Governor DeSantis is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School. He also served as a JAG officer in the Navy, I believe. The MSM article appears to be strongly biased against him, written from a certain political perspective, a certain narrative. Not everyone agrees on their views of his leadership of the state, and the Covid pandemic.

I do not like DeSantis but he is well educated and intelligent.

Just listening to our morning TV news ... this week we are supposed to start getting 300,000 doses of Pfizer per week, and this should soon be stepped up to 600,000 doses per week, then even more in September.

(To date, we have only been receiving 30,000 doses per week. And that has only been for a matter of months.)

A whole horde of GPs have signed up to administer the Pfizer vaccines. They are also planning to fly into the remote regions and vaccinate our indigenous populations who live there.

I heard that too SA :) Great news, we need to protect out most vulnerable , our remote indigenous communities. They dodged a bullet in the NT last week & you could tell from the Pressers from the premier & chief health officer how relieved they were that they were able to keep delta out .

Yes. :)
We closed our border right away to protect the indigenous who live in our far north also. They migrate between NT & South Australia frequently.

"We are quite vulnerable at the moment — we have very light restrictions in South Australia and we have only a small proportion of our whole community vaccinated."
She said she was "absolutely very concerned" for Aboriginal communities in the state's far north that regularly travelled to and interacted with people from the Northern Territory.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out .

An aged care home where apparently 96% of residents are vaccinated ( I think I heard with Pfizer ) but had 2 covid positive nurses ( un vaccinated) working when infectious , now 5 residents are positive . Only 1/3 of the nurses are vaccinated & now approx 70% off staff are now in quarantine. No plan to Vaccinate the remaining two thirds of the workers til September ( when it becomes mandatory )

Two MORE aged care residents at Sydney facility test positive to COVID

The encouraging news that I heard was that the infected residents are vaccinated, asymptomatic, and in good spirits. They took a couple of them to hospital as a precautionary measure (a man in his 90s and another person in their 80s).

I know they are still vaccinating healthcare workers in my state ... as my DD had her 2nd Pfizer yesterday. And when I had my AZ jab, there were a couple of aged care workers having their jabs at the same time. No excuses for not getting vaccinated, considering their roles.

That's the spin from the Management , different from the families :(

A daughter of one of the covid-positive residents, Kathie Melocco, has taken to social media to share her anger at the handling of the situation inside the facility.

She is furious at reports from the facility that the residents are in “good spirits”, saying that is far from the truth.

“What nonsense,” she wrote.

“My father is terrified and is positive. Staff have been told to not talk to residents to minimise interaction. Please remember they are human and are frightened. Bring in social workers!”

Two-thirds of staff unvaccinated at Sydney aged care home dealing with Covid outbreak

While there are now plans to ramp up the vaccination of SummitCare staff on-site, Sloane said this would need to wait until the end of the current outbreak as a large number of the regular staff had been forced into isolation and the facility could not afford to have more people off sick from potential vaccine side-effects.

“We have had to furlough at least 70% of our registered nurses it is my understanding … basically we have no staff left there. They are all surge workforce,” Sloane said.

Third Olympian tests positive for Covid-19 in Tokyo

As athletes begin arriving in Tokyo ahead of the Olympics, a Serbian rower has tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total of athletes to test positive to three as cases are increasing in some parts of the world.

Should fully vaccinated people continue to wear masks? Experts weigh in. (nbcnews.com)

"Do whatever it takes for Covid to go away," one doctor said. That includes continuing to wear a mask.

More than 156 million people in the U.S. have been fully vaccinated. But even though the Covid-19 vaccines are very effective against all the known coronavirus variants, including the highly transmissible delta variant that is spreading rapidly, some communities and physicians are urging a return to masking.

On Thursday, the St. Louis County and city public health departments issued a warning about the spread of the delta variant and advised a return to masks indoors, even if vaccinated. Earlier in the week, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced it "strongly recommends" that everyone wear a mask indoors after an increase in cases...

67% of adults over 18 have been vaccinated. Between that and the number that have natural immunity we are at herd immunity. Stop living in fear. Fear and stress reduce your ability to fight disease.

I have listened to lots of expert docs and none of them say we are at herd immunity
I think one can have a realistic fear of this virus- especially since there is the Delta variant that is highly transmissible. That does not mean you have to hide in your home. People will do what they feel comfortable with. I am vaccinated: I don't wear a mask to the grocery store but I did wear a mask at a casino-- I think you have to evaluate the situation and be adaptable. The pandemic remains with us- virus is circulating and it is spreading in states where vaccinations are low.

'Staggering' Doubling of Type 2 Diabetes in Kids During Pandemic
'Staggering' Doubling of Type 2 Diabetes in Kids During Pandemic

This article is about two studies that found a disturbing pandemic-related increase in new cases of type 2 diabetes in kids in 2020. The larger study at Children's National Hospital in DC was of "all youth who were newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes [...] from March 11, 2020 to March 10, 2021, and compared those data to the time period March 11, 2019 to March 10, 2020." The other was a small study in Baton Rouge, LA with a different timeframe, but similar results.

I am not shocked to read this, considering the upheaval in normal life that came with the pandemic--staying home, more screen time, less exercise, and so on. But it's very worrisome.

The incidence of type 2 diabetes in children appears to have doubled during the COVID-19 pandemic, data from two new US studies suggest, with the lead investigator of one saying she was "surprised by the staggering increase in cases of type 2 diabetes...and the increase in severity of presentation."

Findings [...] were presented June 25 at the virtual American Diabetes Association (ADA) 81st Scientific Sessions.

Although the two studies differed somewhat in the clinical parameters examined, both revealed a similar doubling of the rates of hospitalizations for type 2 diabetes among youth during 2020 compared with the same time period in 2019, as well as greater severity of metabolic disturbance.

And, as has been previously described with type 2 diabetes in youth, African American ethnicity predominated in both cohorts.

It isn’t surprising really. Kids were at home snacking. They had much less physical activity. Weight has a direct impact on diabetes.

Having the disease would give you at least as much immunity as the vaccine. Viruses normally give you a greater immunity than a vaccine.

My goodness, that information is not true. You don't have a link, so I can only assume that your source is not reliable. It is very important to have reliable facts based on the best information we have to date.

Everyone needs a vaccination, whether they had covid or not, whether they were asymptomatic or had a serious case. The vaccines have proven their effectiveness in the fight against covid. That's a true fact.

Israel will send around 700,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine that are almost due to expire to South Korea, which will send the same amount back at a later date.

South Korea has distributed its existing COVID-19 vaccine stockpiles, and is struggling to obtain more doses with supply tightening, particularly in Asia.

Israel has fully vaccinated around 55 per cent of its population, and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called the deal a "win-win".

This isn't encouraging. I'm glad it's still preventing the most serious illness, but was it overrated to begin with? Or, is it actually losing effectiveness? Is Delta breaking through more than we thought? Any ideas?

Israel on Monday said the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was still very effective in preventing serious illness, while also reporting a decrease in preventing infections and symptomatic illness. The observation coincided with the ending of social distancing requirements and the spread of a new Delta variant.

The vaccine effectiveness of preventing infection and symptomatic disease fell to 64% since June 6, the Health Ministry said, Reuters reported. The good news is the vaccine was 93% effective in preventing serious illness from the coronavirus, including hospitalizations.
