Covid-19 cases are surging in 45 states. In one hot spot, hospitalized patients are younger than ever, doctor says - CNN

Just as health experts predicted, the combination of unvaccinated people and the more contagious Delta strain of coronavirus has led to new Covid-19 surges.

In 45 states, the rates of new cases this past week are at least 10% higher than the rates of new cases the previous week, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

In 34 states, new cases this past week are at least 50% higher than new cases the previous week.

Here we go again but much much earlier in the year/seasons than last year. It will be much harder to get people to re-mask now after the CDC said nah. I don’t know if a reversal of recommendations will even work at this point. I think the recommendation was wrong.

People out there believe the most insane things about the vaccine. They think it will make them really ill. They think being near others vaccinated will or is making them ill. My father sent out some embarrassing mass email yesterday to all our family with a stupid video claiming this. :/ These liars spreading all this disinformation about the vaccine are just guilty of murdering all the people who die because they believe their lies imo.

I have a US friend who just had their first shot, and isn't telling anyone else because he thinks (knows) his family will gang up on him for having the shot.

So I guess we're about to enter the 4th Wave or is it the 5th? Hard to keep track anymore.

Now that we're almost down to the "I Won't Get Vaccinated No Matter What" & the "You Can't Make Me Wear That Damn Mask" folks, I wonder how ugly it's going to get.

Those of us who got vaccinated can now sit back and watch and wait, hoping and praying that a resistant variant does not come along, that lowers the efficacy rate of the 3 major vaccines now available.

For those who keep saying that the CDC screwed up big time when they loosened the guidelines down to basically NOTHING, you're absolutely correct. I wonder how long they will wait before reversing their guidance. I don't wonder what the reaction among the public will be. I expect extreme blow back if/when they do.

Interestingly enough it seems to have arrived almost right on time for Georgia. It started going up near end of June for us last year and this year it's started up near beginning of July. I was afraid of this happening again in the summer.

That's sad but I am not surprised. I didn't admit I got the shot myself to most people because I got it while pregnant. I told my parents but kept it away from others after having friends online talking really bad about the horrible mothers getting vaccinated while pregnant. "How could someone do that to their unborn child?" Probably because keeping ME alive was the best way to keep my baby alive.

Sadly right before I had my baby a woman in one of my due date groups got really sick with covid at 37 weeks and her baby died. Another friend had covid in the 2nd trimester and then ended up with a placental abruption at 37 weeks due to covid. No one seems willing to really factor in the increase in death and damage this now endemic virus is going to cause us. I mean even if we just let it run rampant year round how much greater a burden will this place on the healthcare system?

I don't know...does anyone think that it will eventually mutate into something super mild and we can all get off this train we're on now?

I just saw a news clip with someone from the CDC saying we can't agree to booster shots yet because it might cause even worse side effects. I'm just thinking, "Shut up already!" We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if we are placing any weight on vaccines we will have to have booster shots. These vaccines aren't supposed to literally last the life of this never ending pandemic.

If you start off now fear mongering about the safety of a booster shot that is ALL certain segments of our society will even remember. Who works PR for the CDC? They really suck at this.... All they seem to do is say stuff we already know they are going to have to go back on. Why do they keep doing this, endlessly undermining themselves?

I was just getting used to enjoying my lack of “hygiene theater” routines. Feeling my vaxxed family was safe. And trying not to worry too much HA about my unvaxed ones.
I mask more than most - inside stores -plus work and public transport- and i still see people masked outside even. But most not. we’ve got more people than most states vaxxed. But see Provincetown article - isn’t it fairly safe to assume if you’re vaxxed and get a “mild case” you’re still contagious? We’re screwed. Idk if there are even any test sites running locally.
Hope the Gov keeps our schools masked this year.

It is sad that so many are ill-informed, and make no effort to better inform themselves from esteemed medical sources.
(eg: Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic are respectable and easy places to read up).

My nurse DD got her Pfizer vacs while heavily pregnant because she wanted to give their baby (and herself) some immunities and protections while she could, due to the fact that it will be a long time until there is a covid vac for babies.

The young ER nurse who died worked at the hospital in my hometown. There is much misinformation that is being spewed. My daughter works at this hospital. A couple of FB and Twitter posts she made was a year ago, are being copied and posted. At that time, no vaccines were available for the medical staff. Does the public know if she was vaccinated I don't think so? Did she obtain Covid from a patient?

Of course if you are infected you are contagious.
Vaccinated people can get infected and can infect others. They on average likely have lower virus levels thus less contagious than un-vaccinated people, but that doesn't mean they are not contagious.
