DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Kim Reynolds' office has lifted a cap on the number of COVID-19 tests a Dubuque clinic will be able to perform.

Earlier this week, the governor's office said Epic Health and Wellness could not conduct more than 100 tests per day.

Officials said the clinic was not able to handle the volume of tests it was administering, leading to long lines and unusable samples.

On Friday, the governor's office said the cap would be lifted but testing would be done only by appointment, starting Monday.

The governor's spokeswoman said the clinic had cooperated in making scheduling changes to improve its testing procedures.

I wonder how testing by appointment only is going to work out.

The testing sites around here are appointment only. They require either a virtual visit or you answer a questionnaire online and schedule a time/location.

Also I saw someone online refer to it as "the mask of the beast" today. They said people who take the mask of the beast will take the mark of the beast and "we know who they are". lol Moron.....trying to seriously threaten and intimidate religious people into refusing to comply so they don't feel like they are committing some moral crime. It makes me just flat out angry.

It’s senseless. This has really revealed the crazies.

My son has asthma and we think his inhaler has really helped him. He got a new type last year and it is really effective and long lasting. In a red puffer. Don't know what it is called but it is a mix of preventative and therapeutic.
I have also read that asthma is not one of the underlying health conditions considered as at risk regarding coronavirus fatalities, but Alzheimers/Dementia, Heart disease and Diabetes, are the major ones.

Here's an up to date list from CDC. Asthma is listed as a "might be" .

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

"People of any age with certain underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19:

People of any age with the following conditions are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19:

COVID-19 is a new disease. Currently there are limited data and information about the impact of underlying medical conditions and whether they increase the risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Based on what we know at this time, people with the following conditions might be at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19:

Want to see the evidence behind these lists?

Children who have medical complexity, who have neurologic, genetic, metabolic conditions, or who have congenital heart disease might be at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 compared to other children.

The list of underlying conditions is meant to inform clinicians to help them provide the best care possible for patients, and to inform individuals as to what their level of risk may be so they can make individual decisions about illness prevention. We are learning more about COVID-19 every day. This list is a living document that may be updated at any time, subject to potentially rapid change as the science evolves."

More at link including precautions to take.

Yes. I’ve heard both. Both that it’s a factor and isn’t as major a factor as they think.

I also use a red inhaler. It’s ciclesonide.

There are studies indicating it and a similar drug may aid in treatment and/or prevent serious symptoms:

Also, another, medication of the same class has shown great promise in treating COVID.

I mean I think our problem is fivefold in this country and why our numbers are so high:
4. A cultural disdain for expertise and science.
What ever the reasons for the surge in numbers, I doubt this is one of the reasons. Rather, Americans hold science and expertise in very high regard. A list of US scientific accomplishments would be too long for this page. But.... it does include the Polio vaccine.

I think there are some other factors:

- A very free society. US culture has never affirmed social controls. As a result, Americans of any political stripe are very accustomed to freedom of association and freedom of movement. Restrictions on these freedoms don't come easy.

- A very decentralized source of authority. Since the beginning of our nation, authority has been as local as possible. Though voiding this decentralization in a national emergency makes sense, it is hard to change 250 years of thinking over night. Thus, the covid response is not unified at all.

- Free press, Makes it hard to fudge numbers via creativity or outright deceit. Needless to say, Russia and China do not have this problem.

Disney Alters Theme Park Coronavirus Mask Guidelines Amid Growing Spikes

The Disney theme parks announced that it would alter its mask guidelines for the second time since reopening earlier in July.

The revised rules now state that face coverings have to be made with at least two layers of breathable material, whether they're disposable or not. They also must fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin, fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face and be secured with ties or ear loops to allow the guest to remain hands-free.

The prior revision also forbids guests from eating and drinking outside designated areas. "You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you should be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing," the official guidelines state.

Specifically, neck gaiters and open-chin triangle bandanas "are not considered appropriate and are prohibited from being worn.”

Can't wait for the 3rd revision of Disney's mask policy that provides a definition of "cloth" "mouth" and "chin" IMO

American exceptionalism is how we got in the mess we're now in. To blame that on Dr. Fauci, who is following evidence based medical guidelines, is inaccurate. Some folks keep fighting the measures needed to stop the pandemic with the result of making it spread. I don't know why people are so obsessed with going to Disney World or a friend's wedding or to Applebee's, I'm not part of the instant gratification crowd. Most people are willing to wait til next year to take another cruise or go to someone's college graduation. In the big picture, those things aren't really important, getting rid of a pandemic is. JMO

I wanted to make it clear that I wasn't blaming Dr. Fauci for anything. I was addressing his comment about how he doesn't think a nationwide lockdown is necessary.
I merely said,
does he see what is really going on out there?
because social distancing and masking isn't being complied with by all, and he says that is what needs to be done to get this under control...so if that isn't working..what do we do next?

And don't forget...."nose"

Rt COVID-19

Arizona, Texas and Florida are at 1 or below. Does that mean they can be open now?

I wouldn't think so. Their daily cases need to decline and their positive rate needs to go down. Jmo

Just reading your linked article makes me cringe. People are travelling overseas, at a time like this??

I cannot begin to tell you how many Aussies have flight credits hanging in limbo, from postponed overseas trips. Absolutely thousands of us. With probably millions of dollars involved in those flight credits.

It was one of the deals the govt made with the airlines. Basically, 'we are going to slam closed the international borders, but so you don't go bankrupt we will allow flight credits to be issued instead of refunds, if you wish'.

But, we feel it is keeping us safe so there is pretty much no whinging about it.

One question I had was if they were testing way less for influenza. This season, when one has symptoms, I’d think they’d immediately go for covid testing. If it’s negative, are they then getting tested for influenza? Speaking for myself, I’ve never been tested for influenza. I’ve rarely had it, but when I have I’ve just stayed home until well.

Covid-19 Measures Have All but Wiped Out the Flu in the Southern Hemisphere

I don't think many are ever tested for the flu. Mostly only elderly people and others who are at high risk of serious consequences.

For the rest of us, we are just told the usual things .... tylenol, fluids, rest. ('And get your flu shot next year.')

My DD (a nurse) says that if people test neg to covid and are still unwell they are told to call their GP.
She also said that people who go for unrelated blood tests are quietly having their blood checked for covid - in addition to the purpose of the tests - by the labs.

I work in a large church office and our head custodian is somewhat like this but he also believes that the strip of metal/wire to pinch around your nose is somehow a tracking device. Seriously!

He uses the plain blue and white type masks that you see everywhere nowadays and he always digs in and removes the metal so he won't be tracked. Now I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next person, but I've tried to tell him how ridiculous that is and if he's really worried about being tracked he needs to give up his smart phone, lol. He will not be swayed. People can be so weird.
Last night after work I logged into Facebook and saw that two friends had posted the meme about microchipping. I was shocked at the stupidity. So I deleted them.

I know that probably sounds harsh but I am seriously tired of the nonsense. And if it's not a very good friend, I'm just deleting at this point. This led to a complete re-do of the friends list.

I love Dr. Fauci, but is he really seeing what is going on out there? Preaching social distancing and mask wearing for months and months... it's like nagging a teenager to clean up their room, you can nag and nag but will it get done? Only if there are strict consequences perhaps...
It is just not being done.
My daughter in law has received invites to out of state wedding showers where she is the only one not going due to the virus! The other girls are all onboard.
My sister with the lake house entertained a young niece and her boyfriend (college age) this past weekend who came up from Florida of all places. I saw loads of photos of them on the boat, in the house, etc. My own parents didn't see them while they were up because of concerns, but my sister who has had a revolving door at her home this summer was all in. Then she worries about the virus after they leave on our family text group!! smh
Its a combo of people can't say no, or it happens to other people, not them, or the "eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we shall die" philosophy.
A lockdown across the nation in my eyes, will be the only thing that works unless we get a vaccine. MOO
Yup. Not being done and getting worse. I drove by a house today that had a flipping bouncy house in the front yard and about a dozen cars. I watched 60 year olds approach others with no mask. There were no masks anywhere. They seem to think that because we're rural there is no risk.

How bad does it have to get for people to take this seriously? How many people have to die? I just don't get it.

Anyone else have hippie hair?? My hair is as long as I had in high school and believe me it is too long and I am too old for hair this long. I work from home and go to Walmart once a week, no one sees me but my pups and they don't care about my hair.
Me (raises hand). I call it covid-hair. .

I've put a few folks on a 30 (or is it 60) day mute to preserve my sanity. Then when they pop up, I mute them again.

I've started self-censoring on FB. I'm terrified that people are going to see something that leads them to try to get a business shut down. I was posting pictures of a weekly event and noticed that I was no longer getting "likes" from people who used to attend, and figured that's the first step on the road to "dislike." I just can't bring myself to unfriend them yet.
