braved my way out of my apartment for more than simply grabbing my mail. I started thinking that I needed some direct sunlight, or I'd eventually become Vit D deficient.

I shocked myself when one day I took it a step further and abandoned wearing plastic gloves on my short excursions. I try to use my wrist to deal w/ the elevator buttons and such, but to get back in the building, as well as in some of the stores, I need to use my hands. I'm dealing with it.

The last week to 10 days, I have noticed some of the neighborhood regulars not wearing masks. Also, not keeping a safe distance like prior months and weeks. I'm simply just gonna have to deal with it.

If I'm in a feisty mood and anyone without a mask comes too close to me and I feel I can risk it without a big commotion, I say, Hey! I'm old now. Where's your mask? Move away from me!
