Amid COVID-19 surge, ambulance crews in L.A. County told to conserve oxygen, not to transport patients who have little chance of survival | KTLA

The situation in L.A. County hospitals is so critical that ambulance crews have been advised to try to cut back on their use of oxygen and not to bring to hospitals patients who have virtually no chance of survival. Officials now say they need to focus on patients with a greater chance of surviving.

I found this article from way back in 2020 (LOL Dec 27). It reports on the misinformation campaign (regarding the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine) being waged by an infamous ant-vaxer.

The author refutes the arguments put forth. Might be helpful if you frequent social media platforms or expect to hear similar mis/disinformation from real humans you may encounter.

It also defines how a vaccine like Pfizer's actually work.

"A pharmacist who was arrested on charges that he intentionally sabotaged more than 500 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine at a Wisconsin hospital was “an admitted conspiracy theorist” who believed the vaccine could harm people and “change their DNA,” according to the police in Grafton, Wis., where the man was employed."

As with everything, it takes time for the body to build up an immunity. It takes time for a cut to heal, it takes time for sunburn to heal. Are they thinking "oh, I have had the vaccine, now I am immune"?

Experts have reiterated over and over that you must still wear a mask and social distance after the vaccine.

Masks I can do. I’m used to it.
(except when it’s 100 degrees and 90% humidity)

Social distancing?
3 months? 6 months? All of 2021?
:(

Thank you for posting. Andrew Wakefield was struck off the medical register having put the fear of god into thousands of parents with his lies about vaccines. His name is mud here. It is good to point out that even seemingly upstanding professionals can talk out of their arses sometimes!

Social distancing just means staying 3 feet away from another person. We have been able to manage it for 10 months now. You get used to it. We had a hug-less, kiss-less Christmas and New Years this year, but still had a lot of laughs and togetherness.
I see my DD, SIL, other family and friends regularly ... we social distance. Pretend to blow kisses to each other.

I have a US friend who sees her little nieces a lot. They have developed a way of hugging. They stand socially distanced away from each other, facing each other, and hug themselves hard and laugh.
I admire her so much. Every time she posts on FB, she seems to be inadvertently showing people different ways to stay happy, healthy, and together.

So now the ambos are supposed to make a determination whether their patient is worthy of giving oxygen and transporting to hospital.
They are not doctors, they are trained to keep a person alive until they can get them to ER.

Those poor ambulance crews. And their patients. :(

That's exactly what I was thinking. They mostly only know basic first aid and are not medically trained to determine who can survive any particular ordeal or won't. And if they decide a patient isn't worth saving, will they just leave the patient at home, on the streets, or...? What a horrendous situation.

Can you imagine what they have to tell the families? "No sorry, we can't transport him/her" "Why???"
What do they tell them? We think they are going to die anyway? The families likely won't accept that, and what does that mean for the ambulance crews? Abuse?

Being able to see family is key. It’s the lack of physical contact for almost a year that’s drained our older population. Some are unable to sit outside. Just waving at people from a window. We’ve managed but just barely holding on.
It would be wonderful if the family lived nearby and could safely visit.

I dont know Mimosa, mixed blessings. My parents are 10 mins drive away and I've seen them maybe four times last year. Twice outside, in our garden and theirs when numbers were much lower late summer, twice dropping things off for them. Its great to be so close just in case they need me, but I'm too scared of harming them to visit. And my mum is scared of us too. It's a so near and yet so far situation.

From the article,
"While another person wrote: 'They wasted the first lockdown not creating an effective system for testing, tracing and isolation, so not surprised they've wasted months not planning a rapid vaccine rollout.'."

Interesting perspective. Every country has been spinning. We know what to do, and how it should be done, the disconnect is in the implementation. How did they manage the WPA program during the "Great Depression"? It was up and running within 3 months of Roosevelt in office.

We have so much more technology now, what seems to be the problem? I have seen people who have masters degrees in Public Health Administration, who seem to not understand the crucial aspect of timing in Contact Tracing. It is ineffective five and six days later. Why even bother?!

What is the problem with our society now? And let's talk about schools, they had SIX MONTHS, from March to September, to figure out how to educate students...and it has been such a dismal fail, I have personally had several friends quit working to homeschool their kids.
