The video opens in the post for me not you tube so I’m not getting that option. I’m sure if I click and tap around enough I’ll figure it out lol :) ty

For me, if I click on the title of the video (up near the top), then it opens it in a separate YouTube window

You can click on the word "Youtube" on bottom of video window as seen within the post. That will open up the video in YouTube, where all sorts of settings/options are available.

If anything, I want to get over my fears because this is not only about me, this is about everyone. As Dr. Mike says, “Nobody is safe until we are all safe”. While it seems to be easy for so many, I refuse to be that person who does anything to jeopardize the safety of others. So, it’s either remain isolated and in this house til I die (which frankly is unreasonable), or take the vaccine.

I wonder how many people will be hopping on a plane to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. when this is over. I personally am not sure if I can ever get over the selfishness and stupidity of some of my fellow Americans. Some may say, “fine, get out then”. So be it. I prefer to live in a more caring and socially responsible culture. I’m optimistic wrt the virus under the new administration’s very conscious efforts to unite and end this pandemic, however that doesn’t change the fact that half the country doesn’t seem to care about others’ safety. Jmo.

“So far, I’ve been fortunate. But not a day goes by that I don’t wonder whether my streak of good luck is about to end, because the person in front of me in the grocery line is wearing a mask below his nose — expelling a cloud of radioactive COVID dust that I cannot escape, short of dropping $50 on the conveyor belt and trying to outrun the security guard.

With alcoholism, opioid addiction or smoking, we stand a fighting chance. But COVID-19 has turned the most necessary part of living — breathing — into a deadly event. If there’s anything that can make us hate our neighbors, it is the possibility that their very existence — every breath they exhale — could be lethal.“

Again, where are we on studies re: nose exhalation and droplets/viral load?

On noses, I can only find this:

Respiratory virus shedding in exhaled breath and efficacy of face masks | Nature Medicine

but it shows that we have *more* virions in our noses than in our mouths, so there's that.

That same finding is in a number of other studies, and it's probable that more severely ill patients shed more virions (and for longer). I can't find anything new on how many virions we need to inhale to get sick.

The main focus of the research has been on neutralizing responses in nasal passages vs. lungs. Apparently, as COVID develops in the body, the nasal load goes down and, for those who go on to become severely ill, the load in the lung goes up. This is because different antibodies are needed in these two places. So a person's body can fight off the virions in the nose, but have rapid increase of virions in the lungs (which are then exhaled in every breath). IOW, the number of virions in the nose do not predict the number of virions exhaled.

My hypothesis would be that mouth breathing exudes more lung virions and nasal breathing, for obvious reasons. I also interpret some of the studies to be saying that it is the lungs that are key in transmitting coronavirus (that's the theory on why kids don't transmit it quite as much as adults). Adults with neutralizing antibodies in their nasal passages are less likely to get a severe case of lung-based coronavirus.

We can't experiment on people to determine how much viral load is necessary to be infected, but there is interesting longterm animal research that shows that 1 virion could possibly be enough for infection (although rare) and that larger doses of virions are more likely to result in infection. It's a very sobering piece of research:

One Virus Particle Is Enough To Cause Infectious Disease

For most of us (80%? that's the conclusion of the above article), 1 virion wouldn't be enough. The viruses under study were not CV-19, though. It's said that CV-19 is less virulent than, say, measles.

That article I linked above (from Nature) actually comes closest to answering the question, when combined with a large amount of research on masks. Masks work through dramatically lowering viral load (and now we have great data from Sweden or South Dakota - or even the individual counties in some places, in which we can correlate the spread of COVID with lack of masks - the only thing a mask does is cut viral load...)

Vaccination cards will be issued to everyone getting Covid-19 vaccine, health officials say - CNN

Perhaps follow other countries who have already approved e.g. UK presser upthread.

Also @margarita25 did you see this Q&A with Drs. Mike and Maria yesterday? I love their weekly Q&A's!

Sounds like they lived in Tijuana (expats from San Diego) and had plane tickets which for reason kept charging them every time they changed the flight? I don’t know what airline during Covid is doing that - most have waived fees and even if you cancel - the credit is still there for you to use later. It has cost them a lot more than change flight fees now. :(
So much sadness

Articles here in SoCal are saying the couple thought they were about to have their tickets finally expire (sounds like they made reservations well before COVID?)

Since the flight sounds as if it was Tijuana to Oaxaca, I'm guessing Aeromexico or one of its subsidiaries.

Couple becomes seriously ill with COVID-19 during vacation to southern Mexico

I would not expect much mask compliance in Oaxaca or any emphasis on testing. It's a beautiful part of Mexico, but like stepping back a century or two in many ways. This couple is lucky that Oaxaca City does have a modern hospital.

The couple did take masks and she had a face shield (to use in restaurants, as eating out is their thing). He did not have a face shield, apparently.

Airfare from Tijuana to Oaxaca is often very cheap (like $70). I can't imagine that they paid much more than $100 RT in the first place.

Asking for a friend ;)
Without getting toooo sciency
If a workplace/or school whatever has a vaccine rate of 50%. With high levels of community spread going into it. Does that mean those unvaccinated people in that setting are now at a much less risk than before? Or 50% risk now? Same risk as before ?
thanks :)

It would be as if classroom size were cut in half - so yes, it will protect the non-vaccinated. The hard part is that right now, there's no good evidence to show that the vaccinated can't spread COVID (at least briefly).

That's why the vaccine is so important - if nothing else works to bring down COVID rates and deaths, taking half of the population and making them immune is a huge stride forward.

Unfortunately, we have to assume that the unvaccinated are often around other unvaccinated people (and would be so in a classroom - the unvaccinated kids would spread it to other unvaccinated kids...)

So the unvaccinated will be at the same risk if they are all congregating in other settings. I think a lot about the places where bars and clubs are still open, where churches still have large gatherings, and where weddings and funerals still go on as before. And I do think that there will be entire subcultures where no one is vaccinated.

Eating out at restaurants, traveling inside an airplane cabin, and spreading Covid-19 around, is apparently also their thing.

I hope her parents are on the path of recovery soon and able to return home.

A Texas Mayor Urged People To Stay Home, Then Flew To Mexico For Vacation — NPR

“After initially saying he didn't do anything wrong, Steve Adler, the mayor of Austin, Texas, says he now realizes he "set a bad example" by traveling to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for vacation last month.

An Austin American-Statesman story revealed Wednesday that Adler attended an in-person wedding for his daughter in early November and then flew with others to Cabo for a weeklong vacation.

At the same time, Adler was encouraging people to stay home to avoid contracting or spreading COVID-19.”

Mexico again....must be those cheap flights to get Covid?

Oh yeah! I forgot about that!

I always do a right click and "copy URL" and paste in my new tab. I forgot that most here will view within the thread and not do that... so they won't see the options. I didn't know I could click on title and it would do that!

Thanks!!!!!

Eating out at restaurants, traveling inside an airplane cabin, and spreading Covid-19 around, is apparently also their thing.

Don't get me wrong they don't deserve covid and I feel for them but their reason for going was so they wouldn't lose airfare credits that were expiring - to save money.

But then they end up paying for air transport back to San Diego and now there is a go fund me asking for $15,000 for their medical bills. The man is doing worse as he has asthma. You have asthma, fly on vacay for 2 weeks, and spend every single day
eating out in a variety of different restaurants trying out various dishes.

OK then. Could write a book now of these stories. People who isolate just fine and stay healthy then take that one big gamble.

Sturgis, Thanksgiving and other holiday travel, Wedding, family birthday party, special church service with pot luck, vacation to Vegas, political ralley, protest march, meet friends at your favorite bar restaurant, pulling down a statute (group effort) etc....

No one knows if the vaccine works!

I have a lot of questions before I take any vaccine, especially what is the active and inactive ingredients in the vaccine. They are not making special vaccines for those of us who cannot take medications for one reason or another especially if they have a preservative in them to prolong shelf life. That preservative or other ingredient can kill me.

I don’t have much choice...take it and die or not take it and pray I don’t die.

Sigh.

Bringing a previous post forward that might have information updated soon. Which, if any, vaccines have you taken that are ok... and compare to the COVID when it's added to list/once approved below.

"I've never heard of dyes in vaccines, nor do I see a sulfite in this list... here ya go..

I posted this a few days ago, and this has what you are asking for. COVID not approved yet, although may give you a potential idea of possibilities? Since mRNA are new... I'm not sure there is a comparison on this list.

"I was down a rabbit hole for something else and found this. Of interest, what are the "other" ingredients in vaccines. Each vaccine in the US is listed. Just found it interesting to add to the knowledge here and had to look up the 4 that I've gotten in recent years (flu, shingrex, MMR, pneumonia)

Another doozie of a day in South Carolina

S.C. reports more than 1,700 new COVID-19 cases, percent-positive rate above 23%
DHEC "reported more than 1,754 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases Thursday, over 100 more than the total reported Wednesday. It marked the 16th straight report in which the daily new case count exceeded 1,000 and a second day with percent-positive rate above 20%."

208,435 confirmed positive cases (+1,754)
4,145 confirmed deaths (+21)

Total Tests Received - 2,773,206
Percent Positive - 23.8%

Another visitor to our office today said 'despite these figures' there are only 3 other states doing better than South Carolina. In other words, we're the 4th best state in the nation when it comes to battling and beating coronavirus. Is this true? And even if it is, with stats like the above, we may be doing better than other states but that doesn't mean we're doing good.

I am thnking that Pfizer and Moderna vaccines probably do not contain preservatives ... considering their storage requirements of cold/ultra cold freezer and limited refrigeration.

I may sound like the crazy conspiracy lady, but I do not like the idea of "vaccination cards". What will I be prevented from doing without the official government-issued card? Will I be able to shop, work, travel, own a car, dine in a restaurant, etc. without it?

Okay, getting the initial gut-punch panic out of the way, let me go read the article/watch the video, ha ha.

Do you not have a vaccination card from your younger years? They are imperative to keep track of your more-occassional vaccinations (as opposed to the frequency of a flu vac).

I have several vaccination cards. When we travelled a lot when I was a child I had all kinds of unusual vaccinations due to where we travelled (yellow fever vac being one I remember, without looking at the card).

If a card is required to get into a covid safe place, surely that should be reassuring.
