Well, after this, we probably shouldn't mention common events.

Pressed by CNN’s Joe Johns on the timing of when the White House learned Hope Hicks had tested positive, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows conceded that people knew of her positive diagnosis before Marine One took off for New Jersey on Thursday afternoon for a fundraiser.

Some staffers, he said, were pulled from Marine One, raising further questions about why the trip proceeded, the President coming into contact with numerous supporters at his Bedminster club.

Meadows confirms the White House knew Hicks was positive before POTUS traveled

Yes, Wednesday when Hicks was isolated mid day on Wednesday was prior to when chief of staff Mark Meadows conceded that people knew of her positive diagnosis before Marine One took off for New Jersey on Thursday.

Let's get that timeline back to Wednesday when she, as a person who traveled with the president, fell ill mid day. The entire team has access to 15 minute testing is what has been touted. Wednesday they isolated her for being ill with COVID symptoms.

Quite a bit to catch up on, but the first thing that came to my mind is if the people involved suffer little or no symptoms, what will that do the tendency to down play the pandemic?

It might highlight how Norman Cain died? That someone who was asymptomatic spread it to him and led to his death?..oh yeah, and many many others now?

Amazing though that we are back down to single digit numbers after over 14%.

I'm not sure if you are an American citizen. The unemployement numbers count only those that are getting unemployment and are documented etc. Once it expires... they drop off the counts. The numbers from the beginning of the epidemic have now fallen off the counts.

MOO

To many, it's misleading

That indeed is correct. It usually is more than 7 days when and if goes downhill. MOO The fact of the matter is that Boris' folks announced immediately when it happened as to going on oxygen... they were transparent MOO on his condition.
Well no they weren't. They kept saying there was nothing to worry about. It reminds me what they are saying about the President now. They are saying his symptoms are mild and he is continuing to work. They said similar with the PM and then suddenly he was in ICU. Whether the PM downplayed the seriousness of his condition or continued working instead of resting, we were not actually privy to. We only really found out afterwards how serious it had been with a dedicated ICU nurse by his bed 24/7.

From Hope, one of his aides or from Melania who got it from the aide. Have to remember it is contagious without symptoms for several days. I am assuming POTUS and FLOTUS have been symptom free and testing negative up till this last one. MOO.

Well that's what they are doing, staying home in the WH, so no difference there. POTUS has no health insurance apparently.

I just want to point out that we don’t know this for sure. While it seems likely it was Hope, because the public was told 24 hours after her positive test that she was positive, it’s possible there’s another vector. There were several Trump family members on the same planes and there were others on the helicopter as well.

The quick tests they were using for all of their campaigners/staff aren’t as accurate as the swab test that eventually confirmed Trump’s diagnosis.

It is actually possible that Trump gave it to Hope - we just don’t know. It will be very hard to know. Where did Hope get it? We have been told that everyone the President was routinely tested. Reporters who went to the WH describe a rapid test. But how often was the staff tested? Daily? More than once a day? Every time they. We’re about to meet with the President only?

We really don’t know. I believe that Trump tested positive on one of those quick tests - which lead to them giving him a swab test last night (and sure enough, about 2 hours after the Hope announcement, they announce he has it).

My guess is that it will be hard to know who within this cluster had it first merely by the facts we have. At any rate, Hope will continue to be the one who “gave CoVid to Trump” as that narrative is established. They must have had face-to-face interaction, perhaps on a plane or helicopter, long enough to exchange virions. Did Melania get it from Hope too? Or from her husband? We will likely never know.

Trump cancelled his work for today, apparently (see above about the phone call - he’s not even doing phone calls). Hopefully, he’s resting. It’s too early for him to get major medical interventions, as things like anti-virals have their own risks.

I suppose that many people will still play the odds. If the President has a mild course, a lot of people will downplay that CoVid has long term effects or is serious, if that’s what you’re asking our opinions about.

I was thinking in much more specific and immediate terms. I wonder if his message would become openly hostile and move to "punish" jurisdictions that impose Covid restrictions. Kind of like "you closed the economy for THIS???!!!"

Whoa. I wasn’t trying to downplay the virus. I stated my personal story was anecdotal, which I shared at my own peril.

My parents aren’t filthy rich and weren’t pumped full of anything, and I don’t have any knowledge of the Trumps being pumped full of anything.

I don’t think Zinc or antivirals are something only the filthy rich could get, regardless.

I wasn't saying you were. And I wasn't talking about your parents. (Thank God they're both fine). I was just jumping off your post.

And yes, being given IV antivirals and zinc when not super ill, is indeed something only the wealthy can get. It is not protocol in the US to aggressively treat people who test positive, UNTIL they begin showing life-threatening symptoms.

But that can be too late for some.

While many people won't acquire a serious form of the disease to begin with, my point is that the elite can and will hedge their bets with aggressive, prophylactic treatment, so they will likely be okay no matter what their possible risk factors are.

But that's not true for the rest of us.

The White House took numerous steps to prevent Trump becoming infected, NY Gov. Cuomo said. Cuomo said he went through screening and testing before several meetings with the president during the pandemic.

The fact that Trump contracted the illness even with extensive safeguards in place shows everyone must take the virus seriously, Cuomo said.

Cuomo on Trump coronavirus: ‘This is an insidious enemy’

Oh boy, sound like Trump wiped everything off his "to-do" list today:

Another source says an email went out to all governors’ offices four hours ago inviting them a call w POTUS. Here is email.

White House told Cuomo's office that POTUS would be on this 12:15 call, per people briefed. But it's Pence, not POTUS, who is on right now.

Again, glad to hear it, hope they are convincing the President to get some rest so that his immune system remains strong. Vice President can ably handle a call to the governors and other kinds of appointments like this.

We don't know what for sure? I stated it could have been Hope, an aide or Melania. They all get tested daily and only 3 are positive so far.

Senator Mike Lee tests positive for coronavirus

Sen. Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah who met with Amy Coney Barrett Tuesday, has tested positive for coronavirus. He took the test yesterday and the results came back today.

Lee also attended the Supreme Court unveiling announcement on Saturday.

I sure hope Amy is tested again, as it may be too soon for her to show a positive result - that’’s a couple of positive CV people she’s been seen with, unmasked.

(I think one of the situations where she was exposed was outdoors, but some were apparently also indoors). If it was on Tuesday, she should be retested today and tomorrow - and not with a quick test if she wants to be careful.

Eww I’m not gonna read that
From what I’ve heard for numerous locals, many are getting the shortEr swabs here not the long Brain pokers.
moo the shorter ones may not be as accurate moo

She had a pre-existing condition that facilitated this unfortunate result. I think this is the only case like this.

BBM Do you think the administration knows the cure for Covid and is keeping it under wraps?

I think it would be impossible, not cost effective and likely dangerous to treat everyone who tests positive with antivirals. However, I do think that it would likely stop symptoms from developing in many people.

Mother who are HIV positive are given intravenous antivirals right before and during birth and the newborns are given the same drug orally for almost two months after birth. This has caused the risk of HIV in babies of positive mothers to plummet. In fact, 99% of moms DO NOT pass the disease to their babies, following these protocols.

UpToDate.

HIV and Pregnancy

I'm no doctor but based on some research I have seen, (gay men on PreP have lower rates of coronavirus infection) and the use of anti-virals to treat patients with severe forms of COVID, I am using deductive reasoning to conclude that the elite have the ability to obtain aggressive prophylactic treatments that no one else can (due to money, health care company protocols and risk) and thus their probability of becoming seriously ill is far lower than those of the general public.

What I have seen in several stories of people who have died or become very ill, is that they're told to go home and then self-treat, and/or never seek care to begin with, thinking this is not a big deal and only come back to the ER when it's too late to effectively treat. That is both a problem with our health care system and a problem with downplaying the seriousness of this virus.

So the outcomes of all the celebrities and politicians who become infected is NOT representative of what could happen to the average person and I am very worried that this will cause people to further downplay this disease to their peril, and the peril of those around them.

Let me tell you, I had that test once and have told people it felt like they were probing my brain with the swab. It was awful! I had no idea that that could actually happen! But good to know she had a condition that facilitated that so everyone else is not at risk.

It seems the saliva tests are just as effective, however. So I hope that's what they start using more often. Those swab tests hurt.
