Apart from people over 65, there are other groups entitled to the flu shot for free in Australia.

They include :

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over, for free under the National Immunisation Program (NIP)
people aged 6 months to under 5 years, for free under the NIP
people aged 6 months or over who have medical conditions that mean they have a higher risk of getting serious disease, for free under the NIP
pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy, for free under the NIP
people aged 65 years or over, for free under the NIP

My husband, kids and I all get our flu shots at Publix. 4 different insurances, no cost, and if you go early-ish, you get a $10 gift card. I thought insurance had to pay for vaccines, but you'd surely think they'd want to, as that would cost them less than a doc visit plus Theraflu.

All that changed and I became a new person who actually got to enjoy winter for a change and rarely ever got sick anymore.

I'm like you. I've never had a flu shot. I don't get the flu either. Well, let me rephrase I haven't had it for over 25 years.

My husband was like that. He would get the flu, bronchitis, pneumonia one after the other. Since he started getting vaccinations, that stopped. It was miserable for him.

Latest update for South Carolina shows fewer deaths again and a lower percentage positive. Now if will just keep going that direction!

The scary thing about this disease is the randomness of who ends up in the hospital. We have seen healthy people, who were not old, fat, or had any other health issues die from Covid. There must be some cause for this.

Dodgers left-hander David Price ripped Major League Baseball on Monday afternoon, calling out the league after a coronavirus outbreak within the Marlins caused two games to be postponed.

“Now we REALLY get to see if MLB is going to put players health first,” Price tweeted after at least 13 members of the Marlins tested positive for COVID-19. “Remember when Manfred said players health was PARAMOUNT?! Part of the reason I’m at home right now is because players health wasn’t being put first. I can see that hasn’t changed.”

Last year my husband and a handful of workers jobs were ended. Missed the flu shots and no more insurance. It was hard during that time to get a low expense flu shot. We got one at the county courthouse each for $52.00. Thankfully my parents helped us out with part. We told our situation of insurance and the insurance my husband bought would not cover they said. That was a horrible time and those shots can be expensive for some. We tried other places for coverage and cost first.

I have wondered about this issue for some time- there is just so much we don't know about this evil virus- i hope animals can't pass it to people----that would be terrible.

From what I understand from the Gov.uk link I think they are researching it behind the scenes to have found these cases in Europe. MOO.

Probably not. I want the covid one, though. At my age, I'm eventually gonna fall apart.

I recommend the flu shot. They usually include the strains from the previous winter. My employer used to give us it and when I left work I became a First Responder and continued to have it. Now I am over 65 I continue to get it free on the NHS. I must have been having it for at least 20 years if not more.

I have never had a flu shot: i admit to being afraid of having one. I recall vividly in the 70's the flu vaccine was said to cause Guillan Barre Syndrome (sp)--- that was it for me, plus i have allergies to so many things, i just don't get the flu or pneumonia vaccine either-- but i am considering it this year- i just don't know

All sports that think they are going to have a season are out of their minds: what are they thinking? it is absurd to think you can put a bunch of men together - in a clubhouse, being together in other situations, and think you can carry on for a full season. I think people are too stupid to understand the concept of what a pandemic really is. Well the virus does not care who it infects and now baseball is feeling the reality of an extremely contagious virus. It seems too many people in our country want to try and live normally, pretend everything is dooable--- so okay, let's have our baseball, football, and of course let's put our kids in schools- what could possibly go wrong?

Oh yes, the asymptomatic people are doing some spreading of flu. Ask any teacher.

I didn't get any for years (stopped the shots a few years back, started taking Vitamin D at 10,oooIU instead). The only time I've been sick in the last 5 years is due to a man literally coughing and sneezing all over me from the seat behind me in an airplane. It was awful. Now of course, I would wear a mask at all times in an airport or airplane, but I was stupid and never gave it a thought. Didn't even have hand sanitizer with me. 12 hour flight. I'm surprised my DH didn't get it, it looked like the man's traveling companion also had it.

I'm going to get flu and pneumonia shots this year, both to prevent dementia and to boost my immune system. And still take the Vitamin D (6000-10,000IU at this point in time).

Here's what I'm arguing with people about, on this issue (on FB, ha). I have friends who think because "the sport is played outside" there's very little risk. They are probably right about that part.

It's the freakin' locker rooms and showers that are the problem, obviously. Totally agree with you - there's NO way that you can have a bunch of men in a locker room and not have laughter, yelling, talking, teasing and all other manner of breathing any infectious material into the air. And such rooms are always enclosed. And often very near restrooms, where there's further chance of aerosolized particles.

TV news keeps focusing on how the pro teams are using special social distancing tactics during practice - but that's very unlikely to be wear people are getting it (and they are surely still getting it). It's the locker rooms! And restrooms.

Being an athlete has no bearing on whether a person will get the disease. @mickey2942 rightfully wonders why some apparently healthy people have such a poor course (and die). There are at least two different gene patterns that may be associated with this. One causes high cholesterol and high lipids in the blood, so usually those with that gene are known to have an underlying health issue. But the other one is not associated with any health issues - nor is it clearly known that this particular gene is the "cause" of the severe CoVid in some healthy, athletic people.

We'll know someday, though. Whether the very healthy young athletic types will get tested for such genes remains to be seen.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WAVE) - As Kentucky continues to fight a surge in COVID-19 cases, Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered freestanding bars to be closed and restaurants to operate at 25% of their dine-in capacity.

The order goes into effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday and remains in place for two weeks until August 11.

Restaurants with outdoor seating will be able to operate at 100% capacity provided they follow social distancing guidelines.

The governor also made a recommendation that all Kentucky schools wait until the third week of August to start any in-person classes.

Beshear recommends schools not start in-person classes until 3rd week of August as bars are set to close

That 2 week out of state quarantine must not be working so well.
