A good lawyer would depose the owner and managers, under oath, and ask whether any employee had had CoVid. Then a judge would have to rule on whether medical records could be subpoenaed. I have no clue how that would go down.

There could also be contact tracing evidence to support a case. New territory for lawyers, for sure.

Which is why I believe that there is a huge slippery slope here on personal health information, and the workplace.

Now, it is almost common knowledge when someone I work with calls in sick. Everyone knows, and immediately wants to know why they called in sick.

Even last week, geez, this poor gal called in sick for "female issues", and people wanted to be assured that she didn't have Covid. WTH?!

Heartbreaking—but I suspect many anti-maskers feel that this family’s suffering is outweighed by the importance of “defending” their (anti-maskers’) “freedom”: ‘You Do the Right Things, and Still You Get It’

There was a woman on 60 Minutes here last night, Economics Professor Gigi Foster, who thinks we should just open everything up and let the virus wreak its havoc.

"Death is part of life, and we are killing more people by keeping ourselves locked down than we are saving".
"I don't think we should be doing eradication, or elimination, but generally speaking, back to business as normal as quickly as possible."

She didn't explain her rationale for these statements ... just claimed she was a humantiarian, but I think she was showing her 'economic professor' side.

The journo asked her if people thought she was made of stone. She said that yes, some people do.

Her colleague, Adjunct Professor Bowtell, was also in that segment and countered her views. He had also helped design Australia's strategy, as a professor for Infection & Immunity.

Mask up or man up: Economics professor suggests 'business as usual' to combat coronavirus

OMG ... they are just showing on TV that Victoria has an outbreak in the neo-natal unit at the Royal Children's Hospital. Two parents, an infant, and a healthcare worker. :(

can the virus travel in water?
maybe that's a stupid question but it's all I think about with people sharing oceans/pools/splash pads

sending you condolences
With the reports that the virus has been detected in sewage, I steer clear and do not even walk near the spray from the sea just in case. (I walk on the beach every day with my dog for exercise.)

Australian state records daily virus record, warns of lockdown extension

Australian state records daily virus record, warns of lockdown extension

By Byron Kaye and Renju Jose

...
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia's Victoria state on Monday reported the country's highest daily increase in coronavirus infections, prompting the authorities to warn a six-week lockdown may last longer if people continue to go to work while feeling unwell.
The second-most populous state reported 532 new cases of the virus which causes COVID-19, the most new cases in a day since the pandemic arrived in Australia, and six more deaths, taking the state toll to 77, almost half the national death toll.

Five of the latest deaths were people in aged care facilities, the authorities said.

Until recently Australia had avoided the high COVID-19 casualty rates of other countries, but a wave of community transmission in Victoria has prompted a lockdown in Melbourne, the only Australian city to make it mandatory to wear a facemask in public.

"If you've got a sniffle, a scratchy throat, a headache, fever, then you can't go to work," said Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews in a televised news conference.

"This is what is driving these numbers up, and the lockdown will not end until people stop going to work with symptoms and instead go and get tested because they have symptoms."

Melbourne, home to a fifth of Australia's 25 million population, is halfway though a six-week ban on movement other than for work, buying food, giving or receiving healthcare, or daily exercise. Andrews added that he may announce additional measures later this week.
This virus is following the same path everywhere and seems most deadly in care homes and workplaces. We cannot seem to stop that happening anywhere, despite lockdowns, PPE and hand washing.

Victoria's virus death rate spike worse than any other country

Victoria's virus death rate spike worse than any other country

The spike in Victoria's coronavirus death rate is worse than any other country in the world, measurements by Oxford University have revealed.

The state's death toll has been doubling about every four days, as 10 people died of the virus over 24 hours yesterday.

Overnight, another six Victorians lost their lives to COVID-19, taking Victoria's total to 77.
The global comparison tool found Victoria's virus death rate increase was worse than African countries of Namibia and Lesotho, where virus deaths doubled over six and eight days.

While Victoria's death rate jumped from five to 10 fatalities over just four days, seven of the deaths were linked to aged care facilities.

Coronavirus Victoria: Baby in Royal Children's Hospital ICU with COVID-19

...
A baby at the Royal Children's Hospital aged under three weeks has tested positive to coronavirus as four cases have emerged in a cluster at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) confirmed today two parents, one patient and a healthcare worker had been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the NICU at the hospital.
"All babies, staff and parents, including any RCH staff who have spent more than two hours on Butterfly Ward since 12 July will be tested," the DHHS statement read.
More than 200 children under four have contracted COVID-19 in Victoria.
Paediatrician and Chief of Medicine at the Royal Children's Hospital, Associate Professor Tom Connell told 3AW's Neil Mitchell children were not immune to the deadly virus.
COVID-19 symptoms among babies to look out for included fever, sneezing, fast breathing and changes in mood or behaviour.

Me too. Travel is pretty much our hobby. Researching what we think are small, relatively unknown towns in the west - everything is SO expensive. Is that the case in Australia too?

Even allowing for not having to buy airfare, it looks like there’s very little room at any remotely touristic destination here in California. This is ordinary for summer, I guess but it looks like people are willing to do non-essential travel AND to pay a lot for it (more than last year, when there were more tourists).

That is surprising, I assume there’s no or very few international tourists? How do they normally fit them all in I wonder! At least that’s helping all those employed in the tourism industry, I do worry about them all.

I’m not sure about prices here, I haven’t really looked around since even state borders are shut, and I just can’t plan for anything. So wherever I go next will likely be spontaneous. Within Victoria I pretty much always go to the same place - Cape Otway down the Great Ocean Road. We stay at a camping ground there and their prices stay the same. But, with lockdown we can’t do that either. At least I’m saving money and racking up the frequent flyer points on my credit card (I usually use them the minute I have enough)!

Wow, 200 children under 4, I wasn’t expecting that. I hope they all recover ok.

Me, too. It is a little scary when such little ones are contracting the virus ... right in their early development stages.

Spain races to save tourism as cases surge

Media caption"I know it's hard for the many people who are on holiday in Spain," Care Minister Helen Whately said
Spain is fighting to save its embattled tourism industry after the UK government imposed a 14-day quarantine on all arrivals from the country.

Government officials insist the virus is under control and want certain areas to be exempt from the UK self-isolation order, including the Balearic Islands.

About 18 million Britons travelled to Spain in 2019 - about a quarter of all arrivals in the country.

But junior health minister Helen Whately has defended the quarantine.

Ms Whately told the BBC that after all the "sacrifices" made during the lockdown, the UK could not take the risk of going back to a situation of rising virus rates across the country.

Spain's rate of infection has jumped in recent days.

While the outbreak remains under control in many parts of Spain, certain parts of the country - in particular Catalonia in the north-east and the neighbouring region of Aragón - have seen a huge spike in infections.

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the country recorded 39.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitantsover the last two weeks.

The UK and neighbouring France both have a figure of 14.6 infections per 100,000 residents.

Continued at link.

I don't know what coronavirus does in the ocean, but I do know at last count there were over 200,000 different viral species in the ocean.

Noses usually catch COVID-19 first, so keep them covered with face masks, experts say

9-year-old girl becomes youngest person in Florida to die of COVID-19

“Family members said the girl did not have any underlying health conditions when she came down with a raging fever.

She was doing good at one point, and all of a sudden she had a situation with a fever,” Cain said.

BBM:
The girl’s mother took her to the hospital for treatment, but she was sent home, relatives said. She collapsed a short time later and died after her heart failed.”

(Eta: @10ofRods and friends, IANAD, but it sounds like possible MIS-C here due to both delayed response and cardiac element, imo.)

Top of the morning to ya @margarita25 and others.

Yesterday was a great day! Forcing myself get out of the house and continuing to get into my garden at least and hour each morning at sunrise these days. It's becoming harder for most all here... yet we trudge forward.

Thanks to all for keeping us all up to date.

I just had a FB neighbor that shared a link about asymptomatics that were having issues... and neighbor said "first I've heard of such"................

How do folks like us that are 1 or two months knowing what Dr. Seheult and Dr. Campbell etc say ahead of others that just follow MSM and here? (e.g. pandemic shopping by many here in February etc etc) How do y'all input when someone states such lack of knowledge we share here without appearing to be a know it all a**?

I just don't comment or even try to educate/share my thoughts on COVID anymore unless family member or two realllllllllly close friends.

Oh, what to do.

Noting, per the below broadcast, a nurse contracted both Covid and the flu (at the same time?) a few months ago. It seems he recovered but just suddenly had back and neck pain and went to the ER...Poor guy is now paralyzed from neck down...Did I hear “covid complications”? Going back for a rewatch to make sure I got the details correct / half asleep:

That is not good. I've been wondering for a while what is going to happen this fall/winter when people contract covid and flu at the same time.:(

Yeah exactly. I’m watching again.

Eta:
Yeah, I just watched it again. That’s what it says. He had both flu and covid back in May, and “recovered“. Mom says “coronavirus complications”.

Also adding to back and neck pain symptoms, “back of the head was throbbing”.

(shudder)
