Whoa. Look at this screen shot from Monday's numbers, and compared to other Monday's after a weekend. SURGE! And folks STILL TO this day do not understand exponential growth as to the leading indicators. <modsnip> when will we ever learn............. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr (Not withstanding that Florida and others only release once a week for other peaks, but this one is not MOO one of those days?)

Deaths lag cases. So its seeing deaths from earlier increase in cases, since a lot of people don't die right away.

right, but don't the number of deaths in both the last two weeks seem alarming???

Yes my daughter saw her now-positive friend on Saturday morning and afternoon and came to my house that evening and stayed 24 hours. I don’t think the breakthrough risk of delta with fully vaccinated people is being emphasized enough by the cdc or the news. My daughter and her friends are all fully vaxxed since April and thought they were doing the right things by the cdc recommendations. And now we have a lot of potential breakthroughs to watch in that friend group and with my own family. It’s incredibly upsetting. So it was Sat when the visit happened with the friend and Monday when the positive test was taken. It was a rapid test so my daughter is asking the friend to follow up with a pcr.
Oh my goodness! Saying a prayer for all especially the little one who isn’t vaccinated.
Did the friend have symptoms suddenly show up the next day to prompt getting a test?
Saw her friend and then came to see you the same day? The waiting has to be difficult.

131 deaths recorded in the UK today, this is the highest since mid March. A few weeks ago in early/mid June we averaged less than 10 deaths per day, even had a zero day :(

I think the CDC did not recognize the potential for Delta to break through vaccinated people to the extent it apparently is: this resulted in their advising that vaccinated people could shed their masks indoors , which resulted in basically opening up the country- so here we are-- surging Delta all over the country, but mostly in non-vaccinated areas.

I hope that you and your family will be okay ---It has to be upsetting to do all the right things and be in this situation.

This is exactly where America will likely be in 4-6 weeks. There was someone on CNN last night who said that this wave is going to continue for around 12 weeks.

The only question in regards to the UK, is whether the recent lifting of all restrictions, will result in another surge, or if the one that's just subsiding will eventually end, and all metrics will start dropping in unison. Cases seem to be coming down, I think? I suppose Dr. Campbell will be on top of it.

Covid: UK Covid cases fall for seventh day in a row

Headliner here is that cases have dropped significantly in seven days but as Cags said previously, we no longer have to test school kids which may account for a good number.

They're not in classrooms though, which is good and hopefully a lot of their social stuff will be outdoor.

Just got another call. Someone that my SO works with has been sick with Covid for a week and just passed. My SO is very very upset, understandably. After all these months and all the trying to do the safe thing....here we are again. I feel like the wind has been punched out of me. :( My SO has not seen this person during the time he was ill but it’s very upsetting.

I know most of of us here believe masks are a critical part of our stay safe plan despite vaccinations. I've heard several reports that address upgrading the masks we wear. I've ordered and received medical grade masks (Amazon). I was just at the grocery store (Dallas, TX where our numbers are higer every day). Maybe half of the people in the store were masked.

Some doctors pushing N95 masks as delta variant spreads | wcnc.com

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The mask debate is heating up again thanks to the rapid spread of the delta COVID-19 variant. Now, some doctors want to push things even further, saying your old cloth masks might not cut it.

Let's connect the dots.

Any way you look at it, the delta variant is more contagious than the initial strain of COVID-19. Evidence shows delta can travel from person to person in just seconds, and with limited contact.

Biden administration to recommend the vaccinated wear masks in areas with low vaccination rates (nbcnews.com)

Administration officials had been struggling in recent days with how to respond to a rising number of Covid-19 infections and hospitalization among those who are fully vaccinated.

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration is issuing new guidance Tuesday recommending indoor mask use in areas with high transmission rates after reviewing new data suggesting fully vaccinated individuals are not just contracting Covid-19, but could also be carrying higher levels of virus than previously understood and potentially able to infect others, according to multiple sources close to the discussion.

Administration officials still contend that fully vaccinated individuals represent a very small percentage of transmission, which is primarily occurring among unvaccinated people.

The new guidance comes after an internal debate among health officials: Whether to respond to these findings by simply informing the public about them or by recommending additional restrictions, including a return to uniform indoor mask use for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals...

Points for trying NFL
Reports: New England Patriots tight end Devin Asiasi tests positive for COVID-19
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —

A New England Patriots player has tested positive for COVID-19 despite being vaccinated, according to multiple reports.

Tight end Devin Asiasi's positive test occurred five or six days ago, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported. Asiasi's symptoms are mild and he is expected to work virtually until he recovers

NFL
Patriots' Joe Cardona says everyone in the NFL has a 'responsibility' to get COVID vaccine

Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona is calling for his fellow players along with coaches and staffers to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The NFL has taken a firm stance that will have massive implications to individual players,” Cardona said, via ProFootballFocus’ Doug Kyed. “Ensuring every single player in the league is afforded the opportunity to earn every paycheck for which they are eligible is extremely important. As athletes, our time horizon for earning income is already volatile enough with factors we can control, let alone this new policy.

“That being said, any member of an NFL locker room has a duty to keep teammates, coaches, support staff and fans safe and healthy. That responsibility should be an impactful incentive all on its own to encourage everyone to get vaccinated, irregardless of financial consequences.”

NFL teams face potential forfeits for COVID-19 outbreaks
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell warned the 32 teams Thursday in a memo obtained by The Associated Press that no games would be rescheduled under such circumstances. Instead, forfeits could happen.

Number of NFL players in vaccination process up to 80 percent
The number of NFL players in the COVID-19 vaccination process has reached 80%, with nine teams having 90% or more of their players in that category.

Dr. Allen Sills, the league’s medical director, said Friday that nearly all Tier 1 and Tier 2 team employees — those who deal directly with players — have been vaccinated. Five teams are at less than 70% of players who have either received one vaccination shot or both. He is optimistic the number of vaccinated players will continue to rise as training camps open.

“I think we are off to an excellent start,” Sills said. “Those numbers are much higher than what we’re seeing in society as a whole.”

Oh no, that's terrible. Do you know if the coworker was vaccinated?

New face mask guidance from the CDC recommends vaccinated people wear masks indoors in certain areas - CNN
To prevent further spread of the Delta variant, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its mask guidance on Tuesday to recommend that fully vaccinated people wear masks indoors when in areas with “substantial” and “high” transmission of Covid-19, which includes nearly two-thirds of all US counties.

New unpublished data showing that vaccinated people infected with the Delta coronavirus variant can have as much virus as those who are unvaccinated is the primary driver for the CDC’s latest mask guidance change, a source involved with the decision process told CNN. Overall, vaccinated people still play a small role in transmission and breakthrough infections are rare.

In addition, the source noted two other factors that led to this decision: the prevalence of the Delta variant and low vaccine uptake.

Florida responds to doctor calling for COVID State of Emergency | firstcoastnews.com

hospital rooms and icu are filling quickly--the ramp-up in the cases is a big issue..... hospitalizations went up more slowly at peak in summer of 2020....

the "state of emergency" requested would allow for additional federal assistance to the caseload.
I do keep holding my breath hoping he will sneak in some good things.....

It is just so uncomfortable knowing that Florida is run by politics before anything else...
