So.

Again, I read here every day, but don't post often. I'm a quiet observer.

I have posted at least twice that I think I had Covid at the beg. of January.

My hair has thinned big time. I still. STILL have a cough. My left ear still has fluid in it. I have sharp pains ( I dunno if this is a thing) like when you eat something cold? That sharp pain in your head? I have them in my feet and hands mostly...but sometimes in other places. I have shortness of breath. I have major anxiety (which I had before so that doesn't count). Also, I'm in pre menopause ...I know TMI but it's important. Have not had a period since the beg. of Jan....but have had one a week ago.

What are people stocking up on now? I have read that you guys think it will get bad again. Any lists of of things I should buy would be most welcome.

And, as always, thanks for all of the smart people that post here. (((hugs)))

You are definitely not alone... I know others who thought they had it early (NY and NJ especially) but by the time they got tests, they were negative. They did not want to pay for antibody tests...but a couple of them still have symptoms they cannot shake.

I now we spend most of the time talking about the numbers, and perhaps the lowering of the viral load, but we can't lose sight of potential long term symptoms. Maybe not a "killer" virus for some, but still could be a life shortener.

APPLIANCES are very hard to get right now.
Bicycles are getting harder to get.
Anything that is manufactured overseas could be held up.

Gonna need to stop using the phrase, "avoiding it like the plague." Apparently, humans don't avoid the plague.

HA HA.... oh how true this is!

Maybe people need to start pointing these kinds of people to what is happening around the world?

I just don't understand why they don't look outside of your own country. Look elsewhere for affirmation of the pandemic. If they are not believing what they hear is happening in the US.

The whole world is not in on a big hoax.
There are independent news sources (BBC, CBC, UNICEF FB page) that will show them the news of the world.
This! The entire planet is not perpetuating a hoax!

In my immediate area, many are frustrated and (what’s the phrase they are using?) “pandemic-exhausted”? I am hearing over and over “I’m starting to think this whole thing is a hoax”. When I ask why.... “Well do you personally know anyone who’s actually had it? Not in the news or online. I mean a friend, family member, work associate, etc”. When I list the 3 people I personally know who had it, they say 3 is a ridiculous number to cause the country this financial devastation. Then several people break out the old “I was talking to a nurse/paramedic I know and they said there are only 2 people in the hospital right now with Covid/yeah but they test you for Covid every day that you’re hospitalized and every time you still test positive, they count that as a positive case for the day”. I stay home except for going to work and an occasional stroll outside in open areas. I always have a mask for every person in my car plus an extra. I’d rather be home at this point because it’s frankly exhausting to listen to people jabber about how hoaxy this is rather than read a few current articles and buckle the he11 down and work together. The selfishness astounds me. It really does.

I’ve been hearing the same. And I tell them “yes I personally know people who have died.”

An aside: My surgical nurse neighbor is currently isolated due to work exposure early this week.

That still doesn’t stop the “flu kills more” or “it’s not that many” ...

My main culprit is my MIL who now refuses to wear a mask and is pushing every boundary. (She seriously thinks she will get a holiday invite?! Ha!)

anyway I just sent her this as a reminder that it is still a problem in her community. She shops st the grocery right next door...
For some reason, she believes she’s too special to get it. I mean she’s 70+ with hypertension, high cholesterol, surely she’s immune.

Update: 57 coronavirus cases reported at Countryside Manor; one new death in county

back to lurking... thanks everyone for all your info and thoughts.

Goodness. I wonder if they sent a strike team in. As far as I know, they can still request one. :(

Another 837,000 Americans filed for unemployment claims last week

Continued claims, which count workers who have filed for benefits for at least two consecutive weeks, stood at 11.8 million on a seasonally adjusted basis.

The slowing pace of the decline in initial jobless claims is another piece of evidence that the economic recovery is running out of steam.

Thursday's Labor Department report on jobless claims is just the latest in this week's report card on the labor market: the government's jobs report — the last before the election — is due on Friday.

Economists expect 850,000 jobs were added back in September, bringing the unemployment rate to 8.2%, down from 8.4% in August.

Very good article. Thanks for finding it.

Long Covid--this is a great way to explain it. The people I know who have had it are different ages...but the younger ones really have some of these outcomes as well. Especially the fatigue.

The article did not bring up the severe depression that is as physiological as the other symptoms.

A lot of my friends (mostly, but not all, in retirement age) are most worried about contracting the disease because of the following issues, that the article explained well.

She said, “We were all focusing on the lungs and respiratory symptoms to begin with, but the virus attacks the same receptor that is in the heart too, not just the lungs. Many patients who have had heart failure in the past who have now been very unwell with covid symptoms have sustained arrhythmias, meaning their hearts were beating very fast whilst they were ill, and they then went on to develop heart failure.

Heart Failure has so many attributes and conditions. That is why I consider Long Covid to be the Life Shortener.

At the bottom of the article was a note that stated what sources had quoted the article and there were many that did. You can go back to the main article to see all the sources including social media but the link below should take you to the sources also, where 12 MSM were discussing it. Maybe depression is mentioned in some of them.

Not everyone is a good critical thinker. You can’t use logic and facts to argue against a person who didn’t use logic and facts in the first place.

Sadly, there are no common media sources sending out consistent factual messages. People can choose to use Limbaugh or Drudge as their only “news” sources. People then pick and choose what else they want to read or hear online.

It’s very hard for many people to understand science in the first place. I really don’t think most Americans get even the basics of how science works until college - and even then, the vast majority don’t know what empiricism or hypotheses are. Journalists certainly do their best at paraphrasing, but it’s not the best system.

Many threads ago I posted a link about how nations whose students score higher on measures of scientific understanding are also doing much better in terms of COVID deaths (with the exception of France and Italy - who are now pondering the role of that super-spreader event in the Alps last February...their citizens do understand science, but were broadsided by that event).

Well this just came up when I was searching. So this explains why some believe in hoaxes and conspiracies. I am flabbergasted by this report.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr makes false COVID claims in live talk with Alec Baldwin

"Alec Baldwin has come under scrutiny for hosting an hour-long Instagram live interview with anti-vaccine advocate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

RFK Jr. joined Baldwin for an Instagram live discussion on Thursday, August 6 where the pair discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and the attempt to find a vaccine against the virus.

Kennedy, Jr made several unfounded claims during the hour-long discussion, but it was his claim that the COVID-19 lockdown would claim more lives than the virus itself that inspired the most scrutiny. "

Continued at link.
