I had to ask a woman would she repeat something, in a business, and she asked me to repeat something several times.
And neither of us was wearing a mask.

I think that I have identified that I may be a bit deaf. I have no idea what people are saying to me when I cant see their mouths and lips.
I am going to have a hearing test.

Funny you should mention about practising wearing one at home. That is exactly what I was thinking of doing.
And no I just put it straight on. I did pull it to expand it, which was probably the wrong thing to do. It just looked so tiny.
It really did cover up a lot of my face, maybe it was too big.
Anyway I've got 49 left to practise with

Did you pinch the nose wire to fit close to the contours of your nose? I think the fit of the mask is important if you’re experiencing that hard-to-see feeling. I don’t have that experience.

Only the US seems to be so very concerned with the efficacy of tests.

Maybe the US has useless tests if they are wrong 30% of the time and it takes 15 days to get a wrong result. That's fighting the virus with hands tied behind the back. Why doesn't CDC actually work to get this sorted out ? They are supposed to be controlling this disease and that is never going to happen with false negatives wandering around in the community.

Not according to the OP. Orange County gave $1,000 only. That wouldn't even pay a month's rent. This has gone on for 6 months now. $1,000 works out at $40 a week. :-(

Nearly 300,000 Americans could be dead from COVID-19 by December 1, University of Washington health experts have forecast, although they said 70,000 lives could be saved if people were scrupulous about wearing masks.

The prediction by the university's widely cited Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation comes as top White House infectious disease advisors warned that major US cities could erupt as new hot spots if officials there were not vigilant with counter-measures.

The US death toll stands at over 159,000, the most of any country in the world, with 4.8 million known cases.

The IHME said infections were falling in former epicentres of Arizona, California, Florida and Texas, but rising in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon and Virginia.

Ohio Gov. DeWine tests negative for COVID-19 hours after testing positive

Great news. Hope the tests are reliable ones. It sounds like they are. From the link -


"The second test was a PCR test administered that afternoon, which his office said was "extremely sensitive, as well as specific, for the virus." His wife, Fran DeWine, and staff members also tested negative.

"The PCR tests for the Governor, First Lady, and staff were run twice," the statement said. "They came back negative the first time and came back negative when they were run on a second diagnostic platform."

His office said the PCR test was different than the rapid antigen test administered earlier in the morning as part of the standard protocol required to meet with Trump.

"We will be working with the manufacturer to have a better understanding of how the discrepancy between these two tests could have occurred," the statement added.

The PCR test looks for the specific RNA for SARS-CoV-2 -- which is the virus that causes COVID-19.

"We feel confident in the results from Wexner Medical Center," his office said of the PCR test. "This is the same PCR test that has been used over 1.6 million times in Ohio by hospitals and labs all over the state." "

As a small business owner in the United States of America.
I am astounded, by the lack of media coverage pertaining to our stories.
It's as if we're invisible.
Yet, we "little hard working bees" are essential to the American way of life. Moo.
Hey. 99% of us are on it. We've invested hundreds of dollars on PPE, we're complying with everything the CDC requires to operate the businesses that puts food on our tables.
None of the thousands of stories of real Americans fighting hard against this virus, get covered by our journalists.
Think about it.

Restaurants seem to be one of the small businesses that get covered a lot, both the ones which have closed and those which were able to adapt and continue their businesses.

It sounds like your mask is causing some disorientation so perhaps just put it on in the shop. I had to wear one in the hairdressing salon the other day for 4 hours. (They had a lot of work to do ) I found mine kept riding up my face towards my eyes.

Thanks, yes that is what I have decided to do, wear it in the shops and other places.
And figure out the road crossing if we're ordered to, or if I feel the need.

And will practise at home. I now think the mask is way too big for my face so will look into that.
Wow 4 hours, I am impressed.
Come to think of it mine kept moving up near my eyes too. Someone mentioned a metal bit near your nose. I didn't do the moulding over my nose, maybe I should have.

US warning as people die from drinking hand sanitiser

A CDC team described the cases of 15 adults in Arizona and New Mexico hospitalised for methanol poisoning after consuming alcohol-based hand sanitisers between May and June.
The CDC is not sure why people might drink hand sanitiser.

The researchers found 15 people, ages 21 to 65, were admitted to a hospital after ingesting alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
Six developed seizures while in the hospital and three were discharged with new visual impairments, the researchers found.
One patient, a 44-year-old man, said that he drank hand sanitiser in the few days before seeking medical care, according to the CDC paper.
The man was hospitalised for six days for acute methanol poisoning and when he was discharged, he went home with almost complete vision loss.
Four of the adults in the CDC report died.

Coronavirus: Record daily jump in infections takes India's COVID-19 cases above 2m

India has reported a record daily jump in coronavirus cases, taking the total number of infections in the country above two million.

On Friday, officials confirmed that 62,538 new cases had been identified.

India is the third worst-affected country in the world behind the US and Brazil.

According to India's health ministry, only a third of the 2.03 million cases are currently active, with the country recording its highest-ever number of recoveries on Thursday.

The first registered COVID-19 case was detected in Kerala on 30 January this year. It took 173 days to reach a million cases on 16 July.

Since then, it has taken just 21 days to reach two million - an indication of how quickly the virus has spread across the country.

India now has the fastest growth rate of contagion at 3.1%.

More than 41,500 deaths have been reported so far. However, the government is keen to suggest that India's fatality rate of 2% is lower than what has been seen in other countries.

Nevertheless, the trajectory of the virus continues to show an upward trend across all states.
