Outrageous!

There should be house arrest with ankle monitor and large fines for going out around everyone when you have a positive test! Someone is going to get sued eventually. 2 cents

And some people wonder why other countries have supervised quarantine and large penalties for covid breaches.
This is exactly why.
If a supposedly responsible football coach/church leader cannot do the right thing through self-restraint, why do we expect others to adhere to correct practises?

IMO

I was actually surprised that the K-12 numbers are as high as they are. At least we are finally getting the numbers.

Of the 4,689 cases were linked to K-12 schools and universities from Sept. 6 through Saturday, more than 3,800 were among students. Of the total, 1,883 were at K-12 schools and 1,938 were at universities.

Florida coronavirus cases in K-12 schools and universities near 4,700

Very good article. Thanks for finding it.

Long Covid--this is a great way to explain it. The people I know who have had it are different ages...but the younger ones really have some of these outcomes as well. Especially the fatigue.

The article did not bring up the severe depression that is as physiological as the other symptoms.

A lot of my friends (mostly, but not all, in retirement age) are most worried about contracting the disease because of the following issues, that the article explained well.

She said, “We were all focusing on the lungs and respiratory symptoms to begin with, but the virus attacks the same receptor that is in the heart too, not just the lungs. Many patients who have had heart failure in the past who have now been very unwell with covid symptoms have sustained arrhythmias, meaning their hearts were beating very fast whilst they were ill, and they then went on to develop heart failure.

Heart Failure has so many attributes and conditions. That is why I consider Long Covid to be the Life Shortener.

this interests me because my Dad died of heart failure in March and his Covid test was negative BUT he had many of the Covid symptoms and I think they should have done another test - I felt strongly at the time, and still do, that he had Covid

I’m so sorry about your Dad @LadyL. It must have been beyond frustrating for your concerns to be ignored. :(

Anthony Fauci Has Some Very Good Reasons to Be Optimistic

September 30th 2020

All of this knowledge and insight have given Fauci reason to be optimistic. “This outbreak will end,” he said. “We will get a vaccine. And if we combine a vaccine with prudent public health measures, we can put this behind us.”

That’s fine. We each have to decide whether their reasons for remaining anonymous were cowardly or brave. IMO They were brave to discuss an issue involving life or death for U.S. citizens, even though remaining anonymous.

“The officials all requested anonymity either because they were not authorized to discuss the matter or because they were sharing private conversations with people currently in the administration. But they tell a consistent story of how White House attempts to deal with the virus were dogged by President Donald Trump's fixation on one thing: optics.”

White House fight over masks signaled Covid-19 plans running awry - CNNPolitics

Whatever truth is behind the poor covid response (seen as such by many US citizens and other countries) will come out eventually, and it seems it is starting to seep out now. The truth always prevails in the end. IMO

Americans give the U.S. low marks for its handling of COVID-19, and so do people in other countries

September 30th 2020

All of this knowledge and insight have given Fauci reason to be optimistic. “This outbreak will end,” he said. “We will get a vaccine. And if we combine a vaccine with prudent public health measures, we can put this behind us.”

It’s the “prudent public health measures” aspect of Dr Fauci’s wonderful optimism that give me pause. I wish I could be optimistic that enough U.S. citizens would follow these five measures, as Australians did...

Nevertheless, Fauci believes that we could easily reverse that trend without putting an undue burden on the economy. “We’re not talking about shutting down anything,” he said. “We're talking about taking a very prudent, careful approach to reopening the economy by [following] the common five things: wearing masks uniformly, avoiding crowds, keeping distance, doing things outdoors absolutely much more preferentially than indoors, and washing your hands frequently.”

Those five basic steps could have an extra benefit: If followed uniformly, they could effectively mitigate the upcoming flu season.
******
But my pessimism that most will not follow these simple measures will not prevent me from taking these precautions. As Dr Fauci warns:

“Despair makes you throw your hands up and say, it doesn’t matter what I do, what’s going to happen is going to happen,” Fauci said. “That is incorrect. It does matter what we do. And if we do it for a while longer, we will look behind us and the outbreak will be behind us, not among us.”

The problem is that the only things subject to "shutting down," are things involving crowds, incompatibility with masks, difficulty distancing and take place indoors (bars, restaurants, theaters, clubs, concerts, gyms, churches, etc.) It doesn't make any sense.

they need to be charged and fined
not just fined but charged with something criminal
because as far as I'm concerned, what they did was criminal

Dozens exposed, 9 test positive in COVID-19 cluster in Oneida County

“The church and the coach of the football team, which practices at the Northern Community Sports Complex in Holland Patent, have refused to cooperate with the county’s investigation, Ellis said. Instead of providing health department workers with a list of names, they referred them to their lawyers, she said.

The nine cases include six people in family A, the parents, three children and an adult child who gives music lessons both for a nonprofit agency and at the church. The other cases include a co-worker of the music teacher, her spouse and a child from a third family who caught it from carpooling, according to the diagram.

Those patients did many activities during which they could potentially have spread the coronavirus, including a birthday party, a trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles office, visiting a doctor’s office, having a sleepover, going to school and going to soccer practice.

Adult one and his wife also took a trip to New York City after he was symptomatic, leaving the children with a babysitter, who has since tested negative, Ellis said.”

Refuses to cooperate.
Deliberately exposes others.

I am not sure that I understand this post.

Why does it not make sense to shut down things that involve crowds? (If that is what you are saying.)

It is lack of social distancing that is a great problem. IMO
Social distancing involves staying apart (which is difficult in many venues), and wearing of masks to provide the 'social distance' between peoples airborne droplets.

What else would be shut down that would make it seem more sense?

So I think it doesn't make sense because to avoid the things Fauci mentions, things have to be shut down, even though he says shutting down isn't necessary. So these places can be open but Fauci says avoid them?

A Central New York man who tested positive for the coronavirus is being blamed for failing to follow Covid-19 guidelines, leading to a cluster of cases and potentially exposing hundreds to the virus.

WKTV reports at least nine people have contracted Covid-19 in the Oneida County village of Holland Patent, stemming from one symptomatic person who tested positive and did not quarantine.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. said Wednesday it started with a man who showed symptoms and tested positive for Covid-19. His name has not been released but he is a football coach and a church leader who continued to attend practices, youth group meetings and church services, Picente said.

The man’s wife and four of his children — one of whom is an adult and a music teacher — then tested positive, and all of the family members also failed to quarantine. The Oneida County Health Department released a chart of its contact tracing efforts, showing how each infected person exposed others at a birthday party, a school, daycare, music lessons, and a sleepover; there were also low-risk exposures at a soccer practice, the DMV and doctor’s offices.

“Adult one” and his wife also went on a bus trip to New York City while he was sick, Picente said. It’s unclear how many people were on the bus or exposed in NYC.

How one CNY man with coronavirus failed to quarantine, may have exposed hundreds

jaw. dropping selfishness to the level of criminality IMO

I had to go to Walmart today. I don't like that place in the best of times. My husband uses a soda stream and needed refills and that's the closest place.

They no longer have isles with instructions for which direction to go.

You have to get the soda stream refills at the customer service desk. I had to wait a loooooong time while a customer argued about a few dollars. Said customer had no mask on and was very adamant to the poor girl behind the counter. I was sad for the employee.

I feel like some are letting their guard down and that worries me a LOT. I saw so many people wearing their masks below their nose or even pulled all the way down. Sure, I get hot in my mask but it's nothing compared to someone being on a ventilator.

The Rt rate may be down but I personally think it is idiotic to remove the state wide mask mandate. We have the 3rd highest death rate in the US. Poor choices in healthcare, pre-existing conditions abound and flu season is here. Thankfully, my city has a mandate but I had to be out some today and noticed many people were maskless. I’m hedging my bet on numbers rising to mid summer level within 4 weeks.

Bars, movie theaters and amusement parks can open with restrictions, Gov. Cooper announces

“Gov. Roy Cooper on Wednesday announced that bars -- for the first time since March -- will be able to open for limited outdoor capacity.

Movie theatres, amusement parks, and outdoor venues will also be able to open with limited capacity.”

Bar owners protest Gov. Cooper's Phase 3 reopening | wcnc.com

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte bar owners gathered outside the federal courthouse Thursday afternoon to protest Governor Roy Cooper's Phase 3 reopening order.

About one to two dozen people from bars throughout Mecklenburg County held hand-made signs demanding Gov. Cooper allow them to reopen.

According to Phase 3 guidelines, only bars with outdoor space are allowed to reopen, but at 30 percent capacity or 100 people, whichever is less.

Michaele Laria co-owns Jeff's Bucket Shop, and she hoped the protest will send a strong message to Gov. Cooper.

"We want to be treated fairly," Laria said. "We submitted health and safety guidelines to Governor Cooper, and we can do it better than what the restaurant/bars, the country clubs, the breweries, the wineries, the adult entertainment places, the casino, everywhere that can sell the same alcohol that we have and pay the same amount for a liquor license that we can't use."

(They have a point in my opinion)

Local musicians have been playing at wineries. Bring your picnic basket and buy a bottle of wine and listen to some music in the wonderful fall weather.

My take away from his comments are that we can go to restaurants, bars, concerts and entertainment places - preferred venue is outdoors. Indoors with social distancing.
Restrictions on seating capacity.

There is a bar inside a chain grocery store and it has opened back up. You can sit at the bar without a mask. Some had on masks, some didn’t. Bartender had on a mask. They were spaced apart and playing trivia. People appeared to be having fun.
But if indoor bars/concerts/venues with people crowded together is your thing?
Might be a while before those are back in play.

China contained Covid-19. Now, hundreds of millions of people there are about to go on vacation at the same time

Over 550 million people in the PRC will go home or travel for vacation this weekend as part of Moon Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival) which is like our Thanksgiving in China. People have time off from work and usually go home to the countryside to see their families and eat lots of moon cake and drink tea and gaze at the full moon tonight.

We'll be having our moon cakes tonight, and if it isn't clouded over, we'll be looking for jade rabbit's shadow on the moon (for Chinese, jade rabbit is seen on the moon, like our man on the moon tradition).

Happy Moon Festival!
