I don't understand why Peter Navarro is even weighing in on this. He has no medical background whatsoever. He's an economist and a trade and manufacturing advisor. He is not remotely qualified to speak to matters of covid, medicine, or medical treatment.

Peter Navarro - Wikipedia

I think the very answer is in the title of the article.........

Checking in from NE TN. Our numbers are growing at an alarming rate. On 6/30 our numbers for the county I’m in and the bordering county were 220 combined, with the state at 43,509 cases and 604 deaths. This morning, exactly 1 month later, the 2 county combined cases are 1,490 with state at 100,822 and 1020 deaths. These 2 counties have a population of about 288,000.

TN tracks recoveries, so we’re daily able to know our active cases. Yesterday for our 2 counties, active cases were 833. Those 833 should be quarantined, but the question is – how many have they infected?

We do have local mask mandates, with no enforcement. Our governor will not issue a state mask mandate, despite a plea email from me a couple times a week. However our local healthcare system has reached out to all local governments and asked for mask mandates, which are now in effect. Our local healthcare system is giving regular updates and begging for masks, social distancing and hand washing. Yesterday they told we have 90 confirmed cases hospitalized with another 14 possible cases under investigation; 23 in ICU; 17 on ventilators. Yesterday, they had a presser that predicted by the first of September we could be over 300 – 350 patients in-house within this healthcare system.

Alarming for certain – especially since ¾ of the folks I see out and about are unmasked and still not socially distancing.

MOO

I'm sorry. I have a lot of family and friends there. Some very high risk. :(

I feel so much more at peace reading this thread after learning about the ignore option. Just click on the username of folks who repeatedly post false info, then click on “ignore “.

I believe things are going to continue getting weirder regarding Covid misinformation and dangerous, risky behavior from those that see this virus as some type of scam. Here in the USA, we’ve taken this weird “us against them” attitude instead of “we’re all in this together”regarding everything COVID.
Food insecurity has become a problem. My daughter is volunteering at a food bank in downtown Philadelphia organizing food donations. My sons girlfriend has been using $400 out of her $600 extra unemployment benefit to purchase and distribute fruits and vegetables to an organization that supplies free food out in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn free food stand is primarily used by the elderly, which surprised me. I have to admit at first I wanted to warn my sons girlfriend that she should be saving that extra money because she will likely be out of work for some time... but how can you fault her for using that money for the needy? I think of Mr. Rogers and “look for the helpers”. These are some of the young people I know and they give me hope for our future.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that while we see these ridiculous videos of people fighting over masks, there are likely far more people that care about their fellow humans then it seems like.

She sounds like a truly amazing individual! I wish I could do that. But I have to admit what extra I have goes to putting aside for my family.

Oh no! :tears:

SMDH

Dammit.

Speechless due to TOS... but I'll yell where I am

I know. I'm very saddened by the loss. And I'm saddened so many are not taking this virus seriously and recognizing their own vulnerabilities. Men seem especially prone to taking risks like this. :( I don't know what my husband or father would be doing if I had not been warning them incessantly.

I hope the sad occasion of his death results in more people taking the virus seriously, and perhaps changing some minds about masks and social distancing ..

As someone who has "taken it seriously" since February, I can assure you that it will change NOTHING for the vocal Minority.

I feel bad for everyone too. It just seems there’s no easy answers. Schools being closed is not ideal and there are consequences for that, especially for children in low socio economic situations. On the other hand we opened schools here in Victoria and one after another had to close as clusters of the virus emerged within them. What do you do? No easy answers.

A lot of my friends who have children, and have been given "work flexibility" to deal with this, are now being held to a whole new standard.

Filling out HR documents, specifying why a person needs "flexibility", times, dates that they will have dedicated to work.

It is no longer a warm, cozy, "let's help everyone out" atmosphere.

Coronavirus resurgence is moving to the Midwest after cases spike across the South and West, expert says

The resurgence in infections that has rocked the US South and West is now making its way to Midwestern states.

States including Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee are seeing an increase in the percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive, Dr. Anthony Fauci said, a development that preceded the spike in the South and West.

The White House coronavirus task force has warned Midwestern governors that the time to get ahead of the curve is now before the numbers start to skyrocket in their states, Fauci said.

"Before you know it, two to three weeks down the pike, you're in trouble," he said.

Officials in the Midwest should begin preparing for a similar spike, Fauci said.

"What we're seeing now is what actually took place a couple of weeks ago and what we're going to see a couple of weeks from now, is what we're doing now," he said.

Top White House coronavirus task force officials to be deployed to COVID hot spots

A new campaign called "Embers Strategy" will focus on reminding people to continue social distancing, wear masks and bring attention to the need for other mitigation efforts in states that have seen a recent surge in cases.

Officials including task force leader Dr. Deborah Birx, infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn and Surgeon General Jerome Adams will be sent to hotspots across the country.

Birx visited Tennessee and Virginia earlier this week, while Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will be conducting his appearances remotely so he can continue his work in Washington, D.C.

Florida reports 253 new coronavirus deaths in third straight daily record

Florida on Thursday reported 253 new coronavirus fatalities, the highest in one daily report and the third record day in a row. Statewide, 6,585 residents are now dead after contracting the virus.

The state health department also reported new 9,956 infections for a total of 461,379 to date.

Wednesday’s newly reported deaths had been a record at 216, and before that, Tuesday’s report at 186.

Florida has one of the worst outbreaks anywhere in the nation. The state also recorded its worst week from Sunday to Sunday, with 872 reported resident deaths, a weekly record.

Nearly 3.6 million people have been tested in Florida, with 52,472 more tests reported Thursday — about 2,000 below the daily July average — compared with the previous day. Over 2.5 million tests have been administered since May 31.

Some researchers say Florida’s death toll could double by Labor Day unless people devote themselves to social distancing and facial coverings.

I doubt it. I’ve actually encountered people that did not even know who he was. :(
Which makes me so sad.

I don’t think it’s possible to get the defiant ones to wear masks. Or to get those that call mask wearers “sheeple” to wear masks.

Around here -parents don’t care if their daughter hasn’t changed her social butterfly ways during a pandemic, it doesn’t concern them and nothing you say will convince them otherwise.

Thanks for sharing the uneducated/political governors and folks that are incapable of understanding the pandemic and science with all of us here! They need to have the sun shone on them for their incapacity to lead and understand this pandemic, and lean on those they have in their circle to explain the basic science.

It's so scary how many folks in leadership are now being highlighted, as you continue to do, as to their total lack of intelligence on this matter.

17 Florida Doctors Contract Coronavirus After Attending Private Party — Newsweek

“As novel coronavirus cases in Florida continue to surge, surpassing 451,000, nearly 20 health workers from the anesthesiology department at the University of Florida Health (UF Health) have contracted the virus after reportedly attending a private party.”

(Would this be considered a “Covid” party?)

“In the statement to Newsweek, UF Health said: "UF Health educates our faculty, staff and students on best practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 on and off-duty. Our goal is to minimize the spread of the illness on our campus and in our community, recognizing that it's impossible to prevent all cases given the way pandemics naturally work.”

I’m thinking they need to review their “best practices” - maybe use flash cards?

Yes it is impossible to prevent all cases, but to deliberately court the pandemic?

sortof close to home here!!! I had my massive rotator cuff surgery on the day of this party, by the surgeons and anesthesiologists from UF Health!!

I hope so too. I think it will be a wake up call to some but not all.

Johns Hopkins researchers urge US to 'reset' coronavirus approach

The scientists' policy brief said that while the US had managed to bring down cases in May by implementing stringent stay-at-home orders, the current spike in infections was overwhelming hospitals in many parts of the country and "stressing many sectors of society, from business to education to healthcare".

Hospitalisation rates for COVID-19 in most states now match or exceed numbers seen in New York City, the previous epicentre of the outbreak in the country during the peak months of March and April.

"Unlike many countries in the world, the United States is not currently on course to get control of this epidemic. It's time to reset," the brief said, outlining 10 actions required to stem the virus's spread.

Chief among them was a recommendation for the universal use of masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene and avoidance of large gatherings.

Without having these measures in place, it will be difficult to maintain control of outbreaks or turn the corner on an outbreak that is accelerating," the brief said.

"COVID-19 has reached a point in the United States where these protective actions should no longer be called a matter of individual choice, but measures of societal responsibility."

Other recommendations included bolstering supplies of personal protective gear and diagnostic testing kits at healthcare facilities. The scientists also called for better analyses of epidemiological data and scaling up contact tracing across the country.

"The coronavirus pandemic is the most serious epidemic threat to the United States in a century," the brief said.

"The United States has reached a critical point in the outbreak trajectory, and serious consideration needs to be given to ways in which the response can be improved. The time is now to move forward to reduce transmission and save lives."

The brief echoes the advice of many health experts who say the US outbreak could be brought under greater control if guidelines to maintain physical distancing and wear masks in public were enforced nationwide.

Experts meanwhile say the new surge in cases is hampering the country's economic recovery effort.

"We have seen some signs in recent weeks that the increase in virus cases and the renewed measures to control it are starting to weigh on economic activity," the chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, said on Wednesday.

How about this? How about if a recently retired chemist and physician agrees with DeWine? Are they incapable of understanding the pandemic and science with all of us here? I tend to agree with them and DeWine. Do you think that DeWine isn't receiving recommendations from the Ohio Health Department and many physicians? DeWine is my governor and I'm proud of how he's handled COVID in my state. Please stop badmouthing him. Your opinion of him is not a fact. JMO.
