Clark County bars to reopen Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

A piece of good news, finally. Heading to Laughlin in a few weeks and was dreading having no bar top machines.

I see that Nevada has dropped off the NY/NJ/CT travel advisory list now. Good news for Nevada people. :)

Victoria's covid rate has dropped dramatically. Only 8 days until Melbourne's lockdown is eased.

Victoria has recorded just 14 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, marking the lowest overnight rise in three months.
(Victoria is now under a looser stage 3 lockdown)
For metropolitan Melbourne, the 14-day rolling average has dropped to 36.2.
(Cases to be between 30-50 for 14 days for stage 4 lockdown to be eased. A goal it seems will be reached, judging by this week's figures.)
Victoria records just 14 new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours

However, a 'large' freedom rally - probably 100 or so people imo - is planned for today in Melbourne. Location not to be announced until 30 mins prior, as per this morning's Ch7 TV News.
Not sure why they are bothering or what they think they will achieve. There are just 8 days left of lockdown. Why on earth would they risk spreading the virus at this late stage and potentially extending that lockdown? SMDH
I truly think they have nothing better to do on a weekend. It is so self-defeating. And so offensive to the efforts of five million Melbournites.

But such a good opportunity for 5 mins of fame, as pics of worked-up protesters have their photo zoomed around the world, screaming "leave me alone" at the attending police.
Just another sunny weekend in Melbourne.

IMO

I apologize if this was posted already, but I don't remember seeing it.

CDC says asymptomatic people who were in contact with an infected person should get tested and quarantine for 14 days—reversing guidance released last month that said testing might not be necessary for people without symptoms. CDC reverses testing guidelines after report of interference

Getting caught up on news. I missed this, too, from yesterday.

CDC Director Redfield this week told the Senate that a vaccine likely wouldn't reach most Americans until late 2nd -3rd quarter of 2021. Said "very limited supply" would likely be available this year, and would need to be prioritized to first-responders or those most at-risk.

Trump claims a different timeline.

Trump says all Americans will have coronavirus vaccine by April, at odds with CDC timeline

I just watched the Tour de France time trials, and oh my, the crowds just gave me the shivers. Most people were wearing masks, but plenty wore them under their chins and shouted and cheered without a thought of covering their mouth.

Tomorrow is the ride into Paris. Will this be a superspreader event?

Oh yeah.

Just what they don't need. They are already setting daily records for new cases at the moment.

French health authorities have reported 13,498 new COVID-19 cases, setting another record in daily infections since the disease started to spread in the country.

No kidding. The Tour has been going on for three weeks. I wonder if their public health officials will trace cases to the Tour, or if tracking the source will be a mare's nest like Sturgis.

Of course, now everyone doesn't trust the CDC (because of the interference). I was reading a thread on another forum, where young doctors (residents) were saying that formerly, in an infectious disease setting, the CDC was their go-to resource.

Now, they feel they have to do research on their own and that there's no main clearing house. It's not something that the states have run in the past, nor could a state level initiative do what the CDC has done for decades.

Let's hope this means CDC is back on track (their leader now seems bent on getting the scientific view across, even if there is "interference."

@10ofRods

One of your posts mentions wearing goggles on vacation. I'm curious about what kind of goggles you wear and do you wear them all the time like going to the store?

Also what do you think about goggles as a way to help protect people from the virus?

Dr. Fauci says they protect - based on research that shows the eyes are another entry way into the body.

However, I don't know that there's tons and tons of research on this. People who don't wear glasses might want to get clear lenses or blue blockers for work places that involve being around people indoors.

Flushing toilets in public restrooms may be a hazard, goggles are supposed to help.

Here are a couple of articles:

Potential modes of COVID-19 transmission from human eye revealed by single-cell atlas

I don't mind posting the links at all - if it helps people feel more protected. I know a lot of us are super-cautious.
