I had a look at the FDA site and they list heart issues and other safety issues as the main reasons FDA cautions use of hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine for COVID-19

But it doesn’t read like it’s a ban or anything, it just needs to be used in right settings.

I really don’t think there’s some kind of conspiracy here. If a drug works they’ll use it IMO. Why wouldn’t they? I think if it had a 100% success rate like the Dr in the video claimed, we’d know about it from all the trials being conducted. They’d be seeing the results immediately. It would be like a miracle drug.

Presidents have no business hawking any drug. period. especially a drug that is unproven for a particular disease. period. Let the drug trials go on and it will be
determined at the end of the day whether this drug is appropriate for this disease. The people that blindly follow the president will no doubt take this drug which can cause very serious cardiac problems. The FDA and medical people decide what drugs we should be taking, not any president of this country.

Agree, just treat it like any other drug. If it works, use it, if it doesn’t then don’t. I have no doubt the drug is going through the same trials and approvals (or disapprovals) and formalities as any other potential treatment.

I find this politicizing of a drug to be insanely bizarre. jmo

I doubt that people will be able to take them on their own since they are prescription drugs.

In the beginning when it seemed health authorities were not endorsing face coverings, I already thought otherwise, that at the very least it would be helpful to me—personally—as it would help keep me from touching my mouth. And it really does help me in that regard.

It’s a bad holdover habit I have from being a nail biter for most of my life, which is embarrassing to admit. Finally quit, but I still find I fidget with my hands by touching my nails a lot or touching them to my lips.

I’m glad the messaging finally feels like they are fully endorsing masks now, but wish they would have been more clear from the beginning. They’ve been wearing them in Japan and other Asian countries, after all, for years and years. It’s not a new concept.. Why was it hard for the science experts here in the US to think of the idea of homemade, non-ppe cloth masks—why not right at the start?

I just think that standard nursing and health care training was so strong on when and when not to wear masks. A couple of my friends who were nurses were also firm in the beginning that you only wear a mask if you are the carrier. I just think the whole profession had to unravel that thinking. But oh how it would have been better earlier. I wish I new the precise moment that it went political. I really did not catch on to that issue early. When I was first going into a couple of stores very early in the am, everyone was wearing masks.... I just don't know when it really changed to be such a stupid controversy.....

I have a family member that is a HC worker, has had the virus, and posts stuff a lot about not wearing masks out and about. It isn't necessarily as political as people want to believe it is, based on what I'm seeing. We don't give people enough credit for making unwise decisions all by their selves. Jmo

No, it is not the freedom thing. We will wear masks if they are mandated, and probably even if they are advised. We are typically fairly compliant and use common sense.

We immediately closed our borders to stop any incoming spread, quarantined incomers, then went into serious lockdown to be sure. We tested, tested, tested rigorously. We enacted very good contact tracing .. many of us have the contact tracing app on our phones. I do. Then we slowly opened up, week by week a little more.

Without community spread, masks are not essential. And most of our country has no community spread.

Of course, the US has nothing but community spread so masks are essential.

The thing is, there must be an initial serious lockdown and containment for any of this to work properly. Otherwise you can't get rid of any cases that you find before they spread.

The divide here is so toxic. There are truly mean mean people here. And on our local county and town facebook pages, there is STILL plenty of talk about the whole thing being a hoax....
Florida is just so bad. Thank goodness they stopped that RNC convention. So many of us sighed one huge sigh of release.

Big day for me. First hair cut since Feb! A hairdresser my mum has been with for 20+ years came to my house in my working-from-home lunch break today. She had a mask and sterilised kit. Snip snip snip and my shoulder length straggles were gone. I think I'm now kind of channeling Tyne Daly but I quite like it, feels fresh. Mr HKP says it's given me a big lift, mood wise. He thinks its because it's good to start feeling less restricted by Covid. He could be right.

I am fortunate enough to now have my daughter living here for 5-6 months... She and boyfriend were in NYC through everything, but they both work remotely so have come down here for a transition. We practiced social distancing and masks in and outside for over 2 weeks. I had total rotator cuff surgery.... I had no idea how much I needed someone to help me post surgery.

But one of the greatest things???? She cut my hair, and I just love it so much... More than other attempts (by me and various salon folks).

i have a quick question: i am going to a pulmonologist in a few minutes for pulm. nodules; they want to do pulmonary function testing which involves blowing into a spirometer and all of that: in light of Covid i don't feel comfortable doing that. What do you all think? i don't want to be difficult or paranoid ---

I'm pretty sure you can ask for single-patient-use filters for spirometers. Just let your physician know of your concerns.

I've been following the flooding in China but I missed seeing this article explaining it's part of why we are low in PPE again. It seems absurd we've not done more to control the manufacturing and supply chain of something we so desperately need. We could have addressed this by now here in the US. If the Three Gorges Dam breaks we are all in for a world of trouble. It would effectively shut down about 15% of the world's manufacturing if I understand correctly. Not to mention the loss of lives over there. I don't know why I don't see more about their record breaking flooding in the news in the US. Wuhan went from a pandemic to flooding.

Sepsis can kill in hours. I once nursed a patient who walked into hospital with a really high fever that she had had for three hours before she sought help. She thought it was flu but then was unable to pass urine because she had renal failure, and one by one and very quickly her organs shut down and she died five hours after she was admitted. It was never establish why she got the sepsis.

My sil was in and out of the hospital for a couple of months winter before last. Hospitalized for a month at least in full. All due to early sepsis from the flu. It's frightening how close we came to losing her and she's only in her 30's.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is widespread famine worldwide later this year.

They've been predicting it. With corona and people having to stay home then combine it with plagues of locusts. It's going to be a disaster. :(

Wish I had seen your post sooner. The tube that you blow into is disposable - new one for every patient. I have a pulmonary function test at my allergist's once a year.

German officials 'very concerned' by rising cases

The head of Germany's public health agency has said he is "very concerned" by rising infections in the country.

"We are in the middle of a rapidly developing pandemic," Lothar Wieler, head of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), told reporters.

Mr Wieler said Germans had become "negligent" and urged people to wear masks and respect social distancing and hygiene rules.

In the past week the country has recorded 3,611 new infections.

The warning comes as countries across Europe grapple with new infections and the problem of travellers moving across the continent for the summer holidays.

On Tuesday Germany issued a travel warning for three regions in Spain - Aragón, Catalonia and Navarra - which have seen a recent spike in infections.

Hi: i just got back from the doc: i decided not to take that test because she had just tested a person just before me. It was a booth and the tubes as you mentioned. I just didn't feel comfortable with having someone in that booth just before me. My doc was not upset at all and she didn't pursue it further. Thanks for your response. I was thinking for all i know the person sitting in that booth could have Covid--- i think they should wait longer between patients IMO.

Then...I wonder how many of the sudden deaths (including those at home or on the way to the hospital) are due to sepsis.

And my brother, an extremely devout Catholic, Opus Dei sort, is sending me emails concerning the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. So I will continue to sock supplies, bit by bit. Thanks for heads up, gngr*snap
