I have to agree. There are so many nuts walking around. I also wonder about what motivates someone, who is concerned enough about Covid to film other people, to leave the house in the first place. I'm starting to hear a lot of that around here - the attitude is that if people are so worried then they should just stay home. It's a very strange thought process that must make folks leave the safety of home to confront others who feel safe leaving home. I'm sure many books will be written!

well, i am very concerned about contracting the virus as an older person: however, I do leave the house to go grocery shopping primarily- my husband golfs---other than that we stay pretty close to home: we both wear masks when we go out: i would never confront someone who didn't wear a mask or try to take their picture: it is very foolish of someone to do that in this hostile environment.

From ABC affiliate WJXX in Jacksonville:

Belligerent Customer Coughs On Patron At Jacksonville, Fla. Store

"Heather Sprague was in Jacksonville's St. Johns Town Center when she began recording an irate customer who was having a tantrum screaming at staff at Pier 1. Sprague, a cancer patient, said the customer was with two children. The woman, when she noticed she was being recorded, walked up to Sprague and coughed on her."

That 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 would’ve been on the floor in one punch if she did that to me or came near my kids.

Sitting on my hands

Next person she coughs on may not be so kind.

Freaking ridiculous and disgusting. This kind of stuff makes my BLOOD BOIL.

Checking out for a while. Be safe all.

South Carolina numbers are a tiny bit better - wish they'd continue downward!

SC announces 1,110 new COVID-19 cases, 27 more deaths

"DHEC says the percent positive from the 7,306 tests reported to them statewide Saturday was 15.2% (not including antibody tests). When daily case numbers are high and the percent positive is high, that indicates more virus spread in the community, DHEC said."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - --

Is South Carolina plateauing? I'll take it for now - maybe the coming storm Isaias will keep people off the beach for at least a couple of days.

Is SC‘s curve plateauing? It’s too early to tell, but masks help.

"For the past couple of weeks, South Carolina has seen new daily COVID-19 cases fluctuate around an average between one and two thousand. However, is this an indication that cases are trending in the right direction in the Palmetto State?

University of South Carolina biostatistician Stella Self has been closely examining the data from DHEC. "It's too early to say we are going down, I have a little more confidence in saying we are plateauing but that's too early to say for sure," Self said.

She said the case numbers she was seeing from about six weeks ago scared her, so she is optimistic because those sharp increases didn't continue. She thinks one of the reasons there was a shift in the trend is because some municipalities enacted mask ordinances."

You probably won't believe this but I have saved at least £500 a month on credit card interest alone and have more than halved the total that I owe. I began by listing my balances in order of the % monthly interest I was paying. I began paying more off on those with the highest interest %. As I reduced them I was offered additional 0% deals which I also used to reduce the other balances. I began this more than a year ago and have more than halved what we owed from £46k to £18k, reducing monthly interest from £550 per month down to only £16 per month now. Obviously the more interest I have saved the more capital I have been able to pay off. When our lockdown began in March we owed £23k and now it is down to £18k and manageable.

Congratulations t.
I know how hard it is to save $ in this economy, yet alone to pay off substantial debt. Must be a great load off your mind.
Nice.

While I wouldn't confront or film anyone not wearing a mask, because I'm a wimp and avoid confrontation at all cost, I have to say that the woman went into Pier 1 because she wanted to or needed something there (or she wanted to check out the clearance, as Pier 1 stores are closing), and she had as much right to go into that store as the coughing jerk. And she masked up and was taking precautions.

And MY attitude is that those who are so unwilling to wear masks that they are defensive enough to resort to violence when confronted are the ones who should stay home, so that they don't have to see the people who do, and they don't have to get mad when they are asked to wear a mask.

Thank you, I had forgotten about salt. What I started to accumulate in Jan was a spring and summer stash (which worked well for a quarantine that started in March). I have quite a flock of chickens (eggs only) and some non-perishables. I do have outside cooking equipment (a smoker, 3 grills and a fire pit) but I don’t know how helpful that is in January temps. I like to know I have plenty for my household and extended family if they lose power and need help. I know I overprepare but I’m ok with it.
In addition to food: sidewalk de-icer/salt, laneway markers, winter wiper fluid, check your winter clothing to see if you need anything repaired or replaced, batteries in all sizes, postage stamps, canning jars and lids, freezer bags, ... etc.

Should this not be considered assault and battery? Terrorism? Something illegal? The 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 should be arrested, spend some jail time.
H.S. was more in control than I’d have been. I mean, I don’t know for sure, but as stressed out as I’ve been lately, probably would not have been good.

ETA: On the other hand I wouldn’t be recording a complete stranger in a public place either. What’s with all that anyway? Why do people do it?

The video is actually evidence of assault if they were able to track her down to arrest and charge her.

Here's a bit of an update.

Jacksonville mother could pursue charges against woman who coughed on her at Pier 1

"The woman, a 58-year-old Fernandina Beach resident, was identified in the report, but News4Jax is withholding her name in this story because she has not yet been charged with a crime.

Sprague, a brain tumor patient who was wearing a mask at the time of the incident, told police that she created an incident report with Pier 1 that day but did not want to make a knee-jerk reaction and call the police right away. She also told police she has not been feeling well since the incident.

The JSO investigator issued a State Attorney’s Office Referral Card for battery and explained the process to seek a warrant and the case was suspended.

It’s unlear if Sprague wants to pursue charges.

Sprague did not wish to speak personally with News4Jax.

She said on her Facebook page:

“I did not speak, react, or engage. Simply stood to document the behavior. When bullies are faced with accountability they must acknowledge the unacceptability of their actions. Within 30 seconds of filming her tirade was done and she left the poor staff in peace.”

Sprague added that she was “off to find a COVID test.”

Good to hear!
On another note, the video taker is a brain tumor patient and the mother of ten ???
10. Which is why she had the patience she had.

BTW, she wasn't filming because of masks, she was filming because:
she saw the woman upbraiding employees while trying to return an item she didn’t have in her possession.

So not even a mask thing, just a she's-an-incredible-jerk thing.

I think she explained her reason for so obviously recording the incident (not trying to conceal that she was recording it).

"It took 30 seconds to end 15 minutes of aggressive harassment."

Coronavirus: Major incident declared in Greater Manchester after COVID-19 rise

A major incident has been declared in Greater Manchester amid a rise in coronavirus infection rates.

Gold command meetings of senior figures from the police, local authorities and other agencies have been taking place over the weekend, according to the Manchester Evening News.

A statement to Sky News from assistant chief constable Nick Bailey, chairman of the Local Resilience Forum, said: "Recognising that there are multiple localities across Greater Manchester seeing rises in infection rates, the group reviewed learning from other recent areas, including Leicester, and its own learning from across the partnership, and have taken the decision to declare this a major incident in order to respond as effectively as possible.

"This will enable us to maximise the capability of agencies across Greater Manchester, including additional resources if required, to instigate a prompt and positive change in direction.

"It is part of our desire to protect the population of Greater Manchester and provide them with the highest levels of assurance that agencies are doing all they can to reduce infection rates and bring Greater Manchester back to as near a state of normality as current times allow."

Major incidents are often declared after a terror attack or major flood and mean a region can access extra national resources if necessary.

If the police need extra help in enforcement, the MEN reports, it is understood the army could be drafted in to support them.

60 Minutes tonight did a segment on the security breach that caused this whole mess in Victoria, which is now seeping out into other states.
(We have a couple of positive cases from Victoria here in my state now, ones that we have contained, contact traced, and hope that we have caught in time.)

I know that some have questioned how we know what went on - the security guard who slept with a quarantined person, the poor PPE and training, the hiring of inadequate security staff - so I thought I would put this 60 Minutes video from tonight here in case anybody wants to see how this happened.
