Well, after this, we probably shouldn't mention common events.

Pressed by CNN’s Joe Johns on the timing of when the White House learned Hope Hicks had tested positive, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows conceded that people knew of her positive diagnosis before Marine One took off for New Jersey on Thursday afternoon for a fundraiser.

Some staffers, he said, were pulled from Marine One, raising further questions about why the trip proceeded, the President coming into contact with numerous supporters at his Bedminster club.

Meadows confirms the White House knew Hicks was positive before POTUS traveled

Did anyone wonder even for just a second, if T's covid diagnosis came at a convenient time to step away, lay low?

Lay low 32 days before the election? Really?

Both Trump and Melania tested positive.

Quite a bit to catch up on, but the first thing that came to my mind is if the people involved suffer little or no symptoms, what will that do the tendency to down play the pandemic?

No. Why would this be a convenient time to step away and lay low?

Glad to hear that Ivanka and Jared and Barron tested negative. And Vice President Pence and his wife.
Biden and his wife Jill have also tested negative.

Senator Mike Lee tests positive for coronavirus

Sen. Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah who met with Amy Coney Barrett Tuesday, has tested positive for coronavirus. He took the test yesterday and the results came back today.

Lee also attended the Supreme Court unveiling announcement on Saturday.

I hope Judge Barrett is okay!

ETA I just heard on the news that she tested negative.

Are you implying he or someone else chose for him to get Covid? I’m not sure I understand the question.

I don’t think Hope Hicks deliberately went and got CoVid nor do I believe any of Trump’s people deliberately chose to get CoVid.

I believe many of them worried about it getting it (especially the Secret Service, who has had an outbreak at their training center).

I also believe that some of them, including the President, truly believed that they could not or would not get it - that’s what came to my mind. There are lots of people who have been relatively healthy all their lives who believe such things “can’t happen to me.” I know several personally.

Did they get their contributions in first? That's really all that matters to him.

Fundraisers are very common during presidential and other elections.

When Justin Trudeau went into quarantine after his wife tested positive, he ran his country from home. So I imagine the same thing will happen here while the President is in quarantine.

That was when I was following so many every.single.day. And gained so very much respect for Trudeau. He led the country so responsibly, and I was in awe as I had not ever heard of his policies and such, just @Bravo, his good looks lol. So much respect I had for him after following him and how he handled such!

Agree with you Sundog, we can perhaps only imagine that happening.

Most contagious time...

People who test positive for Covid-19 are actually most contagious in the few days before they develop symptoms, according to CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, as President Trump, first lady Melania Trump and adviser Hope Hicks all tested positive for the virus.

“If this is the point where he started to develop symptoms, it probably meant that you were doing most of … what they call the viral shedding in the couple three days before that. OK, so today is Friday, symptoms Thursday, so now you're going back to Tuesday or Monday in terms of contagiousness. It also makes a difference on the back side in terms of when someone might be cleared from isolation,” he said.

Honestly I was very skeptical when I first heard it.

Why you should wait 5 days to be tested for COVID-19 after a possible exposure
More
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Health officials on Monday said anyone who has a possible exposure to COVID-19 should wait at least five days before going to get a test for the virus. News 3′s Rusty Surette asked Dr. Seth Sullivan to clarify this during Monday’s news conference.

“When we get tested matters and that should be about five days and no sooner than that,” said Dr. Sullivan. “If I’m exposed to somebody right now and then twelve hours later I go and get the test, it makes sense that I have not yet had time for the virus to do what it’s going to do inside my body to start replicating and then be positive on these tests.”

Which neglects to acknowledge that you may have been exposed at the same time MOO! ESPECIALLY if the person who was around you already had not been quarantined through CONTACT TRACING! MOO

Trump not participating in midday call about coronavirus support for seniors, source says

Trump is not participating in the midday call about coronavirus support for seniors that was listed on his public schedule.
t
Instead, Pence kicked off the call, saying Trump asked him to lead it.

Pence did not provide a reason beyond saying that Trump and the first lady tested positive. From there, he jumped into remarks.

Glad to hear it. The President should rest, regardless of symptoms, he needs rest and no stress right now, as we all do when fighting an infectious disease. Hope they continue to encourage the Vice President and others to take the lead on these kinds of appointments for now, and can get the President to rest and recover.

Oh boy, sound like Trump wiped everything off his "to-do" list today:

Another source says an email went out to all governors’ offices four hours ago inviting them a call w POTUS. Here is email.

White House told Cuomo's office that POTUS would be on this 12:15 call, per people briefed. But it's Pence, not POTUS, who is on right now.

I just want to remind posters that we were told the PM was ok and next thing we knew he was in ICU on oxygen so things can change really quickly with Covid. He took a long time convalescing too. I don't want to be negative but they may not report the President's true health status over the next few days.
JMO.

That indeed is correct. It usually is more than 7 days when and if goes downhill. MOO The fact of the matter is that Boris' folks announced immediately when it happened as to going on oxygen... they were transparent MOO on his condition.

Quite a bit to catch up on, but the first thing that came to my mind is if the people involved suffer little or no symptoms, what will that do the tendency to down play the pandemic?

I suppose that many people will still play the odds. If the President has a mild course, a lot of people will downplay that CoVid has long term effects or is serious, if that’s what you’re asking our opinions about.

But keep in mind that the entire Trump-group was getting regularly fast tests and that gave them a sense of security. The rest of us don’t have that.

The CoVid-deniers will continue to play it down, although some of them are surely questioning Trump’s position on masks at this point. That means his supporters will continue to get CoVid at higher rates than people who accept that CoVid is an issue.

It is the second leading cause of death in the US right now. It leaves scarring in the lungs in even the mildly symptomatic (not 100% but perhaps 70%), changes to the myocardium (the outside layer of the heart, which is highly susceptible to CoVid), etc. These changes occur with other diseases, are usually permanent, and give the CoVid patients a lifelong tendency toward further lung and heart problems.

The neurological problems are quite real as well, as this virus does a number on the cranial nerves as well. This is more rare, but significant and probably lasting.

The President will receive the very best of medical care, obviously. He is unlikely to have a severe course, but even a mild course can have serious implications, especially for the over 65 set, due to the way the body’s immunity system works.
