Senate approves budget resolution as Democrats rush to pass Covid relief bill

  • Vice President Kamala Harris had to cast her first tiebreaking vote in the evenly split chamber.

A little concerning. I def. don't want to scare anyone away from the vaccine and I will def. take it when I get the chance. They are working on a clinic here at my retirement community. This was reported in our local paper yesterday. I am thinking she had an allergic reaction to the vaccine:

Gloucester resident dies within hours of receiving Pfizer vaccine (wtkr.com)

GLOUCESTER, Va. - "She could bellow from the bottom of her soul," said Lisa Jones.

58-year-old Gloucester resident Drene Keyes was a gifted singer, a mother and grandmother of six.

"She was such a loving and generous person," said Jones.

Unexpectedly, Lisa lost her mother on Saturday within a couple of hours after Keyes received the Pfizer vaccine in Warsaw.

"Right before she left, I was helping her put her shoes on," she said.

Keyes had diabetes, sleep apnea and was obese. Her job made her eligible for the first dose. So, on Saturday, Keyes got the Pfizer vaccine and spent 15 minutes in the mandatory observation period.

The coworker she was with said she was trying to get in the car and said, "Something is not right. Something's not right."

Doctors later on told Jones her mother couldn't breathe and started vomiting. They did administer an EpiPen, CPR and oxygen as well. (note from me: I read they gave her two EpiPen jabs, one in her thigh and one in her arm)

She was quickly rushed to VCU Tappahannock Hospital.

"They tried to remove fluid from her lungs. They called it 'flash pulmonary edema,' and doctors told me that it can be caused by anaphylaxis," said Jones. "The doctor told me that often during anaphylaxis, chemicals are released inside of a person's body and can cause this to happen."

My parents up in Northern Virginia were able to get the Moderna jab yesterday. Father is 90, my mother is 88. My disabled sister who is 61 was also able to get it with them. So far, no issues or side effects.

I'm interested to know if any of you who have had side effects from the vaccine are on any of the recommended supplements to boost your immune system. I've only had the first shot and I'm ok. But I started thinking this morning about what the variables could be.

I'm currently taking:
Vitamin C
NAC
Quercetin
Vitamin D
Melatonin
And sometimes zinc

I am taking the same list, except for the Melatonin (can you remind us of why that was considered favorable... I forget). And I take Liposomal Vitamin C for better absorption.

I also take significant B complex, for overall immune system energy.

I get horrific headaches with zinc, but take a half every few days.

Related, kinda.

So I am on a Bluey page on the old book of face...and some woman posted that she was off to Disneyland with her fam, and wanted some Bluey inspired ears cos Bluey is kinda Disney. So me being me, put “have you forgotten about the global pandemic?”...and it went off...so many people who just don’t have a care in the world for other people...it was crazy! I guess the ignorance outside of WS is HUGE and I didn’t realise how bad it was...one woman had family who was a doctor and they were going soon, which meant it must be ok...and the old “just live your life”...

So basically I retreated and came back to my safe place!

In other news Perth, WA is out of the snap lockdown at 6pm Friday evening, pending any new cases in the meantime. Masks to stay until 14/02/2021, and various restrictions. But kids are back to school on Monday! Wooo Hoooo ;-))

geezzzz.. I always repeat that I learn something new every day! Had no idea what Bluey was, had to look it up. Voila.

After the 2016 election, I totally cleaned up my FB page, so it is a very safe comfy place. I can get facts anywhere, and don't need my FB page to have such ignorant or selfish opinions...

But I know what you mean about " local or group pages" on FB..... they can go off the rails in an instant. I remember a couple of posts that I just could not stay silent on, because it was such mis-information.... but I really became concerned about safety... realizing "we know where you live" was for real in a couple of responses. Never again on those local group pages....

Ah, yeah. I've thought of the Darwinian theory also. But I'm so so glad that after 50 years, the normal public is being educated that the vaccines are not symptoms of disease, but the immune response.

I think that this is the #1 message for folks now from public health as to education, and I hope they keep drilling that message. I've had 3 opportunities just today to reinforce such!

Me too... We all must do our part to reinforce. As we have discussed the immune system responses so many times here on WS, I take it for granted right now. But just in the last few days I have had discussions with a few acquaintances, and they had no idea this was the case. One was ready to cancel a vaccine appointment!!!! And I said no, no, no. I think he heard me.

Good information to know:

Side effect of COVID-19 vaccine mirrors breast cancer symptom, doctors say | WAVY.com

Doctors are reporting a side effect of the COVID-19 vaccine that mirrors a symptom of breast cancer.

“We have been seeing swollen lymph nodes for a couple weeks now,” said Dr. Holly Marshall, with University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

“It’s actually a normal response that the body has to the vaccine,” said Marshall. “It means that the body is making antibodies to fight the COVID-19 infection.”

(snip)

Marshall said doctors made the discovery because the lymph nodes seen under the arm are included on a mammogram. Patients can also feel them.

Marshall said the swollen lymph nodes are on the same side as the placement of the vaccine.

(snip)

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 11% of vaccine recipients experience swollen lymph nodes after one dose, and 16% do so after the second dose.

“Sometimes with other vaccines, occasionally we will see swollen lymph nodes, but it was a surprise how many we’ve been seeing,” said Marshall.

Marshall said patients are seeing swollen lymph nodes two to four days after the vaccine and they decrease in size after two to four weeks. If they persist longer than that, Marshall said they need to
be evaluated.

White House Covid-19 Response Adviser Andy Slavitt just announced Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has mobilized more than 1,000 active duty troops to help with coronavirus vaccine administration around the country. It’s an initial FEMA request.

WHOA, this is unexpected.

5,077 new daily deaths

Doesn't appear to align with United States Coronavirus: 27,275,048 Cases and 467,005 Deaths - Worldometer.

I know they perhaps use different data, but seems larger difference for yesterday's numbers.
The surge, the highest number to date, seems to be largely due to a backlog of data that was just released from Indiana, adding 1,500 deaths to the countrywide number, according to the Wall Street Journal.

US records more than 5,000 Covid deaths in single day after data audit

I'm rural. IMO, most everyone I know personally is taking it seriously. They are social distancing and wearing masks, and taking precuations when they have to go out. There are a handful however, who are over it and have been for a long time now. They just want life back to normal and are pretty much living as if nothing is wrong. ETA-As far as the town as a whole, I think most are taking it seriously and taking precautions. We have had many test positive and we have sadly lost several in the community. IMO-alot have been work and nursing home spread.

I do like their update graphics. I wish they’d list hospitalizations though.
(Eta-I see the numbers were due to data upload or something)

I’m surprised not to see more “please don’t super bowl party” warning and things Maybe they’re just not bothering. (Or I’ve just missed it)

Saw a fun informative video of dr Fauci recently though. I think posted by the White House Twitter? I’ll see if I can find it.

Mass is sort of surprisingly doing meh at vaccinating. They’re working on it.

In Mississippi, Black residents are desperate to get vaccinated. But they face access barriers.

In California, an uneven vaccination effort deepens class divide

Video: Ashish Jha says race against virus variants makes him nervous | Boston.com
With the recent [URL='https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/02/03/covid-news-wyoming-idaho-minnesota-brazilian-variant-coronavirus/4362107001/']downward trend for cases, hospitalizations, and deaths across the country and the ramping up of the vaccinations, the dean of the Brown University School of Public Health said Thursday on “Good Morning America” that there is reason for feeling heartened about the path of the pandemic going forward.

“There is reason for optimism … and if these variants weren’t around, I would say we’re on a glide path towards better,” Jha said. “The thing that, unfortunately, makes me nervous about the next few weeks, the next couple of months, are these variants. But beyond that, I think we should look at where we are now as clearly positive news.”
