There could be up to 534,000 Covid-19 deaths by February 27, according to an ensemble forecast by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- which would amount to about one death for every minute of the pandemic.

Wednesday's forecast of another 80,000 people dying over this month comes as health experts race to ramp up vaccinations to get ahead of the more transmissible variants, which they fear could send cases surging once again.

I'm interested to know if any of you who have had side effects from the vaccine are on any of the recommended supplements to boost your immune system. I've only had the first shot and I'm ok. But I started thinking this morning about what the variables could be.

I'm currently taking:
Vitamin C
NAC
Quercetin
Vitamin D
Melatonin
And sometimes zinc

I had significant but typical side effects from my Pfizer vaccine. First shot was body aches, headache, fever. Etc. Second shot was slightly worse and I was very tired.
The only supplement I take is a multivitamin for women over 50.
ETA- I am a healthy, no daily meds in my mid 50’s.

Meanwhile in NC....
(Duck hunting is essential?)

https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article248591820.html

“Two North Carolina state legislators have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past two days.

Rep. Brian Turner, a Democrat from Asheville, announced he tested positive for COVID-19 Monday. And on Tuesday morning, Sen. Bill Rabon, a Republican from Winnabow, said he also tested positive.

Rep. Jason Saine, a Republican from Lincolnton, confirmed both Turner and Rabon were on a duck hunting trip over the weekend with other lawmakers including himself. Other Republicans on the trip included Sen. Jim Perry of Kinston, Rep. John Bell of Goldsboro, Rep. Bobby Hanig of Powells Point.”

“State Sen. Natasha Marcus, a Democrat from Davidson, tested positive for COVID-19, she said in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon.

“I have not been to work in person since January 13th, have not attended social gatherings, and have limited trips outside my home to just a couple trips a week for essential needs,” Marcus said in the post. “I hope that I’ve avoided spreading it to anyone else and that this news serves as a reminder to be extra careful in our efforts to combat this contagious virus.”

I had significant side effects, I’m in my 40’s with no major underlying conditions, and I take all of the above (but always zinc).

I will add I’m now on day 6 of prolonged exposure to my daughter who is positive (and pretty sick, she got monoclonal antibodies on Monday which was day 3 of symptoms for her). I’m still testing negative and have zero symptoms. I’m just over 2 wks post second vaccine. So far, so good.

UK Launches ‘World First' Trial Mixing Different Covid Vaccines for First and Second Doses

More at link
  • A trial is being launched in the U.K. to explore whether using different COVID-19 vaccines for the first and second doses works.
  • The aim is to make nationwide vaccination programs more flexible and to explore whether mixed vaccines can even enhance the immune response.
  • The trial is being led by the University of Oxford and run by the National Immunisation Schedule Evaluation Consortium.

My worry is at the point when those who Want the vaccine have received it, and we hit a wall, with the majority of those not yet vaccinated, refusing to get it. If 30-40% won't get vaccinated, there will be no way to reach herd immunity in the U.S.

Unfortunately, I think at that point, we just let the ones who refuse to get vaccinated take their chances with covid. As long as our healthcare system can handle the positive cases that need care, what else can we really do? Once we have done what we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones with the vaccine, if others choose not to vaccinate and end up getting very sick or dying, that’s on them. We all make choices about what risks we are willing to take.

Literally everyone I know, who caught Covid, has a child in the "chain". Whether it was a grandchild, or caught it from a relative who has a child.

Related, kinda.

So I am on a Bluey page on the old book of face...and some woman posted that she was off to Disneyland with her fam, and wanted some Bluey inspired ears cos Bluey is kinda Disney. So me being me, put “have you forgotten about the global pandemic?”...and it went off...so many people who just don’t have a care in the world for other people...it was crazy! I guess the ignorance outside of WS is HUGE and I didn’t realise how bad it was...one woman had family who was a doctor and they were going soon, which meant it must be ok...and the old “just live your life”...

So basically I retreated and came back to my safe place!

In other news Perth, WA is out of the snap lockdown at 6pm Friday evening, pending any new cases in the meantime. Masks to stay until 14/02/2021, and various restrictions. But kids are back to school on Monday! Wooo Hoooo ;-))

Ah, yeah. I've thought of the Darwinian theory also. But I'm so so glad that after 50 years, the normal public is being educated that the vaccines are not symptoms of disease, but the immune response.

I think that this is the #1 message for folks now from public health as to education, and I hope they keep drilling that message. I've had 3 opportunities just today to reinforce such!

Well it looks like my country will be in lock down for another 2 months...

State of emergency in Latvia to be extended until 6 April - Baltic News Network - News from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia

Feb. 3, 2021

On Tuesday, 2 February, an agreement was reached at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and Crisis Management Council to extend the state of emergency in Latvia until 6 April, as media representatives were informed by Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš.

To limit the spread of Covid-19, the government declared a state of emergency on 9 November 2020. A number of restrictions were imposed for the duration of the state of emergency.

On Tuesday Healthcare Ministry proposed a solution – end the state of emergency if Covid-19 infection rates go down thrice.

Nightowl 1975 and SoCalDavidS. Don’t go throwing everyone in the category of those not getting the vaccine not wanting it and it’s on them if they die. I am one of those who will not be taking the vaccine. I have spoken with many doctors and all advise me not to take it. I have ONE pain med I can take. I have ONE antibiotic I can take. When I take the antibiotic I have to remove it from the capsule. I separate the bitter powder and out on several pieces of bread, roll it and try to swallow. Taking it out of the capsule removes the coloring in the capsule.
I have died. Went into anaphylactic shock. Lucky for me one doctor did not give up and kept working on me. I was careful for years and then doctors gave me meds that they assured me was safe. Don’t trust anything doctors say and research everything now. The meds that were safe were not. The meds caused more issues...like explosive bloody noses, walking into walls because I could not see and had no balance. Partial blindness, blood pressure so high it should have killed me....all from meds with iodine and or sulfur in them. And the doctors said they were safe! Wrong!
Now if you say, go to a compound pharmacy....they are dangerous. These pharmacies are suppose to mix compounds together that are safe for the patient keeping away what the patient is allergic to. Wrong. I had a major reaction. I called and they said “we don’t know what’s in the different compounds that are sent to us, we just mix it up!”
So, to stay alive as along as I can, I will NOT be taking the the vaccine. It’s a no win situation. I keep watch to see how people react to the vaccine. I definitely would not take a 2 shot Covid vaccine as the second vaccine shot has many side effects. IF I could take one it would be a one shot vaccine.
I will continue to wear a mask, self distance and be as careful as I can.
It’s not fun to know you are slowly losing the ability to breathe. The beautiful white lights on the other side are beyond anything we have here on Earth. Like I said if it was not for the one doctor I would not be here.
So I have no real choice....die taking the vaccine or die not taking the vaccine. I worry everyday about this.

Please remember not all the people that say they are not taking the vaccine is because they do not want to, there may be a real reason they cannot.

I do get real upset with those who refuse to follow any guidelines and in some places the law. No masks, many people in one place, they are going to rebel! They don’t care. Those are the people we really need to worry about. The purposely don’t care. Not always the ones who don’t take the vaccine.

From what I understand, what they're charging--in some cases--is an "administration fee." If the patient is insured, the fee is charged to the insurer. If they're not insured, it's supposed to be charged to some government payment plan, but some of the medical offices are charging the uninsured patient directly for that fee.

I don't think the fee is much, around $20, or so, but for someone who doesn't have money to put food on the table already, it might be a deterrent.

That's why information on the

CARES Act Provider Relief Fund

recommends that you are clear about the fees before going and that you ask them why they are pushing the cost onto the patient when the Cares program is not set up that way.

Why are they charging the uninsured when the vaccine program is especially designed to be free to the uninsured?

Then go somewhere else for the vaccine. It is free and having to call around to find a place that is doing it right can be time consuming but is worth that time.

People have a right to call and ask questions and stand up for themselves, to be proactive with their healthcare and what they are being charged.

I wouldn't trust a vaccine site that can't even follow the proper instructions for getting reimbursed. I want a vaccine site that dots all their I's and crosses all their T's.

I'm still concerned. When you have 330 Million people, and even assuming only 1/2 of them really want to get the vaccine, you still have a ton of people willing to get it.

My worry is at the point when those who Want the vaccine have received it, and we hit a wall, with the majority of those not yet vaccinated, refusing to get it. If 30-40% won't get vaccinated, there will be no way to reach herd immunity in the U.S.

You can still reach herd immunity by having enough of the unvaccinated getting the virus and building up their own immunities. Opinion.

Hi all, took a little time out from here because I was feeling so anxious for my parents. Anyway, good news - today they had their vaccines. They had the Oxford vaccine. From leaving their home to being back safely, the whole process took just 30 minutes and they said it was mega efficient. They are 74 and 76.

The vaccine site is an Odeon cinema in their home town, pharmacy managed.
