Posted within the last hour. He speaks to lock down in UK and said mid February, but may be mid March.

He also reviews the vaccine tracker

““The weeks ahead will be the hardest yet, but I really do believe that we are entering the last phase of the struggle,” Johnson told the nation Monday night. “Because with every jab that goes into our arms, we are tilting the odds against COVID and in favor of the British people.”“

It’s lockdown No. 3 for England, at least six weeks at home

If there is no community transmission, there is nowhere for the virus to come from. So it is not weather related here at the moment.

Greater Sydney area is having a little community transmission right now (well, they had zero cases today, so they may be getting a grip on their outbreak already ... hopefully).

This is why we are so big on quarantining incoming returned travellers because we don't want any virus in the community. They are not allowed out of quarantine until 14 days has passed, and they have tested negative ... or until they are well and test negative, if they enter the country with the virus (which we see more of now that the world is in such a mess).

Any outbreaks we have had have all stemmed from some stupid slip up with the quarantining. Which is why my state is opening a dedicated facility for covid positive people, when they come in from overseas. Keeping them apart from the covid negative 14-day quarantined returned travellers.

WA doesn’t mess around with people not following Covid restrictions...she tested negative, poses no community transmission risk and is still lucky to be out of jail...

Oh boy.

" ....... prosecutors on Monday said the charges could be dropped to a single misdemeanor if the vials, which have yet to be tested, are still usable.

She (wife) asked that his time with their children be supervised, saying he had made alarming remarks. The six-year-old had quoted him as saying, “This is not our home; heaven is our home,” and “All the bad angels and the devil are going to burn in the lake of fire forever,” she wrote.

In an order signed Monday, the family court granted temporary sole custody to Ms. Brandenburg, finding that the children were in “imminent danger of physical or emotional harm.”

... the criminal court granted Mr. Brandenburg release on a promise to pay $10,000 if he did not show up for his next hearing, on Jan. 19. He was ordered to surrender any firearms; the prosecutor said the police had already confiscated some of his guns."

Well, this is one very scary situation. I hope she goes to live elsewhere again.

This would be like the US having 4150-4800 deaths in a day, which I fear is a possibility for us.

I think we may see high numbers for the US today as data from the weekend continue to be processed.

California, for example, had way more cases yesterday than what is shown on worldometers (probably because worldometers uses GMT midnight as its cutoff point and data were still being input).

Local breaking news has 74,000 new cases in California for yesterday, Jan. 4.

74,000 cases.
This would be like UK having 110,000 new cases in one day, more or less!

It also means that the US had about 35,000 more cases yesterday than reported, bringing us to...93.000. But I don't believe California is the only state that failed to get all its data input before midnight GMT.

Los Angeles, where the USPS carriers still don't wear masks, firemen don't routinely wear masks, and most policeman do not wear masks, is of course the hotspot. Without key people wearing masks routinely and making it "official" that we must wear them, no one else wears them unless forced to do so in a grocery store. I strongly suspect that some quasi-outdoor settings (tented areas, low-roofed "outdoor" shopping areas) as well as schools are a big pusher of COVID in California at this point. Tons of parties among college students (still on break, not facing much in-person learning any time soon), and other private gatherings are plentiful...

Are other states doing this?

McMaster: Those in Phase 1A have until Jan. 15 to get vaccine or ‘go to back of the line’

"COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Gov. Henry McMaster announced a new deadline he says will increase the speed of the vaccine rollout in South Carolina.

The governor said anyone who qualifies to be vaccinated under Phase 1A of the state’s plan must either get the first dose of the vaccine, or make an appointment to do so, by January 15. If they do not do so by that time, they will 'go to the back of the line,' McMaster said."

MEANWHILE . . . South Carolina has surpassed 300,000 confirmed cases and our percent positive is still over 30%.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) | SCDHEC

302,003 confirmed positive cases (+2,285)
5,068 confirmed deaths (+12)

Total Tests Received - 3,818,562
Percent Positive - 30.7%

The Latest: U.S. health officials say they plan to stick with two-dose vaccine regimen

HHS secretary shoots down idea of changing vaccine protocol.

Well thank goodness. what a stupid idea it was in the first place to change protocol- a new protocol that wasn't involved in the trials.

Hmm - I don't know of any other state doing this and I think it's a very bad idea. The most vulnerable people (the very elderly) are also going to find it harder to get to vaccine sites. They should not have to go to the back of the line just because they miss their window. It will be complicated, but each site can hold a few spaces for earlier tiers each day and many of us in later tiers will be happy to come in within minutes, if we are texted that a space is open.

I would not expect this to all go smoothly, but deadlines aren't going to help with the issue. I do understand that the Governor is worried about holding vaccines for people who don't show up - but that should be the message "If you don't make an appointment and go in when your tier is called up, your spot may be given to someone else."

This is especially true since in both tiers 1A and 1B (most places), some of the criteria are medical. People with medical issues may need some leniency here.

Once again, that's a massive positivity rate - but at least they're publishing it.

I hope you get your vaccine soon, Rose.

Wondering what will happen with the elderly who don’t drive?
It’s got to be planned ahead with a driver outside of the household- looks like a 45 minute drive without traffic one way.

RSBM - Thank you, 10ofRods! But I don't think it will be soon. I'm not a part of Phase A or B; in fact, I don't think I'd even qualify for Phase C! So it will be a while. Still wearing my masks and stocked UP on Lysol spray and wipes (got a lot as Christmas gifts, ha ha).

Anti masker gets Covid- while gasping for breath begs people to take it seriously so
HE GETS DEATH THREATS NOW

I didn't read article, but I don't condone any sort of death threats.

That said, I have very little, if any, sympathy for him. So far as I'm concerned, he's taking up hospital space from others who took the virus seriously. He's risking the lives of those medical personnel who are trying to save his.

Glad he's helping, and that he's had his "Come To Reality" moment, like Dr. Drew also recently had. But it's because of people like him that we're where we are now as a country. He is but 1 of many, and his pleadings won't even register a blip in terms of being noticed by his fellow non-believers. His attitude, multiplied by millions, has contributed to many of the 350+ Thousand Dead.

I had compassion months ago, when there was still a tiny degree of uncertainty. But we're nearly 1 year into this now, and when I hear someone like him, pleading with others, I can only think that he's an Idiot and a Moron, and why should I even bother listening? If he recovers, I'm sure he'll go back to believing all of the other crackpot things he's always believed in. Oh....he may get wise to this Covid-19 thing, because it Personally Affected Him, but all the other Non-Reality garbage will still be circulating in his "brain." My point being, if he was willing to disbelieve a Global Pandemic for 10 months, he'll disbelieve something equally important in the future.

It's a shame that people need to suffer before they give a d**n about others. And it's a significant factor in why we're where we are today.

I totally agree with you,-- I mentioned the death threats to show how unhinged
we are as a country-- someone disagrees or doesnt like what someone said, and
they generate a death threat- it is horrible
