In the early HIV outbreak we aerosolized Pentamidine as a prophylactic to pneumonia.

Hopeful aerosolizing drugs will be another useful therapeutic.

Sounds promising---- it is so important to have drugs that can help patients while we wait for a vaccine. It is sort of ironic that perhaps aeorosolized medication can help the lungs fight off the damage of the virus, considering contracting the virus is primarily
through aeorosolization----

“A group of more than 100 stakeholders signed a letter on Friday to Vice President Mike Pence and Dr. Deborah Birx, along with HHS Secretary Alex Azar, to reverse the policy directing hospitals to bypass the CDC.”

HHS unveils Coronavirus Data Hub, but accuracy is still in question

—-

“The letter signers, which include the American Medical Informatics Association, the American Public Health Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America and its HIV Medicine Association, among dozens of others, also asked the administration to invest in CDC data reporting and to acknowledge the critical need for data at the state and local level.

"Creating duplicate, siloed data reporting systems may make it harder for jurisdictions to get an accurate picture of the pandemic and limit visibility across neighboring states and localities," read the letter.”

[...]

“The publicization of the administration's new reporting requirements for hospitals triggered a flurry of responses across the industry. In a special bulletin, the American Hospital Association told its members to report the information to HHS as requested.

"The agency notes it will no longer ask for one-time requests for data to aid in the distribution of remdesivir or any other treatments or supplies. This means that the daily reporting is the only mechanism used for the distribution calculations," said the AHA.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of sharing data, the need for tracking of resources and patient numbers has continuously conflicted with technological capacity. It remains to be seen how smoothly hospitals will switch over to the new reporting system, with its additional required questions.

ON THE RECORD

"Reliable, comprehensive and timely data are essential to monitor and evaluate the state of the pandemic and to inform an effective response, including the distribution of essential supplies and treatment," wrote the stakeholders.

"We urge you not to advance the new data collection plan any further and instead consult with the public health and healthcare communities to discuss effective strategies for ensuring the availability of the data we all need and want to bring the pandemic under control in the U.S.," they continued.”

I looked up the study and seems they eat a lot of cabbage in Latvia and a lot of cucumbers in Greece, and the low rate of COVID-19 in both of those countries is similar, and they are looking at the high consumption of cabbage and cucumbers. I remember the cabbage soup recipe from years ago for weight loss. Might start making some cabbage soup again, especially this winter.

Well it is too bad for me because i hate cabbage- hoping perhaps they come out and say chocolate can help keep the virus away- then i would be golden!!!!!

[...]

“While alcohol does not cause or contribute to COVID-19, Polis said inebriation can lead to people disregarding social distancing requirements and therefore spreading the virus more easily.”

This doesn’t surprise me at all. What does surprise me is the number of Americans who appear to be walking around with undiagnosed Axis II disorders.

Do any of you have friends or relatives who refuse to wear a mask? Thinking it over, do these friends/family seem to have difficult personalities or perhaps low IQ? Since this seems to be an American problem, perhaps our current political division plays a role even more than psychopathology.

The ones I know are not difficult or low IQ at all. My circle and family tend to be gracious and intelligent, come to think of it. Jmo

From the second article link:

"Narcissistic people engage more in hoarding, and they do so because they are self-centered and because they are afraid of the coronavirus. However, there is a difference between collective narcissists (who are very strongly and blindly attached to their own group) and people characterized by dark traits (people who are self-centered and attached just to themselves)..."

“We do not know why exactly people with dark personalities tend to buy more supplies – because they are more greedy or they are more competitive than others or they more take care about their personal comfort due to their feelings of entitlement.”

Actually, the second psychological study quoted in the earlier post today was conducted in Poland.

I do have a close friend who doesn't wear a mask (she lives in California), but she doesn't have a difficult personality, I would say she is fiercely independent and is college-educated. In my neighborhood here in Ohio, most of my neighbors are younger and they don't wear a mask unless going into a store. They are young, professional families, they include several accountants, two pediatricians, a pharmacist, a solar energy engineer, a manager at FedEx, and other professionals. I think they feel they are young and are less at risk. But they do respect my need and my DH's need to self-isolate due to our age and high risk situation.

“On Monday, health officials reported a 9-month-old infant from Clay County had died of COVID-19--the youngest person to die from the disease in the state to date.”

[...]

“MDH epidemiologist Kris Ehresmann said the infant had symptoms with what you might expect from COVID-19, including respiratory symptoms and evidence of some inflammation in the upper airways, but they were never hospitalized.

The infant did not have any underlying health conditions, she said.

Ehresmann said they have sent specimens from the infant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which will will do additional evaluation of the case.

“We want to make sure that we’re understanding as much as we can about the physiologic changes that occurred with this infant in terms of the progression of their illness as well as we want to make sure any information that’s available on the course of this infant’s illness is added to the broader understanding of infant deaths around the country," Ehresman said.”

So sad. This makes 5 children's deaths in FL, and it's worth noting that 3 of them were under the age of 12.

I still remember when they said children don't get the virus and i knew that was a crock: i wish they hadn't said that because now a lot of people believe that and every day we have evidence (kids with the virus) that in fact children under 1o 0r 11 can and do get the virus and dont ya know the "experts" may have to back track on that statement. Just like at the beginning of this pandemic, the "experts" saying don't wear masks, the surgeon general going so far as to have said don't wear masks, they are ineffective. You cannot undo those words and part of the reluctance of people to cooperate with restrictions are mixed messages.

So it was 5 days to go from 13 to 14 million. Does anyone know how long it took to go from 14 to 15 million? It seemed faster.

Coronavirus: One death and 17 new cases confirmed in Ireland

ONE FURTHER PERSON with Covid-19 has died in Ireland today, the Department of Health confirmed this evening.

There have also been an additional 17 cases reported to health officials in Ireland today.

This brings to 25,819 the total number of cases here, along with 1,754 deaths related to Covid-19.

Dr. Ronan Glynn, the acting Chief Medical Officer, said in a statement: “I appreciate how difficult it is for people to limit their social activities and to physically distance from friends and loved ones.”

Glynn said these actions are “vital” to the effort in suppressing the disease and working towards reopening schools and healthcare services.

He added that these actions “protect our healthcare workers who have been at the frontline of this pandemic over the past six months.”

Earlier today, the Mater Hospital confirmed that a doctor who worked at the hospital has died following a battle with Covid-19.

In a statement, the hospital said that Dr Syed Waqqar Ali passed away after spending three months in ICU.
