A cancer patient needed critical care. Because of the COVID-19 surge, she died without it

Bill isn't angry at the the hospital, whom he described “to a person [as] sympathetic, compassionate and very kind to us. … They did all they could.” Instead, Billy lays Kim’s ordeal squarely on “maskholes.” “We’re never going to know if she could’ve been saved,” he said

Of maskholes, Billy said: “They’re intelligent people. They’re not stupid. But I call them fake patriots. They’ll say, ‘I’ll die for my country against tyranny, but I won’t wear a mask for my fellow human being.’ Well, you don’t have a country without caring for others.”

Column: A cancer patient needed critical care. Because of the COVID-19 surge, she died without it
Imo, those 'maskholes' are nothing more than sick war criminals that enjoy shooting invisible bullets at their own compatriots. We have 2 enemies. Virus and them. I don't know which one is worse.:mad:

From your link:

“A recent New England Journal of Medicine article proposed "endothelialitis" as the unifying mechanism for the widespread pathology of COVID-19. In a prior Medscape interview, Medscape contributor Andrew N. Wilner, MD, discussed this intriguing hypothesis with William Li, MD, one of the article's authors.

An alternative view suggests that virus-induced upregulation of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) — a hormonal network that regulates blood pressure fluid, and electrolytes — accounts for the diverse systemic effects of COVID-19. Maureen Czick, MD, a proponent of this theory, is an anesthesiologist at the University of Connecticut with an academic interest in cell biology and coronavirus pathophysiology. Dr Czick was kind enough to share her insights in an email interview with Dr Wilner.“

Upon a cursory search of the above bolded “endothelialitis”:

My husband and I will be alone for Christmas. No grandbabies or parents will be anywhere near us.
We are sad, so guess what I did?!
Bahahahaaa!
I got us some goofy matching pajamas and some silly socks to wear!
I mean we can't go anywhere so why not just have some fun?

I did the same thing, plus matching PJs for the 3 dogs. I may be the only one who gets a kick out of it, but participation will not be optional. ;)

ETA— didn’t think of matching socks though. Genius!

My coworker just let me know she has Covid. Thank goodness we all work from home all the time.
She said she feels crummy. Last week the kids had a “cold”. It was just a cold so they tagged along as she Christmas shopped last week. The were finally tested and lo and behold all positive. Her comment to me? Thank goodness they got their Christmas shopping done.
No wonder this thing is spreading.
Sigh.
I hope they all will fully recover, but this is so disheartening. I mean, what more can we do to educate people to stay home if they are feeling unwell? Do they really not care what the consequences of their action may be? It boggles the mind to be honest.

So, it seems the latest buzzword is “mutant”...

Does she not know how to order online?
I basically cancelled Christmas this year, going to drink and probably post drunk ramblings on here.

Cheers! I am right there with you, Mimosa!

I have always equated mutations with morphing.
*like a catapillar to a butterfly*
At least that's how I used to explain antibiotic resistance to parents.
Over time the the bacteria that cause infection changes and suddenly the antibiotics we have used for years (1st generation Penecillin for example) don't work as well.
So we have to move to a 2nd generation like a cephalasporin because typical infection doesn't respond or resolve with penicillin.
The less we prescribe penicillin when uneeded for viruses for example, the slower the resistance rate becomes and the mutations should slow as well.
MOO
Morphing- It's a quick visual in your head that you can understand and deal with.
Are Cephalosporins Superior to Penicillin for Treatment of Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis?

Governor Cuomo Calls on the Federal Government to Take Action in Wake of Highly Contagious Variant of Covid-19 Virus Circulating in the United Kingdom

“"There is a disturbing story coming out of the United Kingdom of a highly contagious new variant of the COVID-19 virus. A number of countries have banned people from the UK, and 120 countries demand that before you get on a flight in the UK to come to their country, you have to have tested negative. The United States has a number of flights coming in from the UK each day and we have done absolutely nothing. To me, this is reprehensible because this is what happened in the spring," Governor Cuomo said. "How many times in life do you have to make the same mistake before you learn? The federal government is being grossly negligent just like the spring, and every day they do nothing on this problem, they do something. It's high time the federal government takes swift action, because today that variant is getting on a plane and landing in JFK, and all it takes is one person."“

I don't know why all countries did not stop flights and deal with their own country's infections first. Isn't that logical?

Sydney Northern Beaches cluster now at 83 cases. Several of those cases are in the city of Sydney (but linked to the Northern Beaches area). Slightly encouraged as they are finding less new cases each day of testing (thousands have been and are being tested).

All states have issued quarantine restrictions on people from Sydney. Western Australia has closed its border to them entirely.

The iconic Sydney to Hobart yacht race - which usually starts on the day after Christmas - has been cancelled. Almost a hundred boats were poised and ready, but they had to pull the pin. First time it has been cancelled since World War II.

New rules coming into effect from Tuesday mean all foreign aircrews will go into police-controlled quarantine hotels.

Sydney Covid community transmission spreads outside northern beaches as cluster grows to 83
