Mass. to See Big Drop in Johnson & Johnson Vaccines. Here's Why
More at link
Starting next week, Massachusetts will see a major decrease in shipments of Johnson & Johnson's single-dose vaccine.

Massachusetts received more than 100,000 doses this week, but it will only receive just over 12,000 doses next week, according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.

The Biden administration said shipments from Johnson & Johnson will be down more than 80% nationwide.

Nearly 40% of Marines have declined Covid-19 vaccine - CNNPolitics
More at link
Nearly 40% of US Marines are declining Covid-19 vaccinations, according to data provided to CNN on Friday by the service, the first branch to disclose service-wide numbers on acceptance and declination.

As of Thursday, approximately 75,500 Marines have received vaccines, including fully vaccinated and partially vaccinated service men and women. About 48,000 Marines have chosen not to receive vaccines, for a declination rate of 38.9%.
CNN has reached out to the other services for acceptance and declination rates.
The corresponding acceptance rate for vaccinations among Marines -- 61.1% -- is not far off the military estimate of two-thirds, or about 66%

Question - my bro got his AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday - and he said he sees colors more intensely. Anyone else have that "side effect" who've had the vaccine?

I just received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and I was so ill for 24 hours: very severe aches and pains all over my body, extremely tired. Could not walk, just laid down for hours. Horrid. :(:(:( Now ok.
Doctor stated with AstraZeneca, the first dose reaction, is more severe than the second, if you have a bad reaction.
With Psizer , the second dose may be more severe.
But, Colours not intense.

Anybody watch nightly news on NBC tonight? I think I must be dreaming.
The last segment was about all the things that people are doing now THAT HE PANDEMIC IS ENDING-- you know, like going to the dentist (that one is ok), planning weddings and other events involving lots of people-- I was screaming at the TV-- THE PANDEMIC HAS NOT ENDED YOU FOOLS--- The reporter actually said "now that the pandemic is ending"---- That is such irresponsible reporting I could hardly believe it.

Sigh...

I was just on the phone with one of my bffs who is a front line respiratory therapist. I asked her, “Are you guys getting busier yet?” She said, “Yes, how did you know?”. I had to remind her I follow this stuff 24/7, and explained I’m watching the rest of the world as an indicator:

WS: Stats and Information from Other Countries
(Note ALL the countries with record new cases, deaths, and LOCKDOWNS.)

I also asked her if she is seeing younger patients, to which she replied “yes”. :(

Super depressing, this whole thing.

Speaking of younger patients:

They need to vaccinate these kids -- they are spreading the virus all over the place

My friend and I were juuuuuust talking about that, she said yes, boosters this fall, but she is not a doctor, it was her opinion.

Mickey, not sure if you saw this video, please take a look at this short 4 min video if you didn’t - It discusses the potential of covid becoming an endemic in a very depressing, yet realistic (imo) presentation. Worth a watch, imo - as I said previously, the YouTube comments shredded it as “fear mongering“ and “hoax“, but that’s no surprise. That’s the case under every covid video (such comments). I personally thought this video was clear and had academic value, jmo. Dr. Mike and others have also said this is a possibility, that Covid could become an “endemic”.

I don't think anybody knows for sure as this has not been addressed yet by the scientific community. We don't even know for sure how long the vaccines we are getting are effective. They are saying at least 6 months. My guess is that we will need a booster shot but we shall see

I recall “boosters” being mentioned as a possibility for some time now. Iirc, Dr. Gottlieb spoke about this some months ago.

Upon a quick google of “covid booster”:

There was one thing I maaaay disagree with with the doctor in that video- he said the next few years won’t be nearly as bad as the past year - I’m not so sure, jmo, with some of these variants showing not only increased transmissibility (which is CRAZY to me, because it was already sooooo contagious), more severe disease, infecting younger folks & potentially kids worse, possible vaccine compromise and potentially reduced future efficacy with sooooo many variants...not to mention the second and third waves of the 1918 flu were beyond horrific.

Thankfully many are, and will be protected with vaccination. And really smart scientists all over the world are all over this, 24/7. But these darn variants, there are so many of them, popping up like crazy. They worry me. And there are just not enough people vaccinated right now.

THE GREAT news is that less elderly are dying (except in Italy, where they didn’t prioritize the elderly), and so much progress has been made in the States and vaccine rollout. Not so good for some other countries, though, as we’ve talked about.

eta / source re: Italy / from Italy thread:
Has Italy been vaccinating the wrong people? Its daily coronavirus death tolls suggest so.

“At a point when the pandemic has become a race between those vaccines and a more lethal variant, most Western European nations have managed to push down their death rate through a combination of lockdowns and vaccinations. Italy’s death rate, though, is much the same as it was 3 1/2months ago, despite receiving the same proportion of doses as other European Union members. On Wednesday, the country reported another 627 victims of the virus, the highest daily figure since early January.“

[...]

“The data shows why Italy remains so exposed: Among European Union countries, it ranks toward the very bottom in inoculating people in their 70s — a group that is still highly vulnerable to the ravages of the virus. Only 2.2 percent of that age group is fully vaccinated. Every other age group in Italy — including people in their 20s and 30s — has received a higher proportion of full protection.“

wow that makes me so sad
Wasn’t that intense? I couldn’t even comment.

Ummm, someone here mentioned endemic over a year ago  as to expectation of the direction. And that was even before the variants added to the mix.

Boosters minimally for added protection with the new variants coming at us continually?
