geeez...

This is typical Daily Mail, right?????

'At this time we're not aware of any cases connected to the Obama party,' Tisbury health agent and boards of health spokesperson Maura Valley told DailyMail.com. 'It's a little too early and the only way we're going to know is through comprehensive contact tracing.'

From what I read in a more reputable source, most attendees were vaccinated, they were all required to have a negative covid test prior to the party, masks were available for all, 3/5 of the invitees were uninvited to reduce the numbers, and the party was held outside on their 20 acre property.

(Which is in stark comparison to the rallies that are currently being held by another former notable, where people receive the ticket they paid for, then see the disclaimer on the back that basically says "If you catch covid, don't blame us".)

"He had also hired a “Covid coordinator,” or compliance officer, to ensure the safety of guests."

I don't believe this. Everyone I know with advanced degrees have been vaccinated.

I clicked on the link and the tweet doesn't seem to be there any more.
It is just some blogger...

Of any group, I would expect this group to be the least susceptible to conspiracy theories and among the most able to research and find the facts.

Maybe not...

People with PhDs Least Likely to Get the Covid Vaccine – Investment Watch

I can't say I like the presentation of the article. "Gene therapy"? I always thought that was like treatments for conditions where the body doesn't make the 'healthy' gene and so they have gene therapy to help the body produce that gene?

That isn't what the vaccine is doing, so I don't understand the use of the term?

One of the groups that used to be the heaviest smokers was doctors... And not all PhD's are in medical sciences. So we should be careful of what we read into studies like this.

Delete because it's too depressing now that I have had more time to think about it. File won't delete.

I never heard that... do you have links?
I had zero reaction to second dose of Moderna, but my son was so ill.... had to go to the ER multiple times.
I personally felt as if I had a bit of an adrenalin rush after the second shot....

Here is the link with this info:
"Each dose of Pfizer contains 10 micrograms of vaccine. Moderna went with a much larger dose of vaccine, 100 micrograms. It means the company is using a little more than three times as much vaccine per person as Pfizer is, and yet they aren't getting better
results."

Comparing three Covid-19 vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna, J&J

This article was posted in Feb 2021- I am wondering if the larger dose of Moderna is in fact making a positive difference with Delta. I heard maybe it is, but I have not found documentation for that. It is something to think about though

Detroit Free Press

This is a great article- I hope it is not behind a paywall since I do subscribe to the Free Press. If you don't read any other article you should read this one. It really goes into depth about the confusing messages we have been getting during the pandemic, from leadership and scientists. One thing I agree with wholeheartedly is that I think the people from CDC and others, including Fauci should have said from the beginning: there are lots of things we don't know: For example when they suggested at the beginning of the pandemic we did not need masks, they should have qualified that with what their reasoning was and how, this being a novel virus, recommendations were subject to change as they learned more information. So often they make suggestions that flop (for example in May suggesting that vaccinated people should stop wearing masks.). They should have recognized that Delta was on the horizon and could be a game changer. Anyway, it is a very informative article.

Virus claims more young victims as deaths climb yet again

The COVID-19 death toll has started soaring again as the delta variant tears through the nation's unvaccinated population and fills up hospitals with patients, many of whom are younger than during earlier phases of the pandemic.

The U.S. is now averaging about 650 deaths a day, increasing more than 80 percent from two weeks ago and going past the 600 mark on Saturday for the first time in three months.

This is why I got the vaccine the other day.

US border agents in Tennessee have seized thousands of counterfeit Covid-19 vaccination cards - CNN

“US Customs and Border Protection officers in Memphis, Tennessee, have seized thousands of fake Covid-19 vaccination cards so far this year.

"Every night" officers are seizing shipments from Shenzhen, China, headed to New Orleans, Louisiana, containing dozens of blank counterfeit vaccination cards, CBP said in a press releaseFriday.

The cards have spaces where the recipient can write their name, birth date and vaccine information. The cards also come with a US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention logo on the top.

"However, there were typos, unfinished words, and some of the Spanish verbiage on the back was misspelled," CBP said. "How else did they [CBP officers] know it was counterfeit? It was imported by a non-CDC or medical entity, and this was not the first time they had seen this shipper."

“So far, Memphis CBPO have seized 121 packages containing 3,017 cards, according to CBP.

"These vaccinations are free and available everywhere," Area Port Director of Memphis Michael Neipert said in the release. "If you do not wish to receive a vaccine, that is your decision. But don't order a counterfeit, waste my officer's time, break the law, and misrepresent yourself."

“Forging the cards is a federal crime, punishable by a fine and up to five years in prison for forging government seals found on the card.”

From what I remember, early on I kept reading that masks needed saving for those in healthcare. There were massive shortages of masks for healthcare. And that is one reason why they were not encouraging people to go out and buy those masks to wear in everyday life situations, but keep them for healthcare, and if you were nursing someone at home who had tested positive, then to use one when you go into the sick person's room.

Then we started getting all the cloth masks appearing in stores, and that coincided with the messaging change that we should use 'face coverings'.

So the Fauci thing isn't a big issue for me for the reasons you've said and for the way I actually remember things being with masks.

The problem as I see it was that Fauci and the surgeon general didn't tell the citizens why they shouldn't wear masks- they didn't say there was a shortage of masks for healthcare: instead they said we didn't need them and Dr. Adams actually said they were not effective. That is what I recall anyway.

Get the vaccine or get fired? In Shenandoah Valley, some nurses choose termination.

They were hard to miss on the corner of a busy four-way intersection at the entrance to Winchester Medical Center: a group of about 20 people - many of them nurses, some in scrubs - protesting the hospital's recent coronavirus vaccine mandate.

Some were on a quasi-strike, skipping a day of work to stand on the side of the road in scorching heat, holding signs that demanded, "NO FORCED VACCINATION."

ME:

In hospital 4 days and all the many hospital personnel in and out of my room including the PT and food service and cleaning lady and the receptionist on the way in,
were vaccinated.

I wasn't, and this is very recent. I did not get Covid.

Boy am I glad everyone working in the hospital had to get vaccinated.

Man Stabbed During Dueling Demonstrations in LA Over Vaccine Mandates

One man was stabbed Saturday during dueling demonstrations in downtown Los Angeles over the contentious issue of mandatory vaccinations against the coronavirus, according to Los Angeles police.
...
A "choose freedom march" began at 2 p.m. at City Hall to protest what organizers call "medical tyranny, mandatory vaccinations and vaccine passports."

One hour earlier, an opposing group staged a counter-protest at the same location that organizers are calling "no safe space for fascists."

When passengers are out of control, flight attendants reach for a last resort: Duct tape

Recent uses of duct tape come amid an unprecedented increase in disruptive passenger behavior this year, including altercations where members of the flying public assaulted flight attendants and each other. The FAA said earlier this week that it had received 3,810 reports of unruly passengers and kicked off 655 investigations since the beginning of the year.

When flight attendants used duct tape to keep an unruly woman in her seat during an American Airlines flight last month, the solution seemed surprising to many.

Then it happened again weeks later, when tape was used to restrain a man who allegedly groped and punched flight attendants on a Frontier Airlines flights. Even more recently, passenger video on a plane showed an American Airlines cabin crew member with duct tape during an incident with a young passenger, though restraint cuffs were ultimately used.

Delta variant triggers ‘dramatic spike’ in cases, Texas hospitals ‘are sounding the alarm’: physician

As the highly transmissible Delta variant spreads, Texas currently accounts for nearly 15% of the country’s COVID-19 hospitalizations. A surge in patients has pushed some hospital systems to their limits, with several quickly running out of ICU beds.

“Hospitals across Texas are sounding the alarm in ways we have not seen in the other surges,” Dr. Sara Andrabi told Yahoo Finance Live. “There are more than 10,000 people hospitalized with COVID-19, and that's a quick and dramatic spike.”

In the UK I distinctly remember it being said that they were needed for healthcare more than for general use at that time. Especially in the earlier days when there were very few wild cases and most of the headlines were about a small, but increasing, number of cases.

It was impossible to get the 'medical style' masks or the dust masks from hardware stores, yet there weren't all that many cases in the wild then..maybe there were more than we knew about though as not everyone got tested during the first wave.

I don't recall it being said over here that they weren't effective, I just remember people wanting any edge they could get against the virus and asking why masks weren't being recommended for everyone to wear. But there were terrible difficulties even getting them for the NHS in the UK back then. And then there were people sitting on trains and not even wearing them properly, touching the outside of them and all that sort of thing, and so there were queries on whether they should be recommended for general use if not enough people were strict enough and knowledgeable enough in how to use them to the greatest effect and not do things like touch the mask and then shake someone's hand.

Funny you should mention docs being smokers: When I was a risk manager at a large hospital I had to interview docs all the time -- I started this in the 80's-- Let me tell you, as I was talking to docs about a case they were blowing smoke rings in my face- and believe it or not, smoking was allowed on the units- of course this practice did change but it took a long time --- lots of medical professionals were smoking including respiratory therapists who, in the 90's, went outside the hospital to smoke!!!

Just MOO, I do not consider a huge tent in the garden to be "outside". It is definitely enclosed. There was also a large amount of servants, valets, florists and more gathered at this event to take care of the guests.
Who knows if all of them were vaccinated?
To me, if you're attending a large indoor event, you're making a choice to expose yourself to Covid. No matter who your host is.

From what I read in a more reputable source, most attendees were vaccinated, they were all required to have a negative covid test prior to the party, masks were available for all, 3/5 of the invitees were uninvited to reduce the numbers, and the party was held outside on their 20 acre property.

Here is an article referencing Surgeon General reversing what he said when the pandemic began: that mask were not effective

Fact check: Ex-Surgeon General Jerome Adams reversed position on masks
