BBM

Although states have sovereign rights and the President cannot direct a Governor to implement orders to stay home, close businesses, etc, he does have tremendous influence over governors and citizens by what he says and does. We all remember that he deliberately minimized the pandemic and his tweets to “Liberate Michigan” and other states after they implemented science-based responses to the pandemic. We all remember his refusing to wear a mask and not promoting it. While there are no guarantees that more governors would have followed science more quickly if the President had used his position to promote safe practices, he didn’t even try and resisted the approaches that could have made the difference. He wasn’t helpless, despite states’ rights.

I agree. He could have, and should have, handled it much better.

More Than 200 COVID-19 Cases Linked to Fitchburg Church

Fitchburg is one of 16 communities in the commonwealth considered at the highest risk for transmitting the virus, according to the state's latest weekly community-level data on the coronavirus pandemic.”

Maybe they need a community team to reach out to all church members to educate them? If they continue going there knowing it is high risk especially in their community?

Maybe faith healing and a belief in a higher power is their focus. I am sure that even people who live under a rock have heard much about "Covid" and transmission. They choose another path.

El Paso, Texas, calls in ten morgue trucks as coronavirus cases surge — Reuters

“Officials in the county of El Paso, Texas, said on Monday they are bringing in 10 temporary refrigerated morgue trailers to contend with one of the worst surges in coronavirus in the United States.

Six morgue trailers had already been deployed as of Monday, according to County Judge Ricardo Samaniego, the most senior government executive in the county, which borders on Mexico. Four more have been requested from the Federal Emergency
Management Agency to be sent to local funeral homes as demand dictates, Samaniego said during a meeting of county commissioners.”

Six had already been deployed.
Ten coming.
Four more requested.

Now, the region must act immediately to curb or reverse the dangerous trend, they said.

We still need to act. We still need to do a lot more. But it’s going to be much more painful now, and if we decide to wait a couple more weeks, it’ll be that much more painful yet.”

Local doctors are issuing dire warnings about the COVID-19 pandemic in the coming weeks and months in the United States, reminding the public and elected officials that actions have to be taken immediately to save lives.

But local public health experts and epidemiologists are emphasizing that action is needed before Jan. 20, 2021, to save lives.

“There is community transmission and we need to get a handle on it,” Grenier said.

I just pulled a few comments from your post .... because the situation is so very dire.
Are people hearing the message? I think not, by the post I just read that so many are going to travel for Thanksgiving.

It saddens me that agencies have been instructed not to work with the president-elect.
The US is in serious pandemic trouble.
And I have yet to hear the current administration saying anything about that ... helping the people to understand.

Actually no. The governor just did a pc this morning and only 27 school districts out of 446 public/private districts have requested online waivers since Nov.1st. That is about 6 %. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds Press Conference | November 10, 2020, 11:00 a.m.

Isn't it funny (not funny) how our perspectives are so very different?

27 schools is a heck of a lot of schools to me. I think if 27 schools in any state here were having covid difficulties, there is a strong likelihood that all schools would be closed while they got a grip on the problem ... contact traced to see how far the virus had spread, then deal with the spread.

My previous post about the levels of cases in schools across the US - well, I found those levels shocking. Because all of those cases came from/lead to other cases. They don't stay at school.

It is getting crazy here in Indiana. I have been working in several different clinics in the past few days. Entire families and extended families are testing positive. We have nothing to offer them except to advise they go to ER if they get sicker or develop difficulty breathing.

In one case a 6 year old girl is in intensive care and none of her family, including parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles can visit her. All are positive COVID cases.

People need to stop family gatherings immediately.

And people who think kids aren’t affected by COVID need to pay attention.

In the "not all bad news" department: I noticed 100% proper mask wearing at my local Kroger today. The store was busy, too. First time I've seen that.

Geez, I must have missed some of this silk discussion way back.... so glad you have brought it back up.
So a question or two

Is the silk just a cut single layer added inside another mask?
Or is the whole mask silk?
How do you think it helps hot flashes? I kindof have permanent hot flashes after breast cancer treatments long ago.... so am verrrry interested!!
Thanks Jane....

me too! but I don't use silk

Actually, IMO 27 schools is alot to me too. And I only think it is going to get worse as Winter sets in. It's just that the schools that I'm reading about are at the moment widespread in the area I read about and not county wide or even city wide in some of the bigger cities, but IMO it will come. ETA-I think that the governor and IDPH, etc. are making it sound better than what it is.

This is so awful! I can't imagine a child being so sick and no one can be with her. That's a terrible thing.

WTH?! We just went to look at a house and the real estate agent was NOT wearing a mask! Then, she goes to hug my husband. (Who was wearing a mask). I was seriously gonna to B-Slap her.

I intervened, and loudly asked her very pointedly, where her mask was....and could she put it on, or did she need one? <modsnip>

Rant over. For now.

Did I forget to mention that her "mask", looked like a piece of white gauze? Seriously!
