It's rather hard to believe that the average age of riders is 23. I wonder if that figure is wrong. My guess, from looking at some of the pictures in the links above, is that the average age of riders is closer to 50.

There are a few sites that would agree with you .... one place is the official Sturgis rally website.

"Average age of attendees in 2019 was 54."
City of Sturgis Holds Post-Rally Summit

And in 2015, there were wonderings about how long the rally would continue to be as huge an event, as the attendees were aging.

"Sturgis Police Chief Jim Bush notes that the average age of a biker attending the Sturgis rally is between 50 and 60 years old and that younger people are not buying motorcycles at the same rate their elders did in previous decades."

Yes, I must live a very deprived life. I have never had a manicure in my life. I suspect she means to get those stick on nails that look like bird beaks to me.

LOL I had to laugh. Those are horrible. But I lead a similarly deprived life and it's just my personality type. I've never once even wanted a manicure. But one of my teen girls has taken to giving me facials during the pandemic now. Those are nice and relaxing and I don't have to leave my house or talk to strangers.

I’m guessing the virus might increase the ebb of this age group of participants at least a tiny bit

:)Oh that’s a smart idea

Coronavirus: Victoria to home-test vulnerable people as 322 new cases and 19 deaths reported

People with disabilities and chronic health conditions will no longer have to try to find transport to get to Covid-19 testing clinics after the Victorian government announced home-testing for vulnerable people.

The state’s health minister, Jenny Mikakos, said it was challenging for those who are sick or disabled to get to a testing station, particularly with strict lockdown measures in place and with government advice discouraging use of ride share and public transport.

“So we are starting a call-to-test program that will enable someone to call our coronavirus hotline.” Mikakos said. “They will be able to get tested within a 48-hour period. It is a free service and will be available throughout Victoria. The way that people will be able to access this is through the coronavirus hotline. There’ll be a triage there, and with a GP referral, we will come to you.”

Well - it varies. California hasn't been doing it, even in the year round schools. They are trying, but about 40% of reported cases remain "unknown" in terms of origin. It's really hard to contact trace at a school, btw. Many reasons.

California needs to work that out, I think. There's lot of things the California schools can do regarding tracing in their system. But we both know that.

Bunker sales surge amid coronavirus pandemic

A Queensland underground bunker company says it's been "overwhelmed with inquiries" as Victoria tries to bring its second wave of COVID-19 under control.
Some Queenslanders, concerned by the possibility of a second wave in their homestate, have made the $20,000+ investment in backyard 'doomsday' bunkers.

Builder Nick Bayard, from Underground Bunkers Australia, has turned his trade into constructing the survival homes which can boast multiple beds, a full-size fridge and CCTV.

Coronavirus: Outbreak among staff at Tesco Extra supermarket in Swindon

There has been an outbreak of coronavirus among staff at a Tesco supermarket in Swindon.

The company said a small number of its employees at the Extra store in Ocotal Way had been infected with the virus in recent days, and those who had tested positive were self-isolating at home.

No delivery drivers have been infected and the shop remains open.

The outbreak comes days after around 51 workers at an Iceland warehouse tested positive for COVID-19 in Swindon.

How do these people get their jobs? Minnetonka High School has the second largest enrollment of any high school in Minnesota.

Minnetonka Public Schools Superintendent Dennis Robertson said at an Aug. 6 school board meeting that there are "more risks to our students and our families from the flu than there are from the virus."

Yep. They could ebb future rallies, especially if they get COVID-19.

What some companies will do to promote their product sheesh

Um, what is wrong with someone's house for a pandemic, no need to go underground?

Virginia schools do a good job of contact tracing and notification to parents. Even when my 40 yo daughter was in school.

VA schools and daycare centers send information home, call parents in the class of infected child, and media will broadcast outbreaks. Usually the "MOM Squads' are driving the earlier warning. I've even gotten the late night call, so in so class has lice, hand foot and mouth, and especially rotavirus.

For years Virginia has closed individual schools, for flu, whopping cough, hand foot and mouth, norovirus, and other highly transmitted diseases. We've not closed schools for head lice, but we are notified.

Even in our larger cities, parents become aware early on, the mom network is on it !!!! Kids come home and tell ...so in so is sick, has lice, and some parents are active in schools, socialize together and become aware early.

Moo..I think word gets out in schools before even the health dept becomes involved. Mom squads are the best surveillance mechanism schools have, beats, HD and CDC hands down for rapid response.

Actor Antonio Banderas tests positive for coronavirus

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas has tested positive for coronavirus on his 60th birthday.

"I want to make public that today... I am forced to celebrate my 60th birthday (in) quarantine after having tested positive for the COVID-19 disease, caused by the coronavirus," he said on Twitter.

"I'd like to add that I'm feeling relatively well, just a bit more tired than usual, and confident that I will recover as soon as possible.

This is surprising, especially after reading how many children have tested positive in the US. If they are not catching it in school, then where are they catching it? (Eg. There was the Georgia summer camp incident where there was a lot of transmission.)

Little evidence of school transmission - minister

"There is little evidence of coronavirus being transmitted in schools, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has said.

Mr Williamson said the government was being guided by the best science as it accelerated plans to reopen schools to all pupils in England next month.

Government advisers have warned the nation may have reached the limit of what can be reopened in society safely.

But Mr Williamson suggested an upcoming study would support the government's position on reopening schools.

His comments come after Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the reopening of schools - after months without in-person education - was the "national priority" of the government.

The prime minister, who is expected to visit a school later on Monday, is understood to have made it clear that schools should shut last in any future local lockdowns, after businesses including shops and pubs."

Continued at above link.

Here's another article with some UK numbers and info.

Could reopening schools spread coronavirus?

"Children are at extremely low risk of becoming ill from the virus.

Adults - and particularly older adults - are far more likely to be seriously ill and die from complications.

The largest study done so far, involving more than 55,000 hospital patients, found that only 0.8% were under the age of 19.

Half of all the people with confirmed coronavirus who were admitted to critical care units in England, Wales and Northern Ireland were 60 or older as of 31 July, according to a research charity.

But more than three-quarters were over 50 and fewer than 10% were younger than 40.

Children often have "milder disease than adults", according to Prof Adilia Warris, a paediatric infectious diseases specialist at the University of Exeter, and deaths have been rare.

There have been some extremely rare cases of children developing an inflammatory syndrome similar to Kawasaki disease, and scientists are exploring a possible delayed immune response to coronavirus.

Can children pass on coronavirus to others."

Continued at above link.

My calculations regarding the 55,000 hospital patients studied would work out as the following percentages.

50% age 60 and older
25% age 50-59
15% age 40-49
9.2% age 19-39
0.8% age under 19

Your calculations are very similar to state and even down to county levels in Virginia.

City of Adelaide first in SA to trial iTouch contactless pedestrian button

The City of Adelaide is the first Council in South Australia to trial iTouch – a new contactless pedestrian push button control.

Supplied by Australian company Aldridge Traffic Systems, the units are being trialled at the pedestrian actuated signals on Melbourne Street in North Adelaide from today.
The trial follows all City of Adelaide pedestrian crossings being automated during the COVID-19 pandemic, with many of these crossings since returning to normal operation at Council’s request.
