CDC plans to drop mask requirements for fully vaccinated people (nbcnews.com)

The guidance is based on research showing the high effectiveness of the vaccines.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to announce that people who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 no longer need to wear masks or physically distance, indoors or outdoors in most circumstances, according to two sources familiar with the recommendations.

The new recommendation comes more than a year after the CDC first recommended that Americans should wear masks to protect against spreading or catching the coronavirus. At that time, the U.S. was logging more than 1,000 Covid-19 deaths per day.

A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the last dose of Covid-19 vaccine. That gives the immune system enough time to develop antibodies against the virus. According to CDC data, more than 35 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated...

Ohio Residents Can Win $1 Million Prize if They Get COVID Vaccines, Gov. Announces
More at link
Officials across the United States are looking for unique solutions to overcome coronavirus vaccine hesitancy, and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine upped the ante in a big way.

In a series of social media posts Wednesday, DeWine announced that the state of Ohio will randomly select five residents who have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and those residents will receive a prize of $1 million.

The drawings will begin on May 26, and will occur on each successive Wednesday for five consecutive weeks, DeWine says:

wow! I wish someone would do that here

Canada has almost caught up to the US on the rate of first vaccinations. Canada is at 42% and the US is at 46%. I know it's not a contest, but it's good to see that the Canadian numbers are going up quickly. We are still way behind on the rate of second doses.

I see that some provinces are starting to talk about a gradual reopening when their vaccination rates hit 70%. (One dose)

Thank goodness we are finally done with mask wearing and social distancing for the vaccinated population. It’s about time!

Yes, it really is good news. The CDC must be confident that those who have been vaccinated will not spread covid, and that is really good to know.

I wonder, though, if some people will stop wearing masks even if they have not been vaccinated, and by doing so, will drive up the infection rate again. The majority of people have not yet been vaccinated. There is an incentive to wear a mask when all those around you are doing so. Keeping up the habit may indirectly help protect those who are still waiting in line for their vaccine.

Vaccines seem to work well against Covid variants. It's also complicated

The question about how Covid-19 vaccines stand up to coronavirus variants often gets distilled to: Do they work?

The simplest answer is yes. People who’ve received one of the highly powerful vaccines don’t need to be too worried about the variants for now, experts say.

But the complete answer is more complicated.

Am curious, do you have the 4 month wait between shots that our 'leaders' have stuck us with??

They made a political (certainly not scientific) decision that we could wait up to 16 weeks between shots.

Added: I have been told 12-16 weeks for the booster.

No idea of how this will affect efficacy or leave people open to increased variants or even encourage more variants because the population is 'partially vaccinated' being hosts for new and worse variants to use as hosts. ugh

Our supply has improved somewhat in the last week or so but the powers that be have also thrown away the plan for vaccinating by age and are now going by postal code for areas where there is 'more COVID', essential workers etc.

Delay in giving second jabs of Pfizer vaccine improves immunity

"giving the Pfizer/BioNTech booster after 12 weeks rather than three produced a much stronger antibody response."

ETA, I was told 12-16 weeks for the 2nd shot

Ya think

I started wearing masks at work in Sept-ish 2019 I have no issues continuing to do so. At work, on transit, inside gatherings/shopping etc. My household and non household family isn’t fully vaxxed yet.

I hadn’t quite caught up on the news today and I saw a pic of a maskless White House and admit to doing this :eek: no link

They all seem pretty confident.
That’s good.

Me personally. I would have waited another 3-4 weeks. And thennnn said ‘ yippee everybody no masks’

Middle and high schools in Mass starting to Vax the small folks. no link

in my very small circle I know one vaxed person catch it from an unvaxed coworker. In the break room. While eating. With a candlestick oh.
So I’ll also continue to pass on indoor dining. Not a going out person anyway.

Last Sunday I went shopping, nekkid, no mask! It was wonderful. I smiled at other people who were daring to be in public without a mask. And met the glares of others behind their mask with a smile. The store clerk offered a mask to me, apparently, it was still a rule. I accepted a mask and put it on.

I wonder what the "rule" at the store will be next Sunday?
