Comment: Are we that stupid ????

U.S. Air Travel Is Rising Fast, Despite C.D.C. Warnings - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

U.S. airports had 1.357 million people pass through on Friday, the highest number on any day since March 2020, just after the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.

[snip]
Still, nonessential flights go against the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which warned last week that even fully vaccinated people should avoid travel unless necessary.

It looks as though the US is getting ready to have a surplus, so maybe we should send some to Australia. We have no need for more vaccines than we have people, I shouldn't think. What good is stockpiling when people around the world are still at risk?

COVID-19 vaccine, scarce now, could be in surplus across US by April

Biden boosts US vaccine stockpile as world waits

have been thinking and waiting to hear this very thing.....
If 46% of Repubs won't get virus, then ship it the hell off our shores........

Thanks, Dixie. Susan reports very accurately, and succinctly covers our entire situation. Good to hear that the followers are hearing about things, in this part of the world, exactly how they are.

I no longer mention the few cases that escape via quarantine here (doctor, quarantine workers contracting the virus) as we currently are still managing to keep things under community control - through contact tracing, isolation, and mass testing.

Birx on Trump's disinfectant 'injection' moment: 'I still think about it every day'

More at link
The former coronavirus response coordinator in the Trump White House, Dr. Deborah Birx, says she still thinks about the moment last year when she sat silently while former President Donald Trump raised the possibility of injecting disinfectant into people to treat COVID-19.

"Frankly, I didn't know how to handle that episode," Birx said Monday in an interview with ABC News' Terry Moran for ABC News Live's "The Breakdown." "I still think about it every day."

While Trump was mocked and condemned for suggesting such a dangerous idea, and his comments became symbolic of his response to the pandemic, Birx also was criticized for not speaking up more forcefully in the moment.

She said Monday her nearly three decades of military service had kicked in then, and that she only spoke briefly to say "not a treatment" when Trump asked her if ultraviolet rays and heat could be used to treat the coronavirus in people.

"You can see how extraordinarily uncomfortable I was," Birx said, noting that at the time Trump had been speaking to a different official in the room. "Those of you who have served in the military know that there are discussions you have in private with your commanding officers and there's discussions you had in public."

It was an attention grabbing title, as they usually are. When reading the article, it explains properly .... Pres Biden has no intention of not retaining enough vaccines for every single US citizen.

Just to add, some in the administration are urging him to share (according to the article). But I personally think that the only way that will happen - before all US citizens are vaccinated - is if the shelf life of the vaccinations is nearing, and there are US citizens who wont take the vaccine.
Then they may transfer vaccines to other people who will use them quickly.
The US will have to also figure how many undocumented migrants are here and how many are crossing our borders. Many citizens have held off from being vaccinated due to fear-mongering on social media, etc.

Dr. Birx legitimatized the minimization of the pandemic. She was the "rubber stamp" of medical science in the Circus tent.

I remember watching the pressers, and wondering where the data was coming from, because it was not the same data I was seeing first hand. Dr. Birx was explaining the data, and now she says that she never saw the data until the news conferences....yet she continued to "explain" the numbers!
Deborah Birx, the former White House coronavirus coordinator, said Trump was fed 'parallel data' that she hadn't approved, which he then presented to the public

How are these two stories related? I'm not following.

I received letter today from our health department telling me to ring my GP and make an appointment for the vaccine.

As of two days ago, there is 1.1% of the world fully covid-vaccinated.

True, the undocumented migrants will have to be counted as well when figuring the number of vaccines we need. We can't leave them out.

But, we know a large percentage of Americans won't get the vaccine, so we don't have to stockpile more than we will actually be using. JMOO.

The media is sending the wrong signal, in my opinion. They keep running stories about someone who reacts badly or dies after being vaccinated. And, while those reactions might be from the vaccine, why are they not offering the statistics behind those stories? Millions have been vaccinated--when looked at in perspective--very, VERY few suffer more than just a sore arm. But, when the media publishes those stories, it makes folks think the vaccine is more dangerous than it is.

That's irresponsible, but the media has always used sensationalism to sell subscriptions.

I wonder what would happen if they passed a federal law that said any media that publishes an article about side effects or death, must also publish (in the subhead) the total number of people who have been vaccinated and the number of people who have died from Covid virus, itself? Make them put it in perspective.

Besides the people who are leary, we also have the traditional anti-vaxxers who oppose all vaccines on a natural health basis. It's unlikely anyone will convince them. They're a force to be reckoned with.

Can't believe this is our second St Patrick's Day in lockdown. How time flies! (Yet also crawls...) Last year everyone was full of goodwill and solidarity and stayed home pretty much uncomplainingly. This year the mood is a little different...

Major garda operation under way for St Patrick's Day

It comes amid warnings that compliance with Covid-19 restrictions by members of the public has deteriorated and that "an inevitable level of weariness" is having consequences for policing.

Three public order units and a peaceful crowd management unit have been deployed to various parts of Dublin city, along with the dog and mounted units.

(...)

Gardaí have cordoned-off key locations in Dublin this morning where they suspect anti-vaccine, anti-mask and anti-lockdown protesters might gather.

(...)

Gardaí say they are not only concerned about multiple protests planned through social media by disparate groups, but also about house and street parties and groups gathering outdoors to drink alcohol in the good weather.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has led calls from the Government, health experts and gardaí for people to avoid social activity today that is likely to increase the spread of Covid-19.

Some 2,500 gardaí will be tasked with enforcing the 5km travel rule and clamping down on house parties and other gatherings that contravene public health guidelines.

Mr Martin last night appealed to the public to avoid social gatherings and to enjoy a "safe St Patrick's Day".

(...)

He said that the presence of a more transmissible and dangerous variant of Covid-19 emphasises the need for people to remain vigilant.

In the US, the percentage is quite a bit higher, ranging currently from about 8% to 18% in individual states. Of course, we're still a hotbed of infections--perhaps not as bad as Europe, but still pretty bad.

Locally, the infection rate has dropped substantially, so that's a positive, even though Kansas has been slow to get the vaccine going. I think just the fact they vaccinated long-term care home first has had a beneficial impact.

I hope you get the vaccine soon--in the numbers you need to keep all your countrymen safe!

I don't think my country is concerned about the anti-vaxxers, because we can still achieve herd immunity without their cooperation. They are a relatively small group in the big picture.

Australia is also being quite loud and factual about the amount of people who have had complications from the vaccines. The word is being published from the mouths of the health experts.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath .... “I want to reassure people that we have absolute confidence in our vaccines in Australia, as the Therapeutic Goods Administration has said all along, that there is a risk category there in relation to people who have allergic reactions,” she told reporters on Wednesday morning.

Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said the government's expert group on vaccines met today and decided, "based on the evidence, there was no reason to pause the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Australia".
He said the experts had looked at the rollout of the vaccine in the UK, where 11 million people had received the AstraZeneca vaccine with no increased incidence in blood clots.

"I remain confident that it is safe," he said.
"The Therapeutic Goods Administration is aware of the issue and also doesn't see any link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clots."

The percentage is even higher in Gibraltar, Israel, Seychelles, Bermuda, Cayman Isands, Isle of Man, Bahrain, Guernsey, and Serbia .. whose (fully) vaccination rate leads the pack.

It seems that the 4-5 year projection might be quite accurate - as far as getting everyone vaccinated (those who will take up the vaccines).

There are also a bunch of countries where we have no real idea of what is happening .. China and Russia among them.

An experimental COVID-19 vaccine has been created for and used on animals.

The pandemic has not left pets completely unharmed. Arizona researchers say more than 120 dogs and cats have contracted COVID-19 in the U.S. over the last year.

And Dr. Campbell is pissed about it...as much as Dr. C gets mad - he has discussed before and covered it yesterday also in this video. The WHO is having a meeting on Thursday with heads of agencies in EU that did the vaccine shut down.
